Rooster Booster was a great memory for me backed him to win a good few quid great day. Best for me though was Quevega last year had had a good first day and put all me profit on her I couldnt believe the price i had her a 2's on shot. The feeling of her cantering towards the last and then nearly falling, think me heart was still pounding an hour after the race.

Already been mentioned on here, but after Harchibald et al in the champion hurdle I remember phoning my Dad to tell him about "The best race I've ever seen..." TBH, I think I might have started drinking early that day though!

I was there that day when Masterminded won Roger, it was barely believable. I watched the race back when I got home and it contains one of my all time favourite lines of commentary as the horse just keeps pulling further and further clear down the straight, ".....and masterminded is making voy por ustedes look ordinary...." then indignantly "...AND HE'S NOT ORDINARY!!". Of course it turns out that VPU was fairly ordinary
Since you've introduced flatties to the thread, i'll bore you all with my favourite ever line from commentary, it's from Arazis breeders cup romp. The Yank commentator has no sooner rather dismissively stated that the 'european superstar' is 11 lengths down, than he starts picking them off. The commentator notices and states that Arazi is coming to the leader with a menacing run, as Arazi breezes by the toiling leader, hard on the steel, the commentator can't believe his eyes and shrieks astonished, "Arazi runs right by him.". Brilliant. Maybe I should start a thread.......

Dessie winning the CGC is of course the single most spine tingling festival moment, btw.

A surprising one that comes to mind for me is the Foxhunters' of all races back in 2007. I was standing in the main grandstand, packed of course, and it seemed everyone had unloaded their winnings into the previous year's winner, Whyso Mayo. Katchit had won the Triumph (well fancied), Wichita Lineman (many people's banker of the meeting) had won the 3-mile novice, and the mighty Kauto Star had just won the Gold Cup. The bookies had taken a hammering and Whyso Mayo was smashed to 2-1 in a big field.

Perhaps it was a combination of people playing up their winnings and the relief of having just seen Kauto get the job done in the Gold Cup, but the stands shook as the commentator revved them all up as the jolly swung for home and looked set to claim Drombeag. I remember the line - "And now here comes Why...So...May...oooo" - the place just went bananas. Sadly for all those players, Drombeag pulled out more and won by half a length, but the roar as they turned in was incredible.

Really makes me wish either Hoiles or Holt would be given course commentary duties, Cattermole the last couple of years if I'm not mistaken, not a patch on the first two
