Can't be many horses who have done that. First or second in 6 festivals and first or second in four consecutive Gold Cups. Not even Best Mate or Kauto have done that.

No, will be very sadly missed when they retire him, which I think should be now, Kauto was not quite as good as Denman, but gets more plaudits, simply because he stayed fit, whereas Denman always pick up infections and injuries

BEAST. Never knows how to give in and looks so much better under his mate Sam Thomas. Disgrace they ever jocked him off. Absolutely joy to watch yesterday.

Special horse.

Looked absolutely cream crackered in the ring after the race.

yes, but its like asking a 30 year old to win a 100m olympic final, so had every right to be knackered

I think he has done enough now and deserves a rest. Great horse with a huge heart. What a record and what a great advert he and Kauto have been for this game of ours. Thank you Tank for the memories.

As yet another over-hyped product of the Nicholls' conveyor belt, I originally thought he was just a dull, plodding, typical old-fashioned NH throwback, one-dimensional stayer and a pace-less bully to boot! I thought different AFTER he won his Gold Cup and I took more notice. I was always a Kauto Star fan but Denman's fighting qualities won me over. One run in a year (shocker at Kempton) before running his heart out in trying to defend his Gold Cup was one one those never to be forgotten moments in the sport and it's since been a roller-coaster of a journey following his career. He has more than grew on me and yesterday, I surprised myself by roaring out (on the turn for home) "GO ON DENMAN!" when upsides Kauto Star & Long Run & even the horse I backed, What A Friend! I think we've been seeing fewer of his ilk over the years...big, tough bruisers and I think he's the last of a dying breed - savour him while we can. One thing that shouldn't be forgotten is that it has taken 180+ performances from some fantastic chasers at their peak to beat him in this race and if he'd been in a different era (he'd have won at least 80% of Gold Cups without breaking sweat) we would be hailing a four time winner! That is unfortunate! I've got no doubt he'd have bladdered a triple winner in Best Mate. WHAT A HERO!

Well said Harchy Grin

Been a massive fan ever since his RSA win, just love his style of racing. Not as flashy or with the turn of foot as the likes of Kauto Star but when he hits the front, you just know he'll keep going.

Would have cried if he won Laugh

Denmans picture adorns my wall. He is one of my 4 equine heros

Moscow Flyer
Kauto Star
Denman
Hurricane Fly

All among the finest race horses you'd ever see.

'Whats that coming over the hill? Is it a MONSTER ?'

Well the year he won the GC he was a monster. But as the eels song goes - a beloved monster!

Dont mention it.

The horses represents everything thats good about Chasing and is still holding his form at 11.
If he remains well I see no reason why Nichols wouldn't run him next year; he could win the
Gold Cup at 12. What a Horse!
