Accomodation on a budget Festival 2012??

Whats your budget mate?

Best is centre of town.

You dont want to be fannying around with trains or taxis.

Budget is £200 for two nights for accomodation any recoomendations?

My house sspare room / free travel to course / breakfast included/ just keep your hands off my mrs and make yourself feel at home / oxford 38 miles away

Out of interest, how do you travel to the course Howdi? If you drive, what time do you set off from home/leave the course? I also live in Oxfordshire and I'm trying to make my travel as painless as possible this year!

i drive mate sometimes share the driving if i fancy a few beers but tend to have a few at the end of a day as racing too good to be half cut!

usually set off at 9am. Park in field opposite course for a fiver.

You can come with me if you want or share driving. You dont have to spend all day with me if you find me dull

Ive been to all encloses and go to Best Mate for one reason

Any likelihood of getting a room for Mon, Tues, and Weds for less than £200 a night anywhere? Struggling to find anything reasonable

I pay £45 a night B&B in a house in Bishops Cleeve, about 30 mins walk from the course. Been going these around 10 years now. Great breakfast too! Built up a decent relationship with the owner(s) who are happy to have me (us) back every year. We're incredibly lucky.

You are indeed! A ****g Big Sleep "hotel" wanted about £500 for 2 nights, ridiculous. If you aren't already a known guest of the landlord, is there any way, at any time of year, to book reasonably priced rooms for the Festival? Want to start doing both Tues and Weds instead of just Tues but these prices make it impossible...

Morning Joist.Depending on how many people are with you,there are apartments available to let.The cheaper ones are on Gloucester Road as they are heading that bit further out of town which i think are available for £120 a night ish.I used to stay in the premier inn but even theyve upped the ante to £140 a night now.Ive been trying to find out what pubs in the area put people up but to no avail (granted i'd expect them to be full now anyway)so if anyone knows or can help that would be much appreciated.Ta

Thanks, I'll look into those. Have emailed a variety of B&Bs in the surrounding areas too so hopefully can work something out.

Swindon is a vile dump of a place. Handy cause its only 40 mins away by train though.

Echoing Mr E's thoughts about Swindon.

You'll find somewhere to stay and it's an easy run to the course but theres little potential for fun with fellow enthusiasts in the evening.

There's always the Railway Museaum where you can get your rocks off and Swindon Town might have a home game - be still my beating heart!

Ha, cheers lads. Have now arranged accomodation at a Premier Inn in Gloucester. Much craic in Gloucester? Will be staying in Cheltenham anyway in the evenings I imagine.

joist,keep trying the premier inn because alot of times (especially nearer the festival)you can sometimes get cancellations for the ones in cheltenham

I stayed in gloucester for the last festival, beware its like a ghost town at night.

We also stayed in Gloucester two years ago, and came to the conclusion that it was the sh!t stain of the South.

Best staying out in Cheltenham and getting a taxi back, cost us about £20 I think, but can't remember 100%.

We stayed in Bristol three years ago, and going back there again this year - by far the best place for a night out imo and only 40 mins on the train.  Cheltenham was ok of a night, but everywhere is rammed with middle aged fellas; not my scene really!!

hoseasons have cottages on a 9 hole golf course at oaksey wiltshire only 30 40 mins from cheltenham, just stayed there 2 weeks ago, self catering, great big houses sleeps 6/8 approx 500 quid mon to friday,all the accomodation have hot tub as well and great club house for breakfast and meals, recommended.

not 500 each may i add    , works out at around 80 each

Can you get the HI Express for anything like a reasonable price?

No worries Joist.  Sorry banks, did have availability at Chelt HIEXP and posted on here but was snapped up a couple of months ago.  We will be staying there aswell perfect location for town and course.

ElisJohn, just looking at the HoSeasons website, how would you recommend travelling to and from the Festival each day, is it 30-40mins driving? I'd be wanting to enjoy the Guiness village you see!

well we drove, but im certain there is a train station very close to oaksey, has connections to swindon, gloucester  but not sure cheltenham, wouldnt think taxi would cost too much if theres 33 or 4 of you ,just word of warning no internet connection in cottages but its free in the clubhouse

there is station at kemble only about a mile from oaksey with conn to cheltenham, actually great pub in oaksey been told that lord oaksey used to be a regular, the lord oaksey of c4 racing

should read 3 or 4 not 33,   laugh:]

the people at the park were very helpful, and im certain if you phoned them and asked for them to arrange taxi to /from the station , or they might take you themselves

i stay in cheltenham, hire a house for a week off old work collegue, 6 of us split the £400 for the week and then its 5 pound taxi ride from town centre, ideal really been stoppoing there last 5/6 years now

If you dont mind a 30 min drive to the course try the Old Manse in Bourton on the water, superb small hotel/pub, double rooms about £110 p.n.

Anyone interested in staying right in the town centre in the Cheltenham Holiday Inn Express I have one room available (sleeps up to 4) for the Thursday night 15th March (check out Friday).

Currently retailing at £400 per night I am selling for £200.
