Any thoughts ..16/1 with lads and hasnt jumped a twig IN PUBLIC ? this horse has loads of potential heres hopeing GAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNN MINSKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Typical Dalakhani, they dont jump, this horse will improve but not in time for the Triumph....Shadow Catcher is now well overpriced, another positive bulletin from Elliott in the week. A strong traveller who needs to be delivered late and has more natural foot than any horse in the race. Grumetti and Pearl Swan are now the only dangers. Have a feeling Baby Mix may down tools in a big field

Wouldnt disagree Onthesnaff....but do you think the ground is key, only raced on soft or heavy and hes out of a Kadalko mare, surely soft ground and furtherwould be in his favour...but yes, hes got to come in to calculations

cant have Baby Mix? WTF not? Won at Cheltenham and won the best trial - got every fcking chance and certainly more than Balder Success who has won egg and spoon races

Never mind Cammy,it does not always go to plan,we went for a touch a big odds and it has not worked out, thats racing.Would have liked him to have been given a more positive ride but he had his chance, will improve but time against him for cheltenham.Well back to the grindstone and the battle with the old enemy, best of luck for the future Cammy.

judo, calm down,He's already proven he can throw in a shocker, looks a bit of a bridle ponce, will chuck it in when under pressure. btw when was the last time a maiden won the Triumph?

SJ,i think you are right mate, thats the 2 against the field imo. Think Sadlers will be a big player if he can settle better, but he will have to. Grumeti most likely winner imo

Was surprised to hear Nevison really crabbing the Grumeti win at Cheltenham. I like him, does everything well. Sadlers I could see him turning round the Baby Mix result as you say with settling better, off a stronger pace, and think he will be staying really strongly up the hill

Grumeti was giving weight iirc, hurdled badly for the first half of the race after his heavy fall at Newbury, tried to jump the horse walk, got barged in to on the run-in and didn't have Choc.
Pearl might be expected to improve for the run, but I'd fancy Grumeti to uphold the form (not by much though).

That's a matter of opinion. In any case, the question was about why Grumeti is shorter in the market than Pearl Swan and jockeys might be a factor for some people.

Cannot agree with those who think Sadler's Risk will reverse form with Baby Mix.
I do admit to having an interest in BM, but today he was a target for virtually the whole straight and SR couldn't go by an to my eye was well on top at the line.
Unluck cammy and those who were on at 16s. Cannot help having a wry smile thinking about those who joined in based purely on hype at lower prices especially single figures

I cant see beyond saddlers risk at the moment, course didn't suit today and Cheltenham will. The break neck speed of the triumph will be a big plus and help it settle.
I can't help think of the defeat of menorah in his prep race before the supreme. 2 weeks to go and time for the stable to come out of its dip.
GL all.

I cant believe people have lost faith in minsk if you ever want a schooling session on ground i dont think he appreciated the jockey i should imagine was told not to give him a hard race on bad ground 2 WEEKS BEFORE FESTIVAL obviously tried to just pinch it and fekked up ........he is still going to the triumph ask yourself WHY? I have still seen nothing to make me think Grumeti won't win.
Tough, stays well, has pace, won over course and distance. Rock solid and still looks like he has improvement ahead. Looks a real National Hunt type, not one of these flashy bridle pansies.

Im with you Henry, very slow pace, horrible ground, there is still hope.I think Minsk is a lot better than he showed today,my money is down on him a big prices, gone in again each-way,maybe foolish but just a gut feeling we will see a different horse at Cheltenham.

I wonder if anyone could help me, Balder Succes is trained by the same trainer as Grumeti, why would he not consider running this horse in the Supreme, I was very impressed by him last time out.

Those were the excuses used for Dildar before. Minsk just isn't anywhere near good enough. Infact there's no point in him going, and i'm not even sure he will.

Ginger, the Supreme looks the obvious race for Balder S. French bred 4yos done well before in the race getting weight and better chance of a bit of give in the ground on day 1, faster ground is an unknown for him.

judo, the "egg and spoon" race Balder Succes won at Ascot being the same class 2 race that Menorah was 2nd in before winning the Supreme and which was won last year by the horse that finished 3rd in the Supreme, whose name escapes me.

I'm with judorick here. Baby Mix should be clear favourite for the Triumph. He comfortably beat Sadlers Risk giving 3lb (the rest nowhere), we know he acts round Cheltenham, and the stronger pace of the Triumph will help him settle. 7/1 is a gift imo.

ok,fair enough, but clear fav?i think the same re sadlers risk's run yesterday to be honest, green as well still, much more to come from him i feel, although whether its in time for March is open to question. I hope so.

Former JCB Triumph Hurdle favourite Minsk will miss Cheltenham after he was found to have an infection when beaten on his jumping debut at Fairyhouse on Saturday.
As a result, trainer Dessie Hughes and owner Barry Connell have decided to pull the plug on Minsk's hurdling programme for this season.
The four-year-old will probably not run again until towards the end of the Flat season, when he will return to the John Oxx stable, for whom he won the Irish Cesarewitch in impressive fashion last autumn.
The four-year-old will then go back to Hughes to resume his career as a novice over hurdles.
"He was a bit disappointing so we had him scoped when we got home and found he has an inflamed throat. It's the start of an infection," said Hughes.
"His lungs were clean, but he's starting to get a cold and the vet said there's no way he could finish the race with that.
"We had scoped him on Wednesday after work and he scoped clean. It's a tough old game.
"He can't go to Cheltenham now. He has to go on antibiotics and it will take a good two weeks to clear it up.
"There's no way he can get to the Triumph Hurdle, unfortunately. I'd say we'd leave him now and keep him as a novice for next season.
"I'd say he'd go back and run on the Flat in the autumn in a couple of races and then go hurdling.
"The owner has made up his mind and that makes sense to me."
Minsk had been at the top of the Triumph betting at around 6-1 before he had jumped a hurdle in public on the strength of his good Flat form and reports of his excellent schooling at home.
However, he was surprisingly beaten on his eagerly-awaited debut, albeit by a neck, by Burrenbridge Lodge.
But Hughes felt Minsk would have won had he jumped the final flight cleaner despite being under the weather.
"If he'd have jumped the last quicker on Saturday he'd probably have won anyway," the County Kildare-based handler added.

re Baby Mix/Grumeti, I disagree that BM should be "clear favourite". Grumeti has looked very professional so far whereas Baby Mix has run two good races and one stinker. Both have decent form including course form. But to make BM clear favourite you'd have to forget his awful run and I don't see why one should. Maybe he had excuses, but maybe he has two ways of running, maybe he bounced, who knows? Grumeti slight favourite for me as he's the one who's done nothing wrong so far.

BM wasn't that hot on his only start over French hurdles either, 5th with an RPR of 113, looks like he was inconsistent on the flat too. Found Grumeti's performance much more convincing of the 2 yesterday. Time was only 2s slower in spite of a much slower early pace and he looked like he had more to give. Was giving weight to 2 hurdle newcomers who were decent on the flat, the second seemed to take well to hurdles, the older French mare that fell was a listed winner on the flat, no OR available but an RPR of 109 just last season, 8lb higher than the best RPR of Minsk and 5lb higher than Chester Vase 4th Sadlers Risk, to put it in perspective.

Thieves - re BM's French hurdles run - he was barely 3 iirc? I think the race was in March of his 3yo year. So while I take your point, I wouldn't count that as much of a negative unless he was very precocious.

All the runners were barely 3 stront and they were all making their debuts. It's what 3yo do in France. Precocious buggers Point is you would think a future Triumph winner would be able to do better than 5th with an RPR of 113...

OK, fair enough. Mind you, the horse would be pretty forward to be puttig up a good RPR in March one year and winning the Triumph the next - he's clearly improved since that first hurlde run (or there are some monsters tucked away in France)!

Do you think he bettered 130 by much yesterday Stront? Will be interesting to see the RPRs, the 3rd has 2 runs at 116 to his name but was 2 months off the course so not sure if they will use him as a yardstick?

Many thanks for your comments regarding Balder Success I appreciated your comments, theiveslikeus and maychain, I think it is a very impressive horse and should be considered if it is going to run in the Supreme dont you think.

"But Hughes felt Minsk would have won had he jumped the final flight cleaner despite being under the weather."
How could he have jumped it any cleaner? There were four feet between him and the top. First he hypes the horse then makes excuses for it. One to take on if he gets over the sore throat by next year.

Thought this horse looked the essence of novice yesterday. Its jumping under pressure was extremely poor even though it looked to be travelling much the best three out. The last jump in particular it must have lost a length or more. Doesn't look a particularly strong race with the first and third exposed. Obviously a very unlikely runner now but would have had to improve its jumping no end to figure in the triumph in any case.

It would be worth playing the horse a continuous loop of Istabraq in action during the summer and he might also benefit from a chartered surveyor's feasibility study at his next schooling session. Dessie has to think outside the box with this one.

Red and White, he hardly winged it now did he? He ballooned it and got away slow. Was a head up coming into the flight and a length down getting away from it.
