Just looking through the recent winners, and the one thing that struck me was that none of them have been very good when tried at the Chasing game,
Made in Japan, penzance,Katchit,Celestial Halo,Zaynar,Soldatino,Zaynar remains to be seen, but ill be amazed if he ever makes a Chaser, ive only mentioned the ones since 2005 simply because thats when i got into racing properly plus i was only a kid back then Excited
Maybe someone out there will be able to tell me the last Triumph winner who went on to make a successful chaser,
and is there any specific reason why more Triumph winners dont make the transition from good hurdler to good chaser?

Nearly all Triumph winners are flat bred.

Paddys Return ran in the National and caused havoc when Red Marauder won it. Looked like McCoy was going well on Blowing Wind and was stopped dead by him.

There haven't been many but First Bout was a decent novice chaser in his day, and he was beaten favourite in The Arkle (possibly odds-on?) the season after.

Upgrade & Katarino (won over Aintree fences) had a degree of success chasing too, but never really at the top level.

From memory, I'm struggling to think of a decent chaser that was an also ran in The Triumph, and I can only think of Poquelin (because I backed it) & Well Chief.

I suppose Fair Along would be another, and though he never really had the physique for chasing, he's done OK.

The last two named were both runners-up.

seem to recall Baron Blakeney did quite well went sent novice chasing?

TLU - he did indeed sir!
He won a decent race at Aintree but I can't remember if it was a handicap or one of the top novice races.

TLU - it was bugging me that much, I went and checked it out...he won the 3M 1f novice chase at Aintree beating West Tip, Donegal Prince & Forgive 'N Forget.

I'd say that well qualifies him Wink

Cheers Hugh.  I remembered he did something and I did briefly think it might have been Aintree but the details eluded my poor addled brain.

Sam Winner may prove to be a decent Chaser in time, but he's fell twice already this season and subsequently injured himself,
Ruby and Nicholls have always said he'll make a decent Chaser.time will tell

Well Chief short head 2nd in Triumph hurdle

missed Hugh Mongous mentioning, but think Well Chief the highest class chaser in recent memory anyway

Seeing as the thread mentions horses that finished placed in the Triumph, you've all missed probably one of the best horses that was placed and then went on to be a great chaser......
1979 Triumph.
1st Pollardstown
2nd Celtic Ryde
3rd BADSWORTH BOY
