'Nursed' home by AP there accoring to Cattermole and you cant argue with that.

This is a nailed on cert McManus gamble at the Festival this season.

My grandma could have made more effort than AP on him there everyone get on early.

They may give him multiple entries to keep the price but he'll be 'back to his best' at the Festival imo.

They are possibly going to play the long game with GMOOH. They can afford to.
Report ilikewavingatbuses February 18, 2011 6:44 PM GMT
3 times now magic THREE times. and even a rare moment when a professional pundit (hislop) comes out and comments it was that bad. just because she says anything doesnt mean shes right but the fact that she felt strongly about it speaks volumes and i for one support her 100%  having seen 3 utterly abysmal rides for the champion jockey.

and i've not a dount in my mind this horse will improve markedly at some stage in his career and then we'll all see but still nothing will be done.
Report eric_morris February 18, 2011 6:44 PM GMT
Yeah I think Backspin will see a 'return to form' also after being backed last time and doing people's dough.
Report magic carpet February 18, 2011 7:01 PM GMT
Do you seriously believe that on any of the 3 occassions that GMOOH would have won or placed in any of those 3 races even if AP would of knocked the daylights out of the horse? As for L Hislop she is not a profesional pundit she is a journalist and television presenter

Eric Morris

So firstly this horse is being pulled and will be the biggest certainty ever to look through a bridle in his chosen target at the festival........

No wait a minute now he's a "decoy" and some other horse will land the big coup..............

As for Backspin, yes they have really got him well handicapped off 150.

People on this forum have been telling me you are a clown for ages.
I can see what they mean.

Buses .
I hope and expect that GMOOH will come back to form at some stage. If and when he does I expect all this will flare up again. When it does just consider the possibility that the horse has a problem at the moment. He's just not finishing his races. TBH this applies to every horse Jonjo has run in the last fortnight.

he never whips the horse, he doesnt push him like he pushes other horses, he doesnt give his 100%= non trier!

why is this horse running in races if its not right? so they run it the 1st time this season...its a major drifter, and doesnt place. so trainer thinks, thats not his running, we'll have to get him checked out, they find nothing.

he runs the 2nd time, again a drifter, again ap is particularly easy on him yet again just like his last ride on him, again trainer/jockey, the horse was keen but not so keen that it was 2 furlongs behind the winner, again not whipped, i believe the race results says 'nudged along, soon weakened', neve whipped, never vigorously ridden, just allowed to drop back thru the field on the bridle.

yesterday, again bad drifter, again ap v easy on him, just nursed along an allowed to travel back thru the field in his own time, never one did he go for the horse, the horse hasnt been whipped since the supreme novice.

mccoy isnt trying on this horse.

Chased leaders, challenging when hit 3 out, well there next[;)], weakened soon after

Took keen hold, held up in 9th, effort 3 out and in touch, nudged alongLaugh and no headway 2 out, faded

and again look at the distance he finished behind menorah and has put in a bad run b4 and after that race now, why isnt he being reassessed by the handicapper, surely hes atleast 10-15lbs worse than last yr? why isnt he doing this?
Report flyingbolt February 19, 2011 9:44 AM GMT

yep that just about sums up the handicappers in the uk these days,
Report cruise d February 20, 2011 12:38 AM GMT
Why evra? What would you rate him?

After running poorly at Kempton in a race which has always brought the best from him, beating 160 rated Sizing Europe and China Rock (158) by about 3 lengths in Ireland and last years Gold Cup run you would have to say he deserved a decent drop in the weights. This was the handicappers first chance to adjust him since the GC and maybe on what the horse has done since his last KG win the drop was fair.

I intend to take nothing from Kauto and I would love to see him win or at least run with credit and finish the GC ths year.
Report cruise d February 20, 2011 12:41 AM GMT

My theory since is that trainer/owner are after good handicap mark mark for Cheltenham. If i had back the horse at Newbury i would not be happy.
I will definitely keeping him on my side especially if ground half decent.
Owner wouldn't have had him in champion hurdle anyway with Binocular there so county hurdle probable race for him . Very Interesting and betting exchanges to be watched.

Report sintonian February 25, 2011 6:31 PM GMT
Is it really that interesting ? Horses are given entries all the time, they have to go something with them particualrly ones with such high ratings.
Report Swardean February 25, 2011 9:31 PM GMT
I agree they have to go somewhere, but if as has been suggested the horse has problems it should/would not be running.  Just for the record, I will not be backing it but I wouldnt be laying either.

Any news on this fella? 14/1 NRNB with 365 for both the County and the Coral Cup. Cant see how he'd get the trip in the Coral Cup myself but had a decent go on him for the County.

Will surely be near enough fav if he goes for it.
Report Goretski March 2, 2011 3:05 PM GMT
I think the trip in the coral might suit this horse CCM but it's a bit of a leap of faith backing this horse for any race at the minute.
Report festivalfanatic March 2, 2011 3:33 PM GMT
Plenty of stamina in the pedigree but he'd need to be in top form to win a handicap at the Festival off 148 IMO.
Report Can't Catch Me March 2, 2011 3:33 PM GMT
Do you think Goretski? Cant see it myself. And seeing how they chose Supreme over Neptune last year and have kept him at 2 miles, I would be surprised. Although seems to make sense to back him for both if I fancy him, now its NRNB.

I dont think it a huge leap of faith. Poor seasonal bow, but happy to let him off that. Good run in the Greatwood imo off virtually top weight and was going well until clattering 3 out, then nursed in. And given a very sensitive ride last time.

Think he could get a very nice mark and has proved he can go well on the track and at the meeting
Report Goretski March 2, 2011 3:39 PM GMT
Oh i agree CCM, the three runs this year and the subsequent comments, have been, lets say...'intersting'!
Report Can't Catch Me March 2, 2011 3:51 PM GMT
Maybe so ff... but I think it would be a big risk to put him up 5f for the first time at Cheltenham when he has never run over that distance before and this week has presumably been the aim all season. Dont you? Either try him once before or save the step up for next season imo.

Guys you are all missing the obvious - the proceedure carried out is what is know in vets terms as a
hand-breakectomy and it seems to have worked the oracle on this boy who was mighty unlucky in defeat.  This is a common proceedure and is equally simply reversed when required.

The horse was plotted up for one of the biggest Hcaps of the year perfectly (well nearly perfectly)- all part of the game so get over it and enjoy.
Report eric_morris March 18, 2011 8:52 PM GMT

Did the stewards look into the improved run today ???
Report Mister Westsound March 18, 2011 9:00 PM GMT
So manipulation of the handicapping system is only acceptable where it's not obvious to the naked eye.  He did get away with it despite making it pretty obvious but as most folk on here have been knowledgable to notice for months then why the big surprise at the big improvement today after the money coming for it.  You either backed it today or you chose not too.  I backed it and the only disappointment for me was the fact it got pipped on the line.  Id much rather horses were plotted in this manner that some of the more underhand ways that no doubt go on week in week out.
Report Ibrahima Sonko March 18, 2011 9:05 PM GMT
I understand horses have to be handicapped for targets during the season, this one gets my goat as the horse could had been running in the champion hurdle (probably well beaten) and it had a jockey on board who rarely goes easy on a horse.

Thats what makes it stand out more than others.

I backed gmooh today like i have since its 2nd run but i couldnt help but smile when the result came in.

Was it any worse than the improvement in Buena Vista (there might be a thread on that ride too somewhere but I'm too tired to look) ?

Why run the horse in the CH when as you say it would most probably have been well beaten - no where near that standard imo.

The biggest interest now is where GHOOH goes from here.  AP reported after the race that he feels there is still an issue with his breathing and a further operation may be required again in the summer.

Interesting AP still thinks hoss has a problem with its breathing.
He thought something was not quite right in previous runs this season and therefore on more than 1 occassion chose not to ride out with hands & heels (thinking of the welfare of the horse of course).
So he still thinks its got a problem yet it gets the full AP treatment today.
How did AP know that on previous occassions giving it a nudge would have possible caused harm yet yesterday a good thrashing wasnt going to be an issue.

He had an operation less than a fortnight ago and Jonjo dis say he had shown signs it had worked, I didn't think he could possibly recover from that, no matter how simple it is, in time so I never backed him.

Too many confusing looking after a horse who's not right with stopping one and you simply don't stop horses in the type of races he has been running in.

You may well give him a quite run but not 3 and if JP had wanted to land a touch and the horse wasn't wrong in himself  why not the Tote where he has won before.

Jonjo and Jp are way too clever to have tried to land a huge gamble on this horse after he's been in the limelight all season.

He was wrong in himself and that's all about it.

Just asked a question on another thread about thsis so just i case anyone missed it.

"He looks fantastic and he’s filled out really well,” said O’Neill.

"He’s had a few problems but hopefully we’ve put all those right.

“If he jumps well he could be anything – he could be an Arkle horse.

“I’d like to give him another go over fences because we thought he was going to be a good chaser and he’s just not good enough for Champion Hurdle class – we know that – and if he jumps well he could be a fairly useful chaser.
