Binocular. With Overturn setting the quick pace and Bino guaranteed to be 110% fit in March I cannot see him losing his crown. I think the race on Saturday was very true and telling. Starluck was off the bridle a long way out for him. Khyber was given a very tough seasonal debut. Overturn is far better than the odds suggest.

Hurricane Fly is the NAP of the decade and has class and speed beyond any of his opposition and for all the cue card fans on here-you will get your fingers burnt backing against Zaidpour,he is a steal at 8/1 against cue card who has nothing to offer at the end of his races, all he does is travel like a superstar then finds nothing where as Zaidpour has speed and class to burn. Zaidpour has no course form, no form going left handed, no form that can match the strength of Cue Card's, he has to travel well over from Ireland and deal with atmosphere of the Festival...and you want 8/1 about him!?

Imperial Commander for me also. In fact a Binocular, Big Buck's, Poquelin, IC yankee almost looks tempting (if only it were that simple eh?).
If forced to be a bit more original (though not much!) I'd say Quel Esprit ew in the RSA.

dwn767 MENORAH GO NATIVE CAPTAIN CEE BEE EBAZIYAN NOLAND ARCALIS BRAVE INCA that is the names of the last 7 supreme novice hurdle winners and the only ('ONE') of them that had previous festival or cheltenham form prior to winning it was noland and that was one novice hurdle,so that should pretty much shut your face about festival form and atmosphere you muppet cause it didnt seem to affect them and i guess since 5 out of the 7 were irish they must have travelled over just fine, but thanks for your concern,i shall keep my fingers crossed that the boat does not sink it would be just as easy to pick holes in the rest of your rubbish but your clearly an idiot so i wont waste my time. As for you buddeliea-well you should go back and watch replays of Zaidpours runs and if you cant see the class and ability that is slapping you in the face then you are in the wrong game kid.i would bet that the both of you were spouting the same bull this time last year about Dunguib and we all know what happened there, the difference is that Dunguib is twice the horse ability wise as cue card is,but you will find this out for yourselves on the first day. louse69 and Sflight thank you for your information regarding which race Zaidpour may go for,i do know that mullins favours the neptune but the owner rich ricci loves the speed the horse shows and would like to go for the supreme and ricci always gets the final say with his horses even with mullins advising him differently, they are due to make the final decision after the Deloitte hurdle on feb 6th which is over 2m 2f and is his next run and if he is back to his old self that day and shows plenty of speed then ricci is going for the supreme, nevertheless i have also backed him for the neptune just in case, but am hoping for the supreme as one horse i would not want to take on is Minella Class even though i think Zaidpour has covered, time will tell i guess. One last thing dwn767 and buddeliea, since you are both to stupid to read racing form i will do it for you and advise you both to back FLAT OUT for the Arkle chase at leopardstown on sunday, you can still get 7/2 with most firms and this (another of mullins stars) will bolt up! you can thank me after the race if you are smart enough to back him

I apologise buddeliea,i should not have included you with the nonsense that dwn767 was spouting, but i will say re zaidpour and flat out,it is not what they beat, but how they did it and the impression they made doing it and its now you should be taking advantage as you will not be getting the sort of prices again after they prove what they are, which is very very serious horses,i cant help the races zaidpour has run in and in my opinion, had he run in that race, for sure he would have been at worst a good second to menorah and that also was not SC's true running, races came to quick and he is much better than that and cue card,my opinion on cue card is very strong and that is that as i said he has nothing to offer at the end of his races and i am certain that there will be horses in the supreme that will have to much speed at the end of the race for him come march, regardless of weather zaidpour is in the race or not

Hurricane Fly 5/1 NAP Flat Out 20/1, now 14/1 Cue Card 5/2
Luckily i got a bit of 20/1 on Flat Out in my doubles and treble on the above on Monday. I went to top up these doubles the next day and found Hills had cut Flat Out to 14s. Damn It. I presume this is because he is due to run on Sunday and no other reason? Anyone got any other news?
Hurricane Fly is an absolute beast. He gets 2m4f so the hill won't be a worry, He's beaten the 6x Grade1 winning hurdler Solwhit easily over 2m4f and over 2m twice. Awesome speed and will be even better on good ground but has shown he can handle soft! The only concern would be injury as he has missed the last two festivals. Even if you don't fancy HF, imo last year's novices pose the biggest threat. I respect Menorah but think he is over-rated, considering Supreme Novice winners have a poor record in the next year's Champion and the fact the Greatwood form isn't really working out with only 1 winner (which was in fact Menorah)and 3 placed efforts from the subsequent 15 runs. Menorah was however very impressive when beating Cue Card and Silviniaco Conti, but is that form good enough to win a Champion?? I have no doubt that CC and SC will be class horses in the future! But beating two novices isn't great champion form?
The biggest threat will come from the unbeaten Peddler's Cross who has already showed plenty of guts when beaten the reigning champion Binocular by over 7 lengths. He is versatile having won at Aintree, Cheltenhma and Newbury. And he has proven festival form, with the winners of the Neptune having a good record in the Champion in recent years
The last 4 champion hurdles have been somewhat substandard. The contenders for the 2010 Champion Hurdle have had 33 runs since - 6 winners, 7 places, 20 unplaced efforts. The 2009 Champion Hurdle contenders have had 121runs since - 15wins, 23 place, 83unplaced efforts. 2008 champion - 82runs, 20win, 14placed, 48unplaced. 2007 Champion - 43runs since - 5wins, 15placed, 23unplaced!
Any thoughts

wanna be pro.... not wanting to argue, just an objective point of view.... i dont think hurricane fly is a bad horse, and not saying he couldnt be the best around and win the champion hurdle.... but solwhit may have won alot of grade 1s, but is himself not a 2 miler, and arguably not even of the top class. what has hurricane fly beaten? merely solwhit, donna's palm, sublimity and the like, with solwhit having also beaten the lesser horses. couldnt write off a horse without seeing it in the top races, and does look mighty impressive constantly winning on the bridle, but how many of the top 2 milers would do the same against that lesser opposition? could you be comfortable on at such a short price and as a nap on a horse that has only really beaten solwhit, hasnt run at cheltenham, has history of injuries etc?

Good point about the questions that hang over HF and questioning how i could nap him! But that is why he is still 5/1 and not 7/4F. I just think 5/1 is an unbelievable price and i hope he proves it come March.
His 10L beating of Go Native was scintillating and Go Notive went off favourite for last years Champion and could of won the Betfair Million Bonus!
Unfortunately i would disagree about Solwhit. 5 of his 6 Grade 1s were at 2m. And he has also beaten Punjabi, Celsetial Halo, Sizing Europe (who would have won the 08 Champion imo), Quevega, Voler La Vedette, FiveforThree, and finished in front of Binocular in the Fighting Fifth (granted that race was run at a crawl, which would not suit).
Good to hear an objective point of view. When you hear the negative's, it helps to keep your feet on the ground. As i think many punters (myself included) blind themselves from the truth of form as they fall in love with certain horses.

quevega, voler la vedette, fiveforthree, celestial halo... i dont class any of those as top 2 milers tbh. as for go native form, he got smashed in the champion hurdle. and in the races building up to that, take starluck (who has won only 1 half decent 2 mile hurdle) and binocular (who we all know ran nowhere near to form before champion hurdle last year) out of the xmas hurdle and what did he beat? and in the fighting fifth he beat a 9 year old sublimity who had won 1 race since the 2007 cheltenham festival, and solwhit who i have said i dont rate as a top class 2 miler. and the race before that he lost to voler la vedette who hasnt won a 2 mile race since.... again only my opinion, and i have seen nothing to suggest hurricane fly isnt top class, has been very impressive cruising to victory on the bridle, but just cant agree that he is top class until he justifies it against the best around (again, none of this is meant to sound arsey and apologies if it does)

Go Native was actually injured in last years Champion and so you can put a line through that run. The fact is HF has beaten him twice by 10L and 9L. Go Native is top class having also won a Supreme Novice. In my opinion the only reason you don't rate Solwhit is because of last years Champion Hurdle run? Connections did express ground concerns the day before the Champion if i remember correctly? I don't particularly want to try and keep defending the older horses form, as i think the novices from last year and HF & Go Native's year are far better?
But if you look at Solwhit's career. He has 9 wins from 16 starts, 6 Grade 1 wins, 1 Grade 2 and a listed win. In the 7 starts he was beaten in - one was his debut, the next he was beaten 1/2 length by Ninetieth Minute and there were many reports that a couple of stable lads had layed him to lose that day? Although not proven i would like to add. He then won his next 4 races, including 3 G1's and a G2. His next defeat was in the Fighting Fifth to Go Native, in which the race was not run to suit. Then apart from last years 6th in the Champion when connections expressed concerns beforehand, he has then finished 2nd to HF three times. Solwhit is a top class hurdler and a top 2m hurdler as well. I'm not saying he is a great 2m hurdler, far from it, but over the last 2 years Solwhit has proven one of the best 2m hurdlers around! It's was just the case that the 2m division between 2007 - 2010 was weak? Imo
With all this talk, can't wait for the festival!!!!! Role on March

no i dont particularly rate solwhit as i couldnt name many top 2 milers he has beaten? solwhit has proven one of the top 2 miler hurdlers IN IRELAND i think is the key point, i just dont think there is much (or any aside form HF) competition, similar to the 3m hurdle division here which (and i do rate him as top class) big bucks tears up every race :) i think solwhit has been the best of a weak bunch, like david haye in the heavyweight division (for want of a better analogy) and i wouldnt say HF has to beat binocular to be believed in, just be nice to see him run against likes of binocular, peddlers etc when they run to their true capability, and not underperform. and i agree, buzzing beyond belief for the festival, especially with the next few weekend's worth of big meetings im off to :D cant wait!!

imo,PC,Bino and Menorah to name 3,would all thrash Solwhit these days. Just cannot have the Irish form on mostly soft or heavy ground run with no pace against sub standard 2m hurdlers at all. Not to say HF is not good enough to win the CH(he really could be anything),but just saying the Irish form is pretty much useless when looking at the winner of the CH.Completely different conditions in March, unless its a slow run race on soft or heavy ground of course!!

I'll rise above your childish remarks TheFormMan, with ease!
I will however state my point again, in that all you claim to know about Zaidpour is pure assumption. The facts are that Cue Card has far superior form, and has answered in style all the questions Zaidpour will have to answer on the day! If you want to take the current price about him doing so, please do...it'll help keep Cue Card's price backable for those of us who don't like to guess at this game!

Time for Rupert is banker material i think, he is a proper course specialist as well.
I also really like Punchestown for the Gold Cup, had a small nibble ew at 25s. There are questions marks about so many of the field. Was IC's performance at Haydock really that impressive? Tidal Bay finished a length and a half behind all be it IC being wound down. Surely this make Tidal Bay a good outside bet for the gold cup based on that peformance?

very unlikely I would say, already won over the Coral trip at Cheltenham and related to a gold cup winner so he will end up over a trip. Henderson already said that he is a saying chaser in the making, so I would be amazed of they go for the County.

Cue Card all the way baby! His run behind Menorah really is a sensational mark for a novice. If he runs to that on March 15 it is hard to see anything bettering it (especially as the opposition this year does not seem to be amounting to anything out of the ordinary).

Cue Card desperately slow over 2 miles, another ridiculous comment from dananders
Cue Card is pitched in at a high level on only his third start over hurdles and travels like the best horse throughout much of the race, and denied only by Supreme winner and top weight Greatwood winner Menorah. The same Menorah who hasn't a change of gear yet seemingly finds more and more for pressure.
Can somebody give me a piece of form that comes close to this for a 2m novice hurdler this season please?
cheers

Sounds wierd to be even considering a handicap as a betting mediaum at this stage but Sunnyhillboy for The Wm Hill H'cap on the Tuesday looks plausible.
I think this has been plotted up for this Festival and the Wm Hill looks a plausible target. Jonjo has a good record in this race, the horse has Festival form, having come second to Great Endeavour in the Festival Plate last season and it's owned by JP McManus. Been put away since coming third to Poquelin in the **** and unexposed at 3 miles.
Unfortunately, the early markets both here and with the High St bookies seem to have worked this out too

i now think silviniaco conti is possibly the bet of the festival in terms of bet-to-lay!!! will a horse with ruby walsh onboard at cheltenham festival, as nicholls only runner in a championship race, go off at 45/1....? somehow i cant see it!

Just look at the form of the run at the Paddy Power meeting... beaten by Grands Crus, yet 11 lengths clear of the third. Likes of Hidden Keel (ran really well in novice chases next twice) and Lush Life (won big hcap at chelts nto) were beaten miles and it just looks the best handicap of the season.
Ran next in the Challow, but wasn't fit for the race, Nick Williams said he had missed vital pieces of work during the big freeze period. He ran like that was exactly the case, absolutely cruised through ... then went into the fog.. came out of it, beaten 10 lengths! Apparently the jockey said he just blew up after looking the winner. The form of that race is hot as well with Al Ferof and Court In Motion both winning next time v impressively.
He's trained by Nick Williams and is still a 6 year old, so is an obvious type to progress as well.
Now, I'm not going balls deep until confirmed a runner, so this is a bit hypothetical, but i really hope they go this way.

Just said pretty much the same on the Grand Crus thread TD do you think he could possibly go for the 2m5f novice hurdle at the festival or do you think the handicap mark is just too good to resist and they will go for the coral cup?

To be honest, I don't know where he's going to turn up, but the Coral Cup would be my guess (plus there's been a bit of money for him for the race, 20/1 was available couple of days ago)
I was surprised they went for the Challow, I thought they would go for a handicap after his run at Cheltenham, so maybe Nick Williams sees him as a genuine Grade 1 horse ? He's not listed in the bookies list for the Neptune though.....

Cue Card would rate a maximum bet for the Neptune on day 2, this horse has a real blend of speed and stamina with (imo) stamina being the strong suit, if you watch the International again all the horse is doing in the closing stages is staying and an extra 1/2 mile is what it's crying out for. Not saying it can't win the Supreme but not for me at 5/2 and I've nibbled big prices for The Neptune in the hope connections come round to that way of thinking. Any NRNB would be maximum time.
For what it's worth I've stuck a NRNB treble on big 3 winners of last year Binocular, BZ & IC and still think it's a decent bet.
