Foxhunters

haven't seen todays race, but i remember him from a couple of years ago. was a very smart point2point horse but wasn't the best jumper under rules. how was his jumping today?

mostly jumped fast and clean...couple of hairy moments
looks to have a serious engine.

Takes too many liberties with the fences, will be on the floor if it jumps like it did today. Front runs so will soon be in a war it cannot win against Baby Run. Nothing to beat today;market suggested Song of Songs was totally unfancied.

Don't follow PTP but the way Baby Run won last year I think he'll take alot of beating.
There was a strong word for a horse called Chesnut Annie last year and a bit of a plunge on the day, hasn't been seen on a racecourse since but he might be PTPointing and if he makes Cheltenham he could be a live outsider

Qualification still needs a couple of runs this season doesn't it? The Leicester race tomorrow looks interesting. Turthen and Battlecry both decent. I have to declare an interest as my brother owns and trains William Somers but he will probably lack the speed to beat those two.

he won quite well.  his challenger fell at the last but think he might of had his measure. apart from the last he jumped well and travels very powerfully.  he's only 6 and could be a big ask, but is very likeable

sageform - I thought qualification was possible via PTP finishes ?
I'm sure you have to have finished 1st or 2nd in a PTP in the same season to get in, could be wrong

Chesnut Annie is an excellent pointer , full of guts and a will to win. It usually runs against uncompetitive fields, however, and is probably at least 7lbs below the top Hunter Chasers. Little chance in the big one, I'm afraid. Anyone know anything about Civil Disobedience? I was really impressed with this pointer last year, thought it could make it to the top table.

Must admit I was surprised to see Wiklliam win that easily. I took 14 on here last night but only small bet as I didn't really think he was good enough. Didn't lay any off though... Anyone think he has a chance at Cheltenham? He went too fast early when beaten there in May and Mark Wall took his time today before going on with a circuit left. He may have beaten a bunch of unfit horses today but looked good to me. Probably needs it soft to be at his best.

horse9, I didn't say what sort of runs were required but 2 placed runs in ptp or HChases are needed I think.

For what its worth i think you have every right to think about Cheltenham albeit that i think your chance would be greatly aided by what looks like a preference for softer ground.Strictly based on the fact that he comprehensively beat a decent field headed by a race fit Turthen who placed in the foxhunters in 2009 and two horses who were both formerly very decent horses under rules(Battlecry and Turko) then you must have sound claims.I'm sure your Brother will know how far forward the horse was with regard to fitness today and how much he feels the horse will come on between now and March 18th

I haven't had chance to speak to Tim yet but I think he was fit. He was hoping to run earlier but the weather got in the way. I don't even know if he intends to enter at Cheltenham but I would think he will. Although William is now 10 y.o., he has very few miles on the clock and was not seriously trained until he was 7. He is a massive horse who reminds me of Jodami when you stand into him.

Nothing to do with me really. My brother has been trying to get a good horse for 40 years and finally has one. Home bred, trains it himself with no stable staff other than Tim (age 63) and his wife and nobody else rides him except Mark in races.

Is there an english point to point site which will give details of what pt to pts horses have run in this season

I have had a whisper about a Northern raider in Jaunty Flight. I spoke with David Easterby at Sheriff Hutton p2p and he said they were hoping to get him there and he would have a good chance.

sageform, good evening, hope you are well. i hope william somers does run in march, and i certainly intend to back him if he lines up, lovely big old fashioned chasing type of horse, who has crucial course experience. on good to soft ground or softer i certainly think he has a fair chance at worst.

tomorrow and fridays hunter chases may tell us more, certainly fridays when i understand just amazing may well be running.

From the drift I take it Roulez Cool is a non-runner?

Hi davix, long time no see. I don't get racing as much these days-old age and no tote credit on course are the main reasons. Hope you are well too.

Baby Run confirmed that he is still a force in the Foxhunter but he was not going away from Halcon Genelardais at the finish so on a line through Turthen, William Somers is not that far behind him. Plenty more contenders of course but I can't see any really high class younger hunters coming through this year.

saw the post about Jaunty Flight....I agree that he would be of much interest and has a great chance....has he or is he qualified for this race...not sure how he has got on in any points, if he has ran.  Can anyone clarify?

Just Amazing is a new factor in the race and might have a bit more class than Baby Run. You need to be first or second in 2 hunter chases or open ptp's since May 1. I think.

Just Amazing was hopeless yestrday. Difficult to see him being anywhere near the winners enclosure imo.

Dont know if Just Amazing is the sort of horse who likes 2 runs so quickly like they have done to get him qualified for Cheltenham.

Anybody bit worried about Willie Twiston riding Baby Run ?  Very inexperienced albeit the horse looks a sound jumper.

Dont worry about young TD id be more worried about the horse.Big future i feel for young TD and much better than his brother.

Jaunty Flight won the Sherriff Hutton open a couple of weeks ago and I am not sure if this qualified him. If not, the intention was to get him qualified so if he runs at the festival they have aimed it at the race.

Jet.....Qualification for entry in the Foxhunter Chase is based on a horse's previous performances in certain types of race within a specific period. To be eligible a horse must have finished first or second twice in hunter chases, or have won two open point-to-point races, or have won one open point-to-point race and finished first or second in a hunter chase.  Jaunty has won one so he needs another 1st in open ptp or 1st/2nd in a Hunter Chase.
