it would literally be the best day ever

I think the original poster meant to title this thread "When Kauto Star wins the Gold Cup..."

Only joking - but let's be honest, if either gets the job done the place will erupt. I for one would be thrilled to bits if either old warrior wins.

If either win it'll be special.

I'm starting to think Denman has a massive chance!! Could he go off favourite if rumour of Imperial Commanders shoddy workouts are to be believed!?
Report Rob February 24, 2011 12:53 AM GMT
it would be special if either won but we shouldn't put the two horses in the same category, KS has won 2 Gold Cups, 4 KG's and numerous other G1 chases including Tingle Creeks etc, how many has Denman won since his novice days? If KS recaimed the Gold Cup for the second time it would surely surpass any achievement - ever?

have no interest in either horse financially but i'd love to see either horse win and the 1-2 finish would be something to behold...stands might need a new roof if they are slogging it out from the 2nd last and we get a photo finish Grin
Report dwm767 February 24, 2011 7:54 AM GMT
Rob; why shouldn't we put both horses in the same category!? That is a ridiculous statement!

In 2007/2008 Denman won the Hennessey Gold Cup, the Lexus Chase and the Gold Cup in ONE season! He then suffered a heart defect and came back to win a 2nd Hennessey off an official mark of 174, giving over a stone in weight, and a three and a half length beating to a fellow Grade One winning horse!

On top of that the horses have competed against each other in three Gold Cups, where their record reads...

Denman 1/2/2
Kauto Star 2/1/F

I think everyone has their favourite of the two, but to put Kauto Star in a league of his own is a complete joke!

Big chance of it happening.
Much fresher this year than last, winning jockey back on board.2 good reasons for a better run than last year imo.
Question marks abound in this race.
Report dwm767 February 24, 2011 8:10 AM GMT
Agreed. While everyone seems keen to dismiss the old guard, im more incline to think they'll fill the places! Although they are 10/11 years old now, im not sure people are appreciating just how good they are, and that while age will take something out of them, it may not be enough for the rest of the field!
Report BonVivvy February 24, 2011 11:41 AM GMT
Much will depend on the ground but on soft i'm liking Denman more and more, though he will need the perfect race and tactics and nothing short,he's not gonna win this being held up and battling it out he'll need to beat a relentless gallop and get them at it down the back straight. He can "slip" the field around 7/8 lengths with a mighty leap and pick up around 5 out(excatly how and why he beat KS in 2008)

He's fresher than ever and little sign of decline, and i believe Nicholls believes he has a real chance,he rarely talks up Denman due to his general lazyish workouts but has been very bullish about him this time around.

Likewise with IC he will also have to be 100% to beat Denman and the rest.A war of attrition would suit Denman and pity any horse that goes head to head down the back straight with him(Ollie Magern once tried it and finished 90 lenghts last!)

One huge question remains..is KS on the decline? if he is he wont live with these and the fences without errors,if he ISNT he could win by 6 lenghts.

For those looking at ages KS and Denman are virtually identically 11yrs old around Chelters festival(so both only JUST 11)However Denman is irish bred and has 22 races KS is french with 36 on the clcok.

Denman has only won one of his seven chases since winning the gold cup in 2008. So for him to reclaim it in 2011 would be awesome.

I actually think since I dont rate long run at chelts yet, diamond harry not  sparkling, pando might not get there and kempes not good enough.

The old  guard could fill the first three home.

I've never been one to have favourite horses but for some reason I adore Denman.

Last year I was green for £600 on IC and slightly red on Denman and I screamed myself horse wanting the big fella to get up and chin him.

I'd love to see Denman hit the front this year with a full curcuit to go and turn it into a street fight!!

I've got goose bumps just thinking about it!![:D]
