Anyone got any cunning fancies for any of the handicaps at the Festival.

Think Oh Crick might be of interest in the Grand Annual again.

agree roger, hes starting to looking interesting again but Im not sure if he is good enough anymore. If he was mine I would be looking more towards the race he won at Aintree.

Yeah - price is everything though.

Think he showed enough at Sandown last time and he should be better on better ground. I agree re Aintree but he obviously has C&D form at the festival and I think connections will be swayed by 'The Cheltenham Factor'

Im pretty sure he will run at Chelts just think that race will be to competative. If he runs a decent race he will go in my book for Aintree.

Confirm to me the decs / weights for Aintree are set before Chelts aren't they?

Not sure about the entries but pretty sure the weights won't be set for Aintree until after Cheltenham (Grand National apart)

Oh Crick is a horse I've followed since his Grand Annual win and clearly his form last year suffered as a result of whatever was wrong with Kings yard.

Just looked through his form and the handicapper seems to love moving him up and down, it really seems incredible

He was 148 at the start of the year, a mark that seemed to have mileage in it given his progressive profile.

However, he was upped 7lbs for being well beaten by Twist Magic at Ascot.  Seemed harsh given that he was beaten miles out and just plugged on.

He was then raised 8lbs for finishing well beaten in the Champion Chase, plugging on again but never being in the race at any point.  So up to 160 over the season despite being well beaten in every start!!

Down to a more workable mark now, especially as King is firing but I normally look for low weights in the Grand Annual who have a terrific record.

Agree re lower weights / less exposed horses but I just think this one is coming to the boil now. He has been stuffed out of sight by the handicapper and I guess King had no option but to run him in level weight contests, for which he just doesn't have the class, but with his mark at a more manageable level (IMO), King's stable in better form this season and (hopefully) some sun on his back in the spring, he's still got another handicap victory in him.

But like I said, price is everything.

do you think that he may benefit from a step up in trip?  Seems to stay on in his races these days and gets outpaced mid race (although this may just be the class of race he's been running in).

Festival Plate perhaps?
