He needs better ground and will be in the Arkle with a great chance when the going improves imo. Beaten twice by the Arkle fav into 2nd he has a great chance come March. As with Binocular, think ground with him, he will improve a great deal on quicker Festival ground.

Thanks, this thread just further adds to the confusion...

Well he's been outpaced in his 2 runs before staying on.
Report eric_morris January 12, 2011 8:32 PM GMT
He needs better ground as the trainer has stated. Binocular has been getting outpaced also I suppose?
Report eric_morris January 12, 2011 8:35 PM GMT
He is currently the most under-estimated horse in the race and will find lengths for better ground. Has a tremendous finish if he can travel on rather than through the ground as he has been doing. To his credit he has finished strongly on ground he isnt effective on so far, he will bounce off it in March and preserve his kick for the hill imo.

Here goes the know all.

So your one of these that listen's to the gospel of the trainers? Trainer's are probably worth listening to only 30-40% of the time.

I'm not so sure, yes the form book says 3 wins whens he had good ground...The dam loved the mud however (even though she was by Strong Gale), it just lloks like he's come up against better horses at the trip.

WTF's Binocular got to do with this?
Report eric_morris January 12, 2011 8:50 PM GMT
No, I use my own eyes however if the trainer is of the same opinion seeing the horse every day it can only be good.
Report eric_morris January 12, 2011 8:52 PM GMT
Binocular is a much more able horse on better ground, it isnt that he needs further than 2 miles it is that he is quicker than others when the ground improves.
Report rhinestone January 12, 2011 8:57 PM GMT
I know Binocular is better on better ground, who doesn't?

When he's had soft conditions he's weakened tamely a couple of times in the ground.

When CC has had a bit of cut, he's still finished his races off strongly, one of which was at 2m 2 1/2 f.

As I said, to his credit he hasnt given up on the ground which means when he travels on the top of it in the Arkle he will battle as he has a great attitude but this time he will also be travelling on it ready to use his kick at the close up the hill. There are quite a few wont be finishing up the hill like him. We can agree to disagree on this.

Good Luck, what price you backed him at?
Report Alvarado January 13, 2011 12:14 AM GMT
horses who suffer with there breathing like CC cant cope on bad ground hence why he looks like hes getting outpaced when in truth he cant breath whe asked to quicken trust me this horse is 10lb better going right handed a tilt at the pendil over 2m4f at kempton then punchestown on good ground
Report Temlett January 13, 2011 12:34 AM GMT
Binocular needs a strong gallop and better ground and he only gets these conditions on rare occasions.

When they go a crawl and the ground is softer, Binocular looks vulnerable.

I would expect that he will struggle on Saturday, but it will not make a jot of difference to his chances in March.

Any further clues, drifting for the Arkle...
Report tweedledumbtweedletwat January 20, 2011 7:54 PM GMT
is it not important that cc will be giving away a length at most fences due to the fact that he jumps rh?
