At least 3 - Hasn't seen a racecourse in nearly 9 months. Hasn't been pleasing at home. Will be lightly cooked at the festival and got better with lots of racing last season.

yeah was thinking along similar lines stront ..beat roughly the same horses a few times in small fields in ireland ,then beat peddlers (possibly better over further ,oscar almost certainly better over further and 1,000stars also needs further ,decent enough performance at punchestown after but think he is vulnerable this time what with the hold ups he has had,in and against some up and comers .
One has disappeared Spirit Son, Zarkander not run this season also ,just leaves Grandouet as the only danger imo of your so called up and comers, and we know 5 year old records in Champion Hurdle not too good. Hurricane Fly wins if coming through next w-end sound end of story.
Agree to some extent with Foyle's that the main **** would be that he has been off the track for over 9 months. However the noises have been much more positive from Mullins recently. I can't have the champion field being much better than last year's especially with Zarkander, 3rd spot ante-post without a run. Thought Peddler's cross was a very fair second last year and was a shame they decided to go chasing as I was not one who was convinced he needed further.
Anwyay back to HF, on the rating's he has got a fair amount in hand, if he looks like anything like the horse who hammered a high class field in the Radobank or Cheltenham last year then he will be incredibly difficult to beat. How many horses in the CH field are going to be able to post a 170+ figure.

Well the question will be anwered on Sunday,THE FLY really cant be beat if his right thats why mr mullins is taking no chances in his prep this year..
3/1 to win on Sunday and CH with PP, for those who want to take a leap of faith !
If HF can beat Unaccompanied giving her 9lbs on Sunday, he will win the CH. Biggest challenges will be the aforementioned mare, Binocular and Rock on Ruby IMO. I don't see Big Zeb in the shake up.

not for me, ive just lumped on binocular at 12\1 on here, fair price IMO ,still each to their own,you pays your money and takes your chance 
For me his last 2 runs were easily his best and both were run on Good ground. If it rains a lot in the
run up to the Tuesday and becomes testing plus if a decent pace looks likely, I think he's vulnernable.
The horse I would oppose him with under these conditions is Oscar Whisky. The chances are these conditions won't arise but if they do and Oscar Whiskey takes part I'll be ready.

It is all about opinions but seeing as he beat Solwhit reasonably comfortably over two and a half on soft ground in last years Hatton I don't think soft ground or lack of stamina will find the horse out. If it came up genuinely good and he bounced back to his best then Binocular may give him a run for his money in my view.
In the Hattons Grace they went no great gallop and it turned into a bit of a sprint finish and HF did them

Bino will need all the 'treatments' his trainer can think of to win another CH. 2010 CH was rubbish - Khyber Kim 2nd, Zaynar 3rd and 1st & 2nd favs didn't give their running !
Yes 2010 Ch Hur was rubbish. Apart from Celestial Halos wins this year the other runners hardly won a hurdle race between them
Fair points but I have rarely seen a champion hurdle winner still pulling for his head going to two out. I also remember him destroying Celestial Halo at Ascot.
^ That Ascot performance was something else, I agree, but it was a long time ago now.
I still rate him very highly and feel his talent means he should never be sent off at 12-1 in any race. The thing with him is that he clearly has a few issues in terms of health and while this makes it unlikely that he'll be truly 100% again, it also means he could theoretically reach those heights if things do magically fall into place in terms of his physiology. It's not like he is gone at the game or ever had a serious injury that has left its mark.
For that reason he is a dangerous one to lay at big prices. I for one would love to see him win another Champion.

Not being party to his history with niggles and other troubles but I have always felt the horse is more straight forward than he is made out to be. He needs certain clearly defined criteria to be met to show his absolute best. He needs a searching gallop, decent ground and a stiff two miles. He doesn't usually get all these conditions but lets not forget he has a damned fine record at the festival and not always with ideal ground conditions.

I had a speculative bet on Overturn before his last 2 defeats but still think he might be a big factor if he benefits from a break and gets good fast ground. Can't see Hurricane Fly getting beaten if he is within 5lb of last years run though.
Tinkler - my view is that HF's last 2 runs were his best because he improved for a lot of racing last season, not because he is improving per se. I guess we'll see on Sunday!
As for Bino, he was magnificent in the Jan 2011 running of the Christmas Hurdle but I've been very disappointed with him since. He doesn't look the same horse.

Hurricane Fly has always shown such natural ability that I would believe Mullins. Don't forget he turned up at Punchestown the year before last and impressively beat a decent field having not run for 5 or 6 months
As I said, "I guess we'll see on Sunday". You could well be right, but I see no reason why I should take it for granted.
What is interesting is that Mullins says that it is more a case of stopping HF from doing too much at home rather than getting the work into him. That would suggest to me that once he turns up in one piece he'd take beating......as you say time will tell

Hurricane Fly will be evs - 4/5 the morning of the race imo, when hills/lads/365 get into a price war for extra publicity on the first banker of the festival!
So hold off backing him now imo!

Evens on the day would look very large to me. One of the opposition would have to be nearly as good as
Istabraq to have a chance to beat him, possible as one or 2 are still relatively unexposed ,but unlikely.

This an awesome animal, begs the question how good is Peddlars Cross ? who made this lads pull out all the stops in the Champion and was the only one anywhere near him ?
He was awesome alright Strontium, just hope he makes it to CH in one piece now !! Zarkandar & Grandouet need to find an awful lot to trouble what must be the best hurdler since Istabraq....
Markphisto - best 2m hurdler since Istabraq definitely, Big Bucks I think could retire the best hurdler of all time.

They always saw PC as a chaser so would be surprised if they went back hurdling yet, particularily after that performance from The Fly today ! Have to forgive him his last run IMO and remains a horse of huge potential. Would love to see HF take on BB over 2 1/2M at Aintree. Can't see it happening but think The Fly would murder him !!

Not sure about that CCM. BB does indeed have bags of stamina but he also has both great cruising speed and tactical speed. I'd back him to beat HF over 2 1/2 miles and I'd back him to beat most (maybe all) the top flat horses over that trip as well. I'd love to see him in the Ascot Gold Cup this summer.

Ascot Gold Cup - could probably have been won by a bunch of NH horses over the years, the problem is training horses for the race when their natural work season would be Sept to April, keeping a horse on the go until June would mean bypassing Autumn and effectively starting the season in Jan/Feb at a guess...

However, in his book he says an ambition is to train a 2 year old winner and I believe he also wants to train horses for his daughter to ride on the flat - so that could be why he got the flat licence.

Yes, true horse, but it would be an option for BB of he breaks the record at Chelt and Aintree. I can't really see it happening though.
On a similar theme, many of the big Frence races are in summer and the prize money is so huge I wonder why more UK owners/trainers don't try for them. Well I do, it's the absolute dominance of Cheltenham, but it's a shame.

Of course Rite of Passage did win the AGC a couple of years ago after placing in the Neptune.
big bucks always does just enough and seems to have plenty left in the locker a good few times he has looked as though he will struggle and then he just cruises up and puts the race to bed ,so wouldnt be sure hurricane fly would beat him .

It'd be certainly be interesting if Big Bucks and Hurricane Fly met over 2m4f. I'd back the Fly if that happened I reckon. At evens I don't think he's an antepost bet yet, given his failure to make the festival twice. However, if I can get that price on the day, I reckon I'll be having my biggest bet ever. Surely he can't be beat.
Rite of Passage did win it but he was a duel code horse anyway I think, he certainly won a Nov h'cap and I'm sure ran Fame and Glory quite close last Summer...
RoP started in bumpers, was fav for the Cheltenham bumper but ran below form, then switched to the flat storming home in a fast time in the Irish Nov Hcp, before his brief hurdles career, then going on to glory at Ascot.
Dunguib went by RoP in the Chelt bumper like RoP was a selling plater. WM said he did not want to run HF on the flat as it would buzz him up too much. There is not a chance in hell of getting evens on 13th March although the bookies are great at buzzing something up to get money on them against the hot-pots like in the case of Big Bucks.
RoP isn't at his best at Cheltenham but also ran way, way below his subsequent flat form at Punchestown the next month. Pretty clear in retrospect that RoP wasn't the horse he was to become and Dunguib was very flattered.
i couldn't even begin to think that BB would have any chance against HF over 2 1/2....BB outstays his rivals over 3 any drop in distance must compromise his performance, over 2 1/2 HF still possesses bags of speed.
As HF has won over 2 and half,and is a Champion Hurdler,i dont think its a contest up against a staying hurdler over that distance.
Reckon Nicholls and co would know that anyway.

Was a phenomenal performance and worth waiting half a season for. The horse just ate up the ground coming to two out and has demolished a grade 1 field. Grandouet and Zarkander are going to have to be rated 173+ for them to win at Cheltenham and I can't see it myself. Think HF will have 10 pounds in hand on the big day. Jumping was excellent as usual. Bring on 13th March.
