Does anyone think Starluck will run in the Arkle, i hear he's taken well to fences and i think he could be live contender, but is it worth having a little punt?

"Day 1 will be crucial, not only does he ride Binocular but Starluck has now been confirmed for the Arkle, whilst Quantativeeasing is ante-post favourite for the closing Centenary Novices' Chase.

Starluck got off to an encouraging start over fences at Huntingdon last week and, with J.P. McManus not having an obvious Arkle contender, McCoy is set to retain the ride."

It looks like Starluck goes to the ARKLE!!!!

They just asked Graham Cunningham on RUK whether he thought Starluck would run in the Arkle and he thought he would. He's backed Medermit and will fear S greatly if he runs and will have a saver on him.
No news yet, though. Less than 2 weeks to go and the ground looks to be in our favour, should he run.

The trainer has already been quoted as saying"The arkle may come to soon as he lacks experience, and we'll do whats best for the horse"
And its no surprise the price has dropped with comments like"Starluck has now been confirmed for the Arkle",when it hasnt.
The only opinion thats worth anything is the trainers,so i would ignore that.
Anyway, for anyone thats stupid enough to believe that, then take note of wakeys latter comment"It looks like Starluck goes to the ARKLE ".
Bit different from confirmed, its either confirmed or it isnt, and right now it isnt.

Reporters looking to lay off?

Announced clear as day at last nights Cheltenham Preview with PPowers and Ruby Walsh present that Starluck had been announced a none runner in the Arkle.

The Racing Post had headlines when the horse was switched to fences (could reporters have got on) and now they seem reluctant to report on his none participation (could reporters be looking to lay off?) or Is this bookie influenced, their main backers as advertisers, who will keep bets on him before nrnb applies. A little sinister this as mentioned above.

Report nelsondave. March 4, 2011 10:08 AM GMT
if they do go to Cheltenham my wish is that Starluck falls at the first fence and is unscathed, that would be slight karma for the way connections are messing people around, why announce to the world that Arkle was target a few weeks ago, only to step back and say it was uncertain after a debut success over fences? McCoy then goes on to make some pretty bold statements and saying "it would be unfair on the horse to go straight to the Arkle in his opinion" then I think wtf is McCoy being questioned regarding the horses future races, has he now taken up ownership? LOL
Then conlicting reports this week, he goes for it, he doesnt. Paddy Power Review night and clear as day reported that A Fleming has declared him a non runner and they are going to wait for Aintree, so I lay off at the odds I backed him prior to his chase debut, I then log onto betfair to see if any is matched, and all of it was and now trading over 5pts lower!
Report wakey55 March 4, 2011 10:10 AM GMT
Just cos its been backed it doesnt mean its contracting in price.... The blue just means its contracted in price, whatever bets theyve had they feel they can take.

I am going to give you a chance Eric cos i ama nice guy. The most popular bets are only an indication of what is being bet on this site and it doesnt say how much is being bet just the volume of bets. Buts its an indication that someone somewhere is backing Starluck.

I know it's tortuous but this is Cheltenham. It isn't like missing any other meeting.
Even Hobbs hasn't decided for sure where he is going to run Captain Chris. His backers may have to wait until the Monday before to know their fate.
Obviously I hope he runs because, if he does, I think he has a blinding chance and the field is cutting up bad.
Also he has run at the last 2 Festival's, that may help. We'll see.

Understand what u say regarding it being Cheltenham, but why make statements??? At least Hobbs has not declared Captain Chris as 'yes the Arkle is the aim' now 'he will definately go to the Jewson' or 'he will sidestep Cheltenham'
I think he would have an outstanding chance, this years race looks bad, but that is not the point, the point is about people saying one thing and doing another
Report eric_morris March 4, 2011 10:54 AM GMT

Sadly it brought the bad out in some but lagely it was an enjoyable journey.
I still can't help thinking they have made a mistake, though.
I wonder if they will look back in the future and wish they had gone to Cheltenham. We will see.
I remember pushing like anything for Clive Smith to run Kauto Star in the Hennessy. They decided against it because they wanted to win a 5th King George. I wonder whether they regret that now?
Anyway, looking ahead, I do have the next step already planned so the chance of recompense awaits.

I can't really see why they ran it at Huntingdon, might as well have left it until next season and he'll now never run in an Arkle. Doesn't make sense and Aintree arguably more difficult for an inexperienced horse to jump round unless they're hoping the race cuts up badly.
Report brigust1 March 4, 2011 8:41 PM GMT
I agree with a lot of what you say Booster but we now have the benefit of hindsight, they didn't.
I do agree that Aintree could be more difficult than Cheltenhsm though. They go a good speed at Aintree so another prep is advisable. The last time he ran at Aintree after Cheltenham he ran worse. But I wish them luck and haven't changed my mind about him.
Report booster March 4, 2011 8:49 PM GMT
And I don't think the long run to the last at Aintree is necessarily in his favour either.
Report brigust1 March 4, 2011 9:50 PM GMT
I think this staying issue is over-rated. He stayed a mile and a half on the flat and he has already won at Cheltenham. The only races he lost he was racing against higher rated horses. I also think Timmy Murphy's exagerated waiting tactics only work against lesser opposition so worked against him in better races.
Time will tell, all is not lost.

Just looking through all the Arkle threads. On the 27th Jan the decs were out and 2 of mine, Flat Out and Thousand Stars non runners. Went through the info again and on 6th Feb added Starluck to Finians Rainbow. Nice prices, win or lose.
Now Starluck has a thread all of his own and, without question, has brought a great deal of interest to this race.
I did notice Eric was calling all of us f u c k w i ts on the other threads so no change there. He really should get himself sorted.

God, Eric, you're the saddest little bastard I've ever heard. Today's race didn't prove anything other than he doesn't want a small field on soft ground which we already knew. From my financial point of view, the only horse I've backed for the Arkle is Realt Dubh at 28s laid back at 14s so I've got nothing riding on the decision but the real loser is the owner, who will never get the chance to run a horse in an Arkle who has finished close up in a Champion Hurdle and Triumph Hurdle due to lousy training and placing of his horse by the trainer.

Can't believe anyone has a life so sad to need to constantly go over old threads and list people's names just because they don't agree with you. I really wish you hadn't been bullied at school. I've heard it said that the greatest of gifts is to be able to see yourself as others see you. Unfortunately Eric is virtually the polar opposite of this and so it could be said that he is afflicted with the greatest of curses. He sees himself as almost divine when it comes to the business of antepost punting and like most deities is therefore incapable of error and it follows that his pronunciations must not be challenged. Any questioning of his methods is, at best, feeble-minded, but more likely heresey.
This differs greatly from what we see, a deluded fantasist, punting his pocket money, whose only pleasure in life is to ridicule others views in the hope that we will see the truth (that he is infallible). I assume that this desperate need for approval/god complex has its root in some kind of sexual inadequacy or perhaps mere frustration at still having to live at home with his long-suffering parents. His anger stems from our refusal to accept that aftertiming heroic last second trades (completely at odds with earlier vigorously argued stances), does not a guru make.
Bless him.
Report eric_morris March 12, 2011 11:20 PM GMT
Desmond argued on this antepost forum that I couldnt say Celestial Halo was really bad value for the Arkle at 10/1 before he even ran over fences antepost because he was the highest rated hurdler in the race. I pointed out  accurately why he was poor value and he argued for about 2 pages I was wrong.

He disappeared without trace then with his tail between his legs after that failed project and is another example of someone I proved miserably wrong that has to come back and stalk me, another who has his head so far up his own @rse he cant accept how rubbish he is at antepost so takes it out on those who prove him wrong.

Desmonds Orchard is out of apples and he is blocked by me I dont have the time for such a bluster who is furious when he gets it wrong not with himself but with others.

Don't worry about Eric though. I've bocked him a while ago and so it will remain. I have no idea what he is saying and I care not. It is impossible to have a discussion with someone whose starting point is that you are an idiot.

I do agree about the jockey but that is out of my hands. I had hoped PF would take a note out of Hen Knight's book and go for an established Cheltenham jockey. It's not as though he has loads of top class horses to share around. Sometimes the logic of it escapes me. B O'C has had nearly 300 rides this season but only 9 winners. I only hope it isn't close.

well its hard to see him beating this field comfortably, and if its close as seems likely,he will need every assistance. To be honest i just dont understand them keeping the same jockey.

Nobody seems interested in Starluck now there are no bets riding on him. After his appalling show of jumping last time when there was a pace on thank god they missed the Arkle who knows what would have happened to him or others there. They have done the right thing also in hiring the services of Yogi Breisner with Aintree in mind however APs words re the horses lack of scope and small size still ring in the ears.

Hard to see him ever winning another chase so must be back over hurdles now.
