Maljimar may have touched 1.01 when Wichita chinned it?
Report horse9 March 4, 2011 7:30 PM GMT
I would have thought Barizan was close to 1.01 when about 6 clear jumping the last, only to gt swallowed upby Soldanito ?
Report TD_Gunner March 4, 2011 7:31 PM GMT
Refinement ???
Report Dan Chipowski March 4, 2011 7:31 PM GMT
Just checked and Maljimar only hit 1.06.
Report Dan Chipowski March 4, 2011 7:32 PM GMT
TD is correct, Refinement hit 1.01.
Report Hibore March 4, 2011 7:33 PM GMT

Report Hibore March 4, 2011 7:40 PM GMT

Report Numismatist March 4, 2011 9:48 PM GMT
Celestial Gold must have traded short when picked up by Mr Widger Cry
Report hellonewman March 4, 2011 9:50 PM GMT
Who got caught by Big Strand ? ( pre Betfair days )
Report Numismatist March 4, 2011 9:50 PM GMT
Allegation? .. Or something like that?
Report hellonewman March 4, 2011 9:55 PM GMT
Yes - I think that was the one - a Martin Pipe Racing Club horse collared by another Pipe beast, ridden by Aussie Jamie Evans
Report Numismatist March 4, 2011 9:59 PM GMT
... With a windmill whip action!! Just checked the result. It was Allegation nutted for MCP. If I recall correctly, Castle Sweep may have won if not making a complete hash of the last (3rd)
Report seaserpent March 4, 2011 10:01 PM GMT
yes remember it well, I backed Castle Sweep and it made a complete b**locks of the last !

Also pre betfair Talbot was a mile clear turning into the straight and got touched off, think it was Flyers Nap in the Kim Muir. With the other instances above like Celestial Gold, Merchants Friend It seems in the Amateurs races that one rider tends to see the finish line about 1/2 a mile from home !!
Report Numismatist March 4, 2011 10:20 PM GMT
Flyers Nap, Remember it well.
It was the first year I went to the festival (97) and recall a young Robert Thornton giving me my first winner on King Lucifer..
Report seaserpent March 4, 2011 10:30 PM GMT
97 was when he won his 2nd festival race when he won the old Ritz Club, the race above was in 95
Report Numismatist March 4, 2011 10:32 PM GMT
Are you sure? Thought he beat one of JP McManus' in the Kim Muir in 97?
Report evra March 4, 2011 10:34 PM GMT
what price did Ouninpohja hit in the county when nailed by perdrobob Cry
Report seaserpent March 4, 2011 10:40 PM GMT
Sorry I meant Flyers Nap 2nd festival win was in 97 in the ritz club, think we had wires crossed yes King Lucafer won the Kim Muir beating Time for a Run ( I think )
Report seaserpent March 4, 2011 10:42 PM GMT
and as footnote young robert thornton also won the last race on that day. the pertemps final on Pharenear
Report Numismatist March 4, 2011 10:45 PM GMT
I'm with you now. Didn't know Flyers had won twice at the festival.
Looking back through his form, far more consistent than I thought, only throwing in the PU's at the tail end of his career.
Report revedesivola March 4, 2011 10:50 PM GMT
before betfair time but HARCHIBALD definately wouldLaugh
Report Numismatist March 4, 2011 10:54 PM GMT
Harchibald was 05 I think, soon after I joined here.
Many forumites still seething about it at the end of the week when I got back.
Report revedesivola March 4, 2011 10:56 PM GMT
was it, i couldnt find ir ow on timeform
Report Numismatist March 4, 2011 11:02 PM GMT
Twas my favourite Cheltenham race 'live', before being surpassed by Kauto v Denman I.
Sense of disbelief in the crowd after the Harchibald race was unreal. Sense of incredible anticipation before the 2008 Gold Cup equally so.
Report duffy March 4, 2011 11:55 PM GMT
native dara would have gone short before what's up boys got him....and le coudray would have before anzum gobbled him up.
Report wondersobright March 5, 2011 12:03 AM GMT
"What's Up Boys is flashing home on the inside, to get up What's Up Boys" Laugh

Nick Dendee felt like a 1.01 loser [:(]

Back in the days before BF it was punter v bookie - the bookies where jumping for joy when it departed. Sadly this primal battle has gone with the advent of BF. I much prefer the feel of winning/losing hard cash in bookies or on tracks than a computerised balance. It sanatises the whole thing and makes me lose more too Laugh

Imagine Joe Mac in the bumper wouldve been a low price in running.
Report Howdi March 5, 2011 9:34 AM GMT
Harchibald was the originally 1.01 buster legend.
Report hellonewman March 6, 2011 10:04 PM GMT
Bet Unsinkable Boxer would've been 1.01 from a long, long way out
Report olddesperado March 7, 2011 3:52 PM GMT
