Time this beast had its own thread imo (apologies if he has already but couldnt see it).

That was an unbelievable performance for me. Shot from the Hip was well fancied, beaten a couple of lenghts by Zaidpour. Although many will think they both ran below par, is it possibly they didnt?

If not, the winner must be very, very good.

He actually reminded me a bit of Hardy Eustace - definitely a big player in the Neptune, though that looks one of the most wide open races of the festival. Still prefer So Young myself, assuming he goes for it and dosen't get switched to the Supreme after Zaidpours' bubble was burst.
Report Can't Catch Me February 12, 2011 6:22 PM GMT
Know what you mean Uncle. I thought that was one of the performances of the season so far, and I am not convinced the 2nd and 3rd under achieved that much. I think Neptune seems the obvious one.
Report Steamship February 12, 2011 9:19 PM GMT
Yes I'm with you I saw his last performance and backed him today, I think hes a horse with a big future i will be backing him all the way at Chelt. The one bright spot today.
Report magic carpet February 12, 2011 9:24 PM GMT
Can't help but be really impressed with this horse, hope he proves as effective on better ground,if he does he will be a huge player if turning up at cheltenham
Report Extreme Conviction February 12, 2011 9:40 PM GMT
Very impressed today - have taken some 7s. Should take all the beating.
Report Tucho February 12, 2011 10:17 PM GMT
Wouldn't worry about the ground magic carpet. After his grade 1 win in December Harrington said this "I know the favourite came out, but he couldn't have done it better and Robbie says he hated the tacky ground."

I looked it up on the RP website last week and it put me off backing him today.
Report magic carpet February 12, 2011 10:28 PM GMT
Thanks Tucho i hadn't read this.If he does go on better ground as well as he does on softer ground he will be the one to beat imo
Report Extreme Conviction February 12, 2011 10:32 PM GMT
The Jockey also said today on the RP analysis that he'd be better on quicker ground. If Zaidpour had done that today and was being targeted at the race he'd be 11/4f.
Report olddesperado February 12, 2011 10:37 PM GMT
the ground at navan was almost firm from frost with softish tacky places where it had thawed. 2m 2f on the short side today so you would have to be impressed. However i do agree softish seems to suit.
Report jair1970 February 12, 2011 11:30 PM GMT
Nick Mordin raved about this one after he won the last day; he'd also written up favourably Shot in the Hip, Hidden Universe and to an extent Zaidpour.

So for Oscar's Well to pretty much hammer that lot with ease tells us that he's a class act indeed.
Report Can't Catch Me February 13, 2011 12:59 AM GMT
7's certainly seems generous. I agree with EC's point about the price.

Ah Nick, we do love you Grin

There are excuses for his debut defeat aswell.

Im on Al Ferof for the Neptune but if the signs are good for Oscar in a couple of days, i.e he has come out of the race well, then i'll be a backer.
Report Gashboy13 February 13, 2011 10:01 PM GMT
Should be fav - Achieved much much more than Bob's Worth. Can't understand this market.
Report TheFlyingMuscovite February 14, 2011 1:28 PM GMT
I was very impressed too and think 7/1 represents value. RP reports today that when asked if she was surprised the horse won on the bridle Mrs H replied "No, not at all." All the fancied runners were left behind so the form looks rock solid to me.

Well given my Quel Esprit, Mikael and Zaidpour antepost bets took a r@ping on the weekend I am glad at least one thing went right Happy
Report buddeliea February 14, 2011 6:35 PM GMT
whats your feeling on those 3 now mate with regards to the festival??

not sure we will see any of them myself, but you would probably have a bit more idea.
Report CVByrne February 14, 2011 6:52 PM GMT
Zaidpour will go for the Supreme, think he'll have a shout. Fast run race with the hill to climb. He deserves to go based on what he's done so far.

Mikael can't go to Chelts, he did tire at Leopardstown so he wouldn't stand a chance in the RSA. Slim chance he'll go for the Arkle, can't imagine them going for the World Hurdle with Mourad and 543 going there and Ruby on Big Bucks.

No idea with Quel Esprit, think he might still go for the RSA but it's a shot in the dark with him now. Things haven't gone right for him. He was certainly not out of it before he fell, he stays all day and would have kept finding more all the way to the line. I think he's a good jumper and I think he'll take his chance.

Not putting a cent more on any of them. What's on is on and hopefully they all go.
Report buddeliea February 14, 2011 7:39 PM GMT
Having seen Zaidpour struggling to go with them in a race over further than 2m,just cant see him being able to cope with 2 milers myself mate.
Report BJG February 14, 2011 7:55 PM GMT
Really taken with Oscars Well too but wat about the ground at Chelt for it iyo's??
Report CVByrne February 14, 2011 8:01 PM GMT
Robbie thinks he'll improve for better ground according to Jess, so he still looks good value to me at the current price. Might go in again when it's nrnb
Report Can't Catch Me February 14, 2011 8:09 PM GMT
Alot of Oscar's progeny are pretty versatile. Always a worry until he shows the same level of form, but fancy he will handle it myself.
Report CVByrne February 14, 2011 8:14 PM GMT
Wasn't soft at Navan, it was a pretty frozen track.
Report wellchief February 17, 2011 5:26 PM GMT
There must have been some decent money for this horse over the last 24hrs.

I backed him yesterday at 6's, which was readily available, and now come in everywhere to 5 and 9/2, and 3/1 with Boyles.

I think he has to have a great chance in the Neptune, and he easily looks the most likely winner to me so far.
Report Can't Catch Me February 17, 2011 8:42 PM GMT
Had a decent go at this myself today. Annoyed I missed the 7/1 but taking the 5's before it goes.

The ground is really the only worry I have. Confident he is improving, has the best form in the book, and a trainer who can get him to the race spot on.

Still think 5's will look tremendous value on the day.
Report CVByrne February 17, 2011 9:03 PM GMT
Rather chuffed with my 28's Cool

Though did have Captain Cee Bee last season at 25's, fat lot of good it is unless they win.
Report Can't Catch Me February 17, 2011 9:09 PM GMT
Have to say that is excellent work CVB. Had a few like that myself.... and actually think the buzz of them going off a fraction of the price is brilliant! A win just an added bonus Mischief
Report CVByrne February 17, 2011 9:48 PM GMT
Well he was very impressive winning a grade 1 at fairyhouse and then Jessica said he'd be aimed at Neptune so the price was way too big. Then on a line through fully funded I thought he was better than Hidden Cyclone but didn't go in again after that race at Leop Irish Champion Hurdle meeting.

Also added First Leuitenant when Mouse said he'd go straight to the Neptune last month prior to the hidden cyclone form boost.

Shot from the hip @ 110/1 was my 3rd bet in this race.
Report Can't Catch Me February 17, 2011 9:59 PM GMT
Yeah I have a few beans on Shot from the Hip at 3 figure prices in both this and the Supreme.

They still dont know which race! But I know they were confident of a good run last week and its hard to imagine how they can reverse form with the winner, and JP doesnt have any obvious chnaces in the Supreme.
Report CVByrne February 21, 2011 9:32 PM GMT
Just been reviewing the Neptune there, my word Oscars Well is some horse. I'm tempted to go in again at his current price.
Report sintonian February 22, 2011 12:13 PM GMT
lol CV. I had 2pts on at 5/1 on Sunday.

If anything like 4/1 is available when one or two firms go NRNB next weekend then I will have a serious bet.

This horse would be unbeaten but for keep getting balloted out and thus not being ready for his first race.
Report sintonian February 22, 2011 12:14 PM GMT
i'd also add that if he we trained by Mullins or Nicholls and one two Grade 1's as easily as this horse had he'd be about 5/2.
Report sintonian February 22, 2011 12:14 PM GMT
* won two grade 1s
Report CVByrne February 22, 2011 12:51 PM GMT
Yeah look at so young and the two poor races he's won and he's 7/1. He's only that shorey because he's a mullins horse. We know how they rated zaidpour so we'd have heard if they thought so young was better.

Oscars Well looks a machine.
Report unclepuncle February 22, 2011 2:09 PM GMT
So Young is a bit like Sprinter Sacre and Spirit Son - hasn't betaen anything of note but hasn't broken sweat to do so either. Impossible to weigh him up, but to be fair Cheltenham winners normally have some pretty strong graded form on offer so I'd see Oscars Well as a much more likely winner.

But for all that it then comes down to price and 'value'. At 7/1 each of two it's Oscars Well every day, but at 7/2 and 8/1 it starts to become less clear cut. Same scenario with Cue Card and Sprinter Sacre. Thats why we love the game so muchLaugh
Report Stotsfold February 22, 2011 4:56 PM GMT
Strongly fancy OW for the Neptune - if you feel inclined to do so you can read my thoughts on him here.......

So Young has beat nothing. Oscars Well ticks all the right boxes for a Neptune
Report CVByrne February 24, 2011 8:40 PM GMT
bud Happy

Watch his win at Navan and tell me why that was a 30/1 shot on here until the week of the Deloitte. Especially as Jessica said Neptune was the traget and he'll prefer better ground. Cool
Report buddeliea February 24, 2011 8:46 PM GMT
i know mate,i'm gutted i let him slip under the radar so to speak.Trainer really rates this horse,i could kick myself, and worse of all me bruv got him at nice price, and asked me to place the bet for him!!
THen the horse goes and does that 2 weeks ago.

will back him on the day,but gutted about price missed.

Price is in danger of getting too short. A 7/2 sp would be about right imv.
