I have backed this at big prices (unfortunately). It has been campaigned over a GDP that it patently doesn't stay. Is this being plotted for a handicap over 2 miles. Seems to have run ok until around this distance and would not surprise me if it had also learned to jump come March.
Yes i had this same thought about this horse i mentioned this on the big thread on horse racing after its last run saying i am sick of backing this thing it is clear to me he is being raced over distances and in races that quite clearly does not suit this horse, given his form of last season, especially that race at Aintree he would have won (beating Finians) if not for the mistakes, i would be very surprised if this horse was not turning out to be a 'plot' horse in the making.
Though admittedly, he may well not be, as he is a very well known sort of horse and they may/may not be able to get away with it very easily. Although it would be interesting to see what kind of race he is entered for in the future if he goes to Aintree i think would be very interested but maybe not chelters. But so would everyone else!

Trempelino, I too had been sucked into the belief that Ghizao was destined to be a serious QMCC challenger.....I feel your angst as I can’t believe the way the horse has been campaigned.
Jumping is one problem that needs ironing out, but persistently running the horse over what is looking to be too far, time and again doesn’t look right, and isn’t something I’d associate Nicholls with.
The horse is rated 154 over the jumps and the handicapper doesn’t seem to keen to drop him, and the way he’s been running the only handicap chase for him at the festival would be the Grand Annual. Realistically if a horse is up to winning the Grand Annual off that rating then it’s not far off the pace in the QMCC. Such a competitive handicap will require a horse to beat its own rating by close on a stone.
The last time out Ruby reported a breathing problem, so hopefully Nicholls is having that rectified now so the horse is available for the Festival. Has anyone got any news on whether this is the case?
There is also the possibility that the horse could go back hurdling. It was last rated 135, and that makes a crack at the Imperial Cup/ Festival double look tempting.
I live in the hope that sense will prevail and the horse is given a crack in what is likely to be a sub-standard QMCC.

The suggestion Ghizao has been ran over further than 2 miles to work his handicap mark down is nonsense. This horse is just not worth of his rating. If he was he would have won the Haldon Gold Cup off 155, which is over an extended 2 miles.
People point to his unlucky defeat behind FR at Aintree, but FR put in a gut busting run in the Arkle and set the race up for Captain Chris. There is no doubt in my mind that left it;s mark on FR for the season so Ghizao would have been flattered to win anyway.
Ghizao may improve for Soft ground. So may be worth a chance on Soft.
