If you don't have be right in the city centre then The Myrtle Tree is a proper racing pub. When I was last there there was even a guy at the bar laying bets and offering better odds than board prices (and no he was not sitting in front of a PC)
You can easily walk it from city centre, it's a couple of miles from Temple Meads.

a couple of years back when i didn't go the Thurs and we spent a very enjoyable afternoon in The Old Fishmarket bar.
It's much more central and there is a bookie not too far away should you require one.
