POKER DE SIVOLA, who won Sandown's Bet365 Gold Cup on the final day of last season, will not race this term after trainer Ferdy Murphy revealed that David Johnson's staying chaser is set to miss the campaign.
The eight-year-old, also successful at the 2010 Cheltenham Festival in the National Hunt Chase, was due to be targeted at the John Smith's Grand National - for which he was a best-priced 33-1 - but will now be rested after the exertions of his Sandown triumph were found to have left a mark.
Murphy said: "Horses who win either the Scottish Nationalor the Bet365 Gold Cup often seem to pick up injuries as they go a million miles an hour on fast ground in those two races. I've had that problem with Paris Pike and Hot Weld and now Poker De Sivola is in the same situation.
"We have found that he has a few little niggling issues and whenever we do anything with him a little heat materialises in his leg. I see him being a Grand National horse but we'll look after him and hold fire on that plan until next season.
