Came to a virtual standstill the other side of it. I'm not saying he would have won if he'd jumped it as well as the other fences, but he travelled the best, was last off the bit and looked very threatening.
he came to a virtual standstill because he was absolutely knackered ... going up and down on the same spot at the end...massive,massive effort.
WAF almost caught him - that shows you how much he'd given.
Horses make mistakes, fall, don't jump as well at the end of races because they're tired - not always but for the most part.

Yep, he almost came to a stop before the last while Denman and Long Run winged it. Still no chance with the winner would have been a few lengths closer is all.

I agree. Not so much a jumping error, more down to fatigue. I didn't think Kauto had that sort of performance left in him at his age. Thought I'd done my money laying him - seemed like he was trading odds on for most of the 2nd circuit. What a star. I just wish they'd retire him after such a heroic performance but no, it seems the greedy cnuts are going after place money again.

Sounds stupid after winning 2 Gold Cups but the distance of the race at a fast pace was always a downfall, making his efforts over the years all the more meritorious. Dont see a reason to retire him, a lot on here were saying the same after the King George, whether he should go for the GC again is another matter, but only Long Run beat them and at the moment where is this new generation of stars. Probably eating grass in a French field, lets await Mr Bromleys new finds

If Kauto comes to Punchestown it'd make my year. I think on his Gold Cup running he'd win easily.
It's nonsense for people to want the 2nd and 3rd best chasers in the land to be retired. Only one horse is better than Kauto and Denman and that's the sublime Long Run.
