How to explain to people at work that i have booked the week off....... and i'm not going, just watching on tv!!
By:
Ill take that rupert dream howdi. Got 12/1 antipost

The longest 5 weeks in history approaches.
By:
Wondering how much the House Champagne is in the Arkle Bar this year !!!
By:
had a really bad dream the other night woke up sweating ,dreamt that i was skint on the tuesday morning of festival and had no ante post bets and couldnt get hold of any cash ,nightmare anything worse ?
By:
The only thing worse, Foyles, would be to wake up an find you had slept through it, and it was Winter Derby morning!
By:
Hardest part just now is stoping myself betting on novices I fancy, telling myself to wait for NRNB.
Al Bundy, so true, not going this year and had that very conversation twice this week. |
By:
Make sure you have your Lincoln/National/Guineas bets on the Monday before the festival as the prices will be shorter the week after due to Mythical(and sometimes not!!) liabilities

By:
people at work just dont understand, gave up trying to explain to the ignorant years ago!!
How on earth someone can sit at their desk when the tapes go up for the Suprmes is quiet frankly totally beyond me |
By:
It is an addiction Budd, that is the truth of it!
By:
Agreed. Never been to the festival, but always take days off, to the confusion of colleagues....."but, you're not going to it"???
I'd have to take a sickie if i didn't get the days off! |
By:
I took a sickie in 1988 from school!! Managed to get the week out of my folks!!
Think that was Mole Boards novice year too! |
By:
addiction it is
which out of the following would you give up last?? curry booze sex cheltenham |
By:
what goes through my mind....
everyday when i check the websites for news as they load im hoping one of my selections isnt the headline with "out for the rest of the season" attached to the story... other than that the usual, daily check of bets, prices, tickets and driving people mad at work by keep shouting "g'wan ya b@stard off you go" at random points of the day..keeps me amused at least ![]() |
By:
First - curry and booze (keep my GP happy)
Second - sex (not sure what Mrs Carver's view would be - don't comment!) Lastly - Cheltenham (much to the chagrin of my bank manager!) |
By:
Would give up sex first, seems like i've done that already
![]() curry booze chelts last ![]() |
By:
im the same as gut feeling.releived that when i look at the rp website with a hand over one eye and the other one squinting in the fear of seeing "out for the season" or setback next to one of my ante posts bets but alas its some other poor punters bets.
By:
I dreamt Master Minded and Cee Bee battling away clear in the Champion Chase. Don't know who won though.

By:
Reverse forecast it is then!!!
By:
maybe im getting old or been to too many chelt fests ( 26) but i often wonder what it would be like sitting in front of the fire watching at home with some good class bubbly...my fav bit now is after the opening day ,retiring to the pub way outside cheltenham and discussing the next day's action .with one of those free sheets of runners they give out on your way to the car park. silly i know .
By:
what goes through your mind now?
Restrict any betting activity to a bare minimum between now and the Festival. Lower grade horses or horses prepping for Cheltenham do not for good punts make. |
By:
I'm thinking what my missus'd say if she stumbled upon the stash of notes that I've got tucked away inside the bookcase.
By:
wondering about the welbeing of Albertas Run in the knowledge that 12/1 will look ridiculous if he rocks up for the Ryanair in Spring like weather.
Gotta wait though. |
By:
Ive been to many a sporting event in my time and nothing comes near the festival. same every year:
- weeks thinking about the races - nerves week before - big day arrives - 5 sharp pints in the Best Mate enclosure dancing to Abba tribute band - Races start and my mate aftertimes after every race ![]() |
By:
wonder if your friend posts on here howdi and under what name
![]() |
By:
Im thinking the following
1. Grand crus wont see which way Big Bucks went. Evens with VC 2. The best juvenile form by a mile/ish is Cue Cards Cant wait |
By:
''2. The best juvenile form by a mile/ish is Cue Cards''
[smiley:crazy] [smiley:crazy] |
By:
Had my first dream about it the other night. Was an odd one, as its never been one of my favourite races. Grands Crus ran away with the Stayers, and I think Big Bucks was unplaced!
By:
Keep my "powder dry" & "tighten my belt" until NRNB become properly available.
By:
Bl00dy hell, Howdi! Five sharp pints? I hope you've done your bets ante-post and don't find yourself taking a nonchalant approach after that quick session. I learned my lesson regarding drink when Detroit City won his Triumph. No big price I know, but was my banker of the week and I told everyone else as much. Cue a few beers beforehand and an overly optimistic attitude regarding queueing time for the Tote and I missed my bet!
For me, I always spend a good hour or so finalising a placepot perm (had some joy over the years) and then have a pint in the ****ss village when that one has been placed. Am already thinking of that moment now! |
By:
Cheltenham Thoughts - what goes through your mind now
Let's hope it's not a bullet when you realise you've $punk£d your ante-post bets up the wall on no hopers and non-runners and the Landlord is outside brandishing a 12-Bore (not Mayweather; the shotgun) |
By:
wo,nt be going this year but have the week off as usual watch on the telly ,ante post bets all in place , kids at school wife at work phone off the hook ,racing post ,raceform cheltenham betting guide on hand dont answer the door to any callers ,lets hope betfair is running smoothly, hills bookies 2 mins walk away what more could you ask for
By:
i dunno how u can not be going, i cudnt be newere else than at chelt for the whole week!
By:
FOYLESWAR
That sounds mostly good as long as you have RUK and "the kids", are either on detention or have after school club. Oh yes, as for "the wife", encourage the good lady to work overtime. GL |
By:
Going through my mind is, how can i get there this year? Shall i go for 1 day or more or watch on tv as i have every year bar 2005.
By:
Have I got the bottle to lump on Dunguib in the Coral, will they slash it when it goes NRNB,by how much? Will the trainer, take the easy money as he is being pressured by the owners to do so.I think he will,am I going mad,yes probably.Do I love it,Double deffo.
Does anybody have any answers? |
By:
You haven`t had a winner in my dreams either Hickster
You did get mugged by Gypsies outside the Queens though. |
