Looked to have an engine. Put in a couple of sloppy jumps the last two fences, but was taken with the ease of his victory against a useful sort.

I agree. I thought he looked lethal. It would be hard to do that from the front against genuine Grade 1 horses, but he was taking lengths at each fence, and that would be hard to match from behind.

He reminded me a little of Jair Du Cochet (not in appearance) - classy, gears, travelled great, jumped great, seriously impressive, precocious horse. Looks a player at Kempton surely.

Not sure what the official description was of the going, but it looked testing to me, better ground may imprpve him, but may not.

Jumping will need to improve to be true top nitch... but the engine was there... much like the real Kauto

what's festival target? I presume he's going there

Owner's rep is quoted on Sportinglife website -

"I think in the future he will get three miles, but I'm not sure we want to start putting him over three miles now. He's still got plenty of toe for two and a half.

"I'd certainly envisage him ending up over three miles, but at this stage of his career, I'm not sure we need to start thinking of the three-mile options just yet

"We will certainly give him entries for the King George and obviously the Gold Cup but I think it might be a year too soon for those sorts of races, but you never know.

"The John Durkan will come under serious consideration and the Peterborough Chase will as well''

Nicholls stable tour in RP today:

As Kauto Stars half brother he's obviously an exciting addition to the team. He's not as big or scopy as Kauot Star but theres no doubting his ability, and his victory in the grade  novice chase at Auteuil last november made him officially Frances leading four year old chaser. He delighted me when making a winning reappearance in the grade 2 at down roral on saturday - a race which I've always considered to be an ideal starting point for second season chasers. Well look at the John Durkan next and he'll have a King George entry, but we need to look after him and not aim too high, as that will pay dividends further down the road. Theres plenty of time to take on the big boys. The Ryan Air is an obvious target in the spring.

i was very impressed with this fellow,made all and never looked like been caught,absolutely glided over that ground,and by all reports he needs soft ground,but we will soon see if thats the case,no doubt hes an exciting prospect and i look forward to see how he progresses through out the season

Problem is you'll never get value on this horse wherever he runs because of his relation...

Cant believe Clive Smith didnt purchase this horse,given the success he's had with Kauto

yer right there DWM,a horse with Kauto as his first name,brother to Kauto Star and trained by Nicholls is always going to be shorter price than he should be.

Half brother, Kauto Stone is a full brother to kauto Relko and Kauto The Roc.

Kauto Star was sired by Village Star - whose stamina index is 6.3. Another reason why Kauto Star is such a remarkable animal.

Here lies another problem...the expectation for him to be a replacement. Brother, half brother, sister, cousin, aunt, whatever...he's not going to be another Kauto Star. Sorry chaps, we won't see the likes of him and Denman again!

I was hoping there'd be a reverse gelding op on Kauto and he'd be the new Ruby des Champs.

I put kauto stone in as a banker this year in the TTF. I just hope Nicholls places him to win!

Anyone know if he's a likley runner in the King George?

I dont think so strontium.

In my opinion he should run, but doubt Nicholls will.
