(excluding the year that katchit won when the best hurdlers (imo) were running in the supreme, rather than the CH)

There are very good reasons to doubt the front three in the market imo.

Menorah:  Supreme winners have a v.poor record in following up the next year. Also hasnt run this calender year.

Peddler's Cross: Has a point to point winner ever won the Champion hurdle? Could you really be impressed in the standard of the other horses in the race if one could win the quickest slickest race in jump racing?

Hurricane Fly:  No course form.  Already well publicised that sire hasnt ever had a festival winner. Neither jockey or trainer have ever had a champion hurdle winner.

Maybe the reason the race is considered to be so open is because it's, well, just a bit ****.

The race desperately needed Binocular to run, not only because he's the champ and the most likely winner, but to also validate the worthiness of whoever ends up winning imo.  And I think there's a very good chance the winner wont be one of the three above.

Ridiculous. Behave.

Still a top race, just not exceptional any more

Credo I have to agree a bit. It's not a poor Champion Hurdle but Binocular being out whether you fancied him or not has taken a huge amount away from the race. It's still a good race don't get me wrong but it's not what it was going to be.

certainly not a weak Champion Hurdler

was probably a bit strong to call it ''the weakest in years'', probably a reaction to hearing it being massively hyped one too many times!!  Think there's definitely a chance for a bigger priced winner outside the front three though.

I think the possibility of a winner from outside the top 3 in the betting doesn't reflect a poor race; on the contrary imo: it highlights the strength in depth.

I agree it is more competitive than great. I had Binoc NRNB and his non participation has ruined the race for me. He was the benchmark in the race, now whoever wins didn't have to beat the champ. Sad.
