Grands Crus and Great Endeavor. Restless Harry might be open to big improvement but not with H. Oliver riding. Worst ride on a good horse I have ever seen.
|
By:
Grand Crus for me I think. Impressed with Al Ferof as well.
|
By:
RANGITOTO is a name for the future too imho
|
By:
I'm going to be unoriginal and say Grand Crus too. I was really, really taken with him. Not only his jumping, but the way he powered up the hill as if he has only just started. The second is clearly no mug either.
Wished I had backed him for the RSA before the race as I think he's too short now. But I actually thought I'd seen a future Gold Cup winner. |

Steps To Freedom
Superb ride from Robbie Power, under the present whip rules. Will be put away now 'til February, when other pretenders to the (Supreme Novices)throne will come out and impress, pushing his price out. Will punt the ar$e off him when he goes even further out when he fails to impress on his prep run, when half fit, on the AW but then Mrs Harrington will have him at concert pitch for Festival Tuesday where - acting on the course and the going - he will slam his rivals by half a dozen lengths! .....and then I wake up ![]() |

Grands Crus is the one that stands out for me. The way he landed on the 4th last would have stopped lesser horses but it didn't seem to inconvenience him at all. They appeared to genuinely be considering throwing him straight in with teh big boys next Saturday afterwards, thankfully they haven't though.
Also as per the post above I saw Boston Bob. First one in Wylie's colours I've seen run for Mullins and while I'm not sure what it beat it won without Townend moving a muscle and hurdled very well. Al Ferof looks a genuine threat to Peddlers, be interesting to see Sprinter Sacre - any news on that one? |
By:
I was also pleased to see forpady looking enthusiastic again.
I wouldn't expect Steps to Freedom to beat Prspect Wells (or perhaps Ericht) again though and he'll have to progress a lot to win a Supreme (which he isn't going to do in his box!). |
By:
Thought the same about Steps to Freedom. I didnt think I'd back him to beat Prospect Wells again.

sacre hennessey meet i think
|

fingal bay looked a good un
|
By:
I think Grands Crus was probably the best we saw but definitely got the impression that Fingal Bay would be better in a bbetter race where they could lead him down to the last and then use his turn of foot. He seemed to be travelling too well and jumped to the front much sooner than ideal.
|
By:
At about 3 out i think when fingal bay quickened and jumped past african broadway mid air was a wow moment....but grands crus. i wouldn't be surprised if he runs in the pillar or whatever its called these days and then on to the gold cup itself....not saying he'd win mind you...but if the deliberation over whether to run him against long run et al are to be believed they must be thinking along those lines.

Hard to say who would win if STF and PW meet again.
A lot seem to be saying PW would win next time, and to be honest dont know where they get that from. Possible of course, but no way of knowing with these improving novices. And at the moment STF is just the better,as proved. |
By:
Anyway, none of you have mentioned one of the best runs this weekend.

At HQ IMO -
Grands Crus Fingal Bay Hinterland Al Ferof |

Lambro at Naas. Very impressive round of jumping comfortably beating Shinrock Paddy.
Not sure if he'll be good enough for RSA Chase but will definately win more in Ireland before March |

unnacompanied?

Think you mean The Dermot Weld trained Unaccompanied, runner-up in last season’s Triumph Hurdle, who returned to hurdling with an easy win in the Listed Naas Vet Panel Supporting Racing Fishery Lane Hurdle at Naas today.
The daughter of Danehill Dancer, carrying the colours of Moyglare Stud Farm, moved to lead at the final flight before recording an easy win, under Paul Townend (recording a double in the process), over Sailors Warn. Afterwards Weld said “that was a very pleasing performance and was very professional from both Unaccompanied and Paul. She won as you would expect her to. “Where to next is not know, ill speak to her owner Eva Haefner, but she is entered in the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle and we’ll look at that. We’ll see how she comes out of this race and will also be entered up over Christmas - I thought she was impressive there and there’s lots to look forward to.” |

Nothing obviously comes to mind

The Ascot novice hurdle won by Broadbackbob from Cinders and Ashes, Dance Tempo and Ted Spread could turn out to be a very informative race. The next 2 home, Double Ross and Tindaro were also very interesting prospects.

Certain that one one or two will end up in the Supreme imho

Oh and have a look at the CORBALLY GHOST race (side by side if you can)

Apart from KS (& LR) was anyone taken by GRANDOUET for Henderson as a Champion Hurdler
- 25's into 14's now - (another Katchit perhaps) GRANDOUET continued Nicky Henderson's scintillating run of form, as the hurdler made it six winners from the trainer's last seven runners following his five-timer on Friday. The 8-13 favourite travelled smoothly throughout under Tony McCoy, dispatching his four rivals with ease as Marsh Warbler finished second eight lengths adrift. Bookmakers reacted to an emphatic performance, on a course that played to his strength of speed, by making Grandouet a general 14-1 chance for the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. McCoy had settled Grandouet at the rear of the five-strong field throughout and started to get closer from three out, as No Planning gave way rounding the final turn. Domtaline was now in the lead but, between the last two flights, McCoy moved serenely past on the favourite and quickly put the race to bed. Second eventually went to Marsh Warbler, who battled back to repass Domtaline who tired in the straight. The Christmas Hurdle at Kempton was mentioned as the next target for Grandouet, but Henderson appeared to be leaning towards the Bula at Cheltenham. He said: "You'd have to say the race was run to suit him. It's now going to get harder for him. "He's a horse with a very good attitude, who jumps well and has a very good turn of foot. I suppose you'd have to look at taking him back to Cheltenham for the Bula Hurdle." |

Was there a more impressive performance than that of Dynaste this weekend?? If there was i never saw it.
|
By:
grandeuot....going to the top on a flat track.
|
By:
Great Endeavour in the Hennessy.
Whether the race came too soon or if he doesn't quite get 3 1/4 miles, how easy was he travelling two out? Back at Cheltenham, where he is pounds better, off a decent break, the 3m handicap chase (the old Billy Hill Chase) on the opening day of the festival looks very interesting. |
By:
I was at Newbury this weekend and for me it has to be Prospect Wells - travels like silk and takes his hurdles like Big Buck's/Binocular. Very classy.
I also think Bob's Worth could become a serious chaser over 3m+. |
By:
Surely Great Endeavour would be weighted to the hilt in the WH chase where traditionaly big weights dont win. Bensalem the first winner to carry over 11st (only 2lb over) in the last dozen years.
|
By:
Ryanair for Great E imo.
|
By:
^I agree. And PP/Boylesparts winners have a pretty good recrod in the Ryanair (although it is moving towards geniune Grade 1 horses).
|
By:
Not this year, race will be too hot for him imo
|
By:
Sure Mister W - the stats would probably be all against him in that respect.
I just thought, immediate post race - that he didn't get the 3.25 miles but was bang there, with nothing travelling better, at 3. Given his record at Cheltenham (if he went there fresh for the festival) I thought he looked well-handicapped for the Wm Hill. |
By:
Overturn for me. Surely the best 2 mile hurdler in England now having overcome the apparent unsuitable testing ground to beat Binocular comfortably and Celestial Halo out of sight. Only Hurrican Run can be a danger now if he stays in this form. No wonder they went chasing with Peddlers Cross, Overturn may be the better hurdler.
|
By:
Binocular needed the run.
Overturn is an admirable horse but i think that later on in the season we will see Spirit Son and Zarkander in front of him, possibly Grandouet also, and so would OW if they choose to go 2m with him. |
By:
Overturn is what he is... found out by fit group1 horses
|

To Summarise - those mentioned so far..........
