*Putting horses away/keeping them fresh for the festival is a stupid practise and patantly does NOT work, observe Menorah, Ghizaou,Cue Card yesterday and Time For Rupert today. Diamon Harry is another. Trainers need to cop on and realize it's not good for racing and not good for their horses. A waste of talent and time.
*Irish form is a notch or two above the British form
I think you're right about horses being put away to keep them fresh, the Irish had a fantastic day today but I wouldn't say it's due to the form being a notch or two above the British! I think the problem is there's a lot of pressure on UK trainers to win races at the Festival, whereas the Irish just seem to take it in their stride and so produce hardened, race fit horses!
I think you're being harsh on Master Minded; I think perhaps he's an early season horse who needs to be mad fresh and have cut in the ground! If you watch his performances this season they've slowly got worse as it's gone on!

I'm absolutely astonished that Masterminded was backed off the boards given his apparent - which the facts seem to confirm - requirement for soft ground. This wasn't a few £50 bets - serious money has shortened him up to this extent.

We have learned to be wary of Mr Nicholls' over enthusiasm for his biggest stable stars. Said MM was his bet of the week which makes me worry for Big Buck's

Sane things gonna happen to Kauto/Denman on Friday, they have had their time could even happen to Big Bucks tomorrow. Horses don't go on for ever, even the great NH horses.

I like Paul, his enthusiasm is generally good for the game and he has managed to keep his yard clear of, er, controversies which have affected his rivals. But there are some big holes emerging in the yard.

I totally agrre with mr mischief. its ok if you can train a horse properly to give it a 2-3 month break and get it spot on for big day. Cue card clearly pulls like a train even more so when fresh. time for rupert has always won getting driven out given the impression that he improves every run. i am the biggest festival fan bar none but fear that the meeting is becoming too big for itself. it is surely worrying when trainers say the main thing was just to get here today. the main thing is knowing your horse and clearly these trainers dont.

In hindsight even at his best Master Minded was probably a stone overrated.
Competitive racing is definitely better than homework.
Irish form is not to be sneered at.
*Gordon Elliot is the next big thing
