Hi all
This forum won't close - we've renamed it Cheltenham 2012, so you can keep looking at posts from this year, and start posting about next year's Festival. We've also opened an Aintree 2011 category - that will then be renamed Punchestown 2011, then perhaps Galway 2011, and so on, so we always have a category for the major jumps festivals/meetings. There is also a Guineas 2011 category. We'll treat that the same way, so it will become Derby 2011 etc etc. If people don't use/don't like, we can always have a rethink! |
|
By:
Good work, Betfair....a sensible approach imo
|
|
By:
Where's the Aintree 2011 forum?
Can't see it? |
|
By:
Hi Lady Margaret
It's in Other Horse Racing. Plan is to move it into the main left-hand menu at the start of next week, by which time hopefully a few decent threads will have developed in it. |

Hats off to Betfair Community Manager!
Inspired thinking. |

Thanks for the words of support! Please let others know the new categories are there as obviously having made the changes, it would be good to see them prove to be popular and useful. |
|
By:
Yes well done. The Cheltenham 2011/12 is the most important one to keep rolling as it involves so many top races and culimates at the end of the season.
|

Totally sintonian
The Cheltenham category will always be present - we'll just change the name each year (as we have done now from 2011 to 2012). The others, like Aintree, will also stay present but will change name as festivals/big meetings come and go. |
|
By:
It still sez Cheltenham 2011 in the header imo

Really? I'm only seeing 2012. |
|
By:
When you click on Cheltenham 2012 on main list, the first page you see on my screen still has the header Cheltenham 2011.
|
|
By:
Hi Stake
Are you in Beta or Classic? I have looked at both, and I can't see Cheltenham 2011 anywhere. At the risk of being a pain, exactly where on the page are you seeing Cheltenham 2011? |
|
By:
In Classic it says 2011 above previous pages, hth.
|
|
By:
I am risking making myself sound very dumb here (!) - but do you mean in the URL, or somewhere actually on the page?

Oh, and by the way, the new forums i.e. Guineas 2011 etc can only be viewed in the BETA forum...hence the lack of threads there....

Thanks Stake - I'm in the process of having them copied into Classic as well.

great idea betfair,im sure these will prove popular once fellow members are aware of them,
|
|
By:
Thanks evra - as I said previously, I am aiming to get them into the Classic menu asap.
But please spread the word of their existence, and if there are other similar things we can do, let me know. |

Personally I think it's a terrible idea re-naming this category 2012 and not deleting it. All you will get is people dragging up old posts and threads from previous years to the top, just to prove a point "I'm right your wrong" etc. It will get even more tedious and detract from the good stuff. By all means have a cheltenham forum all the year round, but starting afresh every time is a must. |
|
By:
Hi GI Mac
That's a fair thought, but I want to give this a try and see if it works. I'll keep an eye on things. |
|
By:
I think it is an excellent idea.
As in life people who get it wrong often will want it sweeping under the carpet so they can continue in the same vein without learning and without accountability. It is a form of quality control being able to measure opinions of the past to give credence to the same posters in the future and preventing trolls from prospering otherwise they can get away with poor or aggressive contributions then have it wiped clean as if it hadnt happened, only to continue in the same vein thereafter. People who are not interested in the past dont want to learn for the future and antepost is just that ... learning from the past to improve your predictions in the future. People can choose which threads to read nobody is forced to read any thread on here they dont want to. Those who want to learn from the past still can if a previous seasons observations can still be referred to. |

Desmond is someone I have proven on a long thread to have been correct about re Celestial Halo and he wrong. This leads to posters following you around pestering you on unrelated threads, I think you need to address this on here.

By:
I thought you had blocked me after I genuinely proved that you hadn't proved me wrong about CH at all, complete with evidence to back up my claim. Another of your lies, I assume. You should be careful what you wish for, I know that you forget about what lies you've told and assume that everyone has the memory of a goldfish, but retaining classics like your Willie Mullins and GMOOH threads is never going to work in your favour. If anything on these fora needs addressing it's posters attributing imaginary positions to others in order to discredit their views as merely 'pocket-talk'. It gets in the way of reasoned discussion and is a pathetic schoolyard tactic that I had hoped we had all long grown out of. |
|
By:
CVByrne, sintonian and Desmond Orchard on this thread are all blocked by me.
sintonian is offended when I gets things right on here and calls me a liar at every opportunity. If you want me to proof bets to Betfair I have made that he consistently stalks me over accusing me of lying about I am happy to do so if it prevents his harrassment on here. At earlier stages each of them said they had blocked me, I advised them to do this also to avoid problems but then they realised that didnt allow them to get even on racing issues I had proven them wrong over so quickly they unblocked me. I dont care they were wrong and do not pursue them around the forum hassling them as they do me, though on one occasion I retaliated and regret this as I dropped to a certain posters level. Is it not possible for me to request they are automatically blocked from reading my posts on here? I have had a great season antepost judgement and bets wise but it has its drawbacks on here. Thanks |
|
By:
I've never said that I've blocked you Kirk, you said you had blocked me, another of your delusions (I don't use the word lightly, but I do, sadly, credit you with actually believing most of the fiction that you post on here).
I would never block you, you're great value. |
|
By:
That request would be to block them from reading my contributions across all forums and I am happy if you block me (though I already have) from reading theirs.
This is a good way of solving the stalking problems on here imo. If posters think you are worth reading and respond well to that then there is no need to request a block on them reading your contributions. Solves problems which the current arrangement of allowing the stalkers to read and respond to your contributions doesnt. Regards |
|
By:
So the desire for quality control doesn't apply to you then, just other people. We've spoken about your God-complex before, old boy.
You seem to think that anyone who highlights a mistake you've made is a 'stalker', whilst gleefully never missing an opportunity to do the same to others. If you want to heap undignified levels of praise on yourself when some of the sh1t you sling sticks to the wall, you're going to have to accept a little schadenfreude when you're up to your armpits in it. |
