Just a bit of fun thread for people to discuss or even guess what these may be for the 2012 festival. As the season goes on we can hopefully unearth 1 or 2 "dark uns" that might be worth a tickle at tasty prices.

Cheers

Daves dream for the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase.Has an exceptional record fresh so will not be suprised if he is put away for the festival after a highly eyecatching reappearence in saturdays Paddy Power Gold Cup.After travelling into the race like a serious horse he patently failed to see out the distance(has attempted the trip on four occasions before and been beaten a total of 184 lengths in the four runs) when dropped back to the minimum i'm convinced he has a major race within him.N J Henderson lays one out for this every year i believe this could be his one for 2012

I was under the impression that Ian Williams was supposed to be a shrewd trainer.Well he has absolutely destroyed this horses handicap mark by finishing 2nd to Fingal Bay and has got a 12lb rise for doing so.He could easily have won a big handicap off of his previous mark of 125.What a ****in clown.

recession Proof will have a chance in the Coral Cup especially if the ground is on the soft side.He won the Totesport last year on his 4th start over hurdles after looking likely to win easily but not doing much when hitting the front against seasoned handicappers. He is a 2 miler on the flat and probaly needs closer to 3 miles over hurdles having already won over 2 and a half on heavy at Lingfield. We ran him in the supreme last year when he got outpaced from the top of the hill then finished best of them all only beaten 8 lenghts and would have been much closer over a furlong further.

He will reappear in a handicap in february but has had a tendon problem and should likley get beaten and keep his handicap mark for Cheltenham. if he wins in february he will probably go for the world hurdle but more likely he will still be off 146 or so and go for the Coral where he will be fancied by connections.A strong gallop sitting just off the pace will suit him very well.
Report Fabulous January 8, 2012 8:43 AM GMT
STS, that's what I was thinking when I put him up, thought he was going to wait until Cheltenham. I bet him yesterday, but nothing major.

I bet him for The Plate before the race, but I get the feeling that ain't where he'll be going now, and his price didn't change much after the race anyway.
Report dtamutants January 8, 2012 10:14 PM GMT
I'm sure that American Trilogy is being prepared for the Byrne Group Plate. He might need to win to get into the race, but he'd be running off just about bottom weight, and I think he'd have a good chance if he has a nice confidence booster first.

Pretty sure the Pipe's are d1cking about with Kazlian to get him in on a decent mark for the Fred Winter.

Think he'll have an educational run down the field somewhere next time out, a) to keep his price down b) to keep his handicap mark down and c) to sort out his jumping a bit more, then WALLOP......

Festival over and another great week of winners and great runs for money.
Having scoured this forum for months leading up to the week, it's been some effort from the folk on here.
Any mug could have spotted Sprinter as a star, or that Long Run was not the same horse as last year.
But to those who, among a long list of nuggets on this and other threads, spotted that...
The Package was a great ew shout coming back in the JLT before the gamble started.
That Simonsig was a superstar before he even stepped into Seven Barrows.
Salut Flo was being plotted us for the Plate when he was 20-1.
Divers the same at the identical price.
GMOOH would be going Coral Cup at a new ew price at that point.
That Alderwood's prep 'effort' was worth a second glance ahead of the Festival.
That Bellvano's plan was the Grand Annual and was being plotted up as such.
You could go on and with other superb little pieces of information throughout the winter for all of the races which could only have helped.
For those, for whatever reason, who cannot see the racing day-in and day-out and can't keep on top of every single thing, it's priceless.
For every simpleton who goes onto the forum and talks junk, there are two with genuine views and great advice.
I'm sure plenty of people had their coffers boosted with some of the clues.
Well done. Keep it up for 2013.

As a (relative) newbie to horse racing, how does one successfully identify a plot horse?
Report Gibberish March 19, 2012 11:21 PM GMT
Gravy - well said sir!

Some excellent suggestions on here, and I for one think it's hard enough for 'one of us' to pinpoint a target nowadays with the addition of many other handicaps, and to even get a run, and beat the on the day best prices is a big achievement!

Maybe I'm gonna have to alter my betting strategies in the future after reading this really informative thread.

I've always had an aversion for Jonjo's nags (which is idiotic as they bolt in at decent odds when the money's down) and constantly have me flapping!

As I mentioned on another thread...I noticed Alderwood's 'effort' on the day, even without a bet in the race, and I forgot about it Cry

I mentioned Bellvano on another, and as someone told me he was missing Cheltenham for Aintree (and I subsequently heard something similar too) I was surprised to see him make the line up - he reminded me very much of Andreas who bolted up in the same race a few years ago for me at 20/1, though as everyone knows...a bit more quirky.

These trainers seem to be putting us away even more than they have done over the decades, and it's only because of the media under their hooters that it's becoming increasingly evident.

Next year...I'm gonna keep a close eye on these kind of threads and I'm gonna be backing & laying as soon as the markets get under way for the handicaps.

There have been some fantastic observations on here, and considering the vast majority actually suggested the right races (as well as the results) is well worth mentioning.

It's still gonna be really difficult for me to change my spots and BACK an O'Neill nag, but I will try to keep them on my side in future, in not laying them!

I've been into this game nearly as long as Henderson's been training, and until a couple of years ago, I naively figured he was as straight as any stable Blush

He's got an impressive portfolio over the last few seasons that rivals Jonjo's for chicanery, and the evidence has become damning Angry

One again...congrats to the many who helped out with their long-range observations, and it shouldn't be overlooked that the more information we have access to nowadays, the more difficult these conundrums become.

For me...the best of the lot was Salut Flo (O'Neill's & Henderson's are telegraphed) as it's impossible for me to price up one of these runners, and I always seem to be bitten by them as a layer Cry
