Being a resident of Chelters.... everytime I visit a restaurant/hotel/eatery I'm gunna write a quick report to hopefully give the visitors in March a quick guide on where to go and where to avoid.
On New years day I joined the rest of the family at Zizzi's. A massive restaurant that sits in an old Church conversion in Suffolk square (approximately two minute's walk from the Queens hotel).
The restaurant is very clean and modern. The Menu is Italian. Lots of pasta dishes and obviously Pizzas.
The food was ok. Nothing outstanding but by no means poor. You know what you are going to get at these chain restaurants. Average prices were in the region of 8 - 10 pounds for a main with a dessert at half that. Service was VERY QUICK considering the room was 3/4 full.
This is the kind of place where a big group could easily be accommodated but also ideal for taking a partner or friend.
Overall - Very pleasant and convenient to get to.

Various restaurants in the brewery.
For those who hav'nt been the brewery is a small arcade with Cineworld and some restauarants and a few shops located in the town centre.
The nicest of the eateries imo would be Prezzo ( there is also a Prezzo on the promenade but the one here is a lot better ). Much like Zizzi's the theme is Italian and again the food and service is good.
You've also got a Nando's which is pretty simple stuff but I've always been satisfied there....
There is a Mexican place called Chiquito's. Now this would be on my list of places to avoid. I took the girlfriend there a few weeks back. We had to wait almost 50 minutes for our food and when it came it was overcooked and just very lifeless. The table next to me were also unhappy so I don't think it was an isolated incident. They serve burgers and chicken and various so called ' mexican food' ( wraps and stuff like that ). Its very expensive for what you actually get and as I say - not the place to go.
There is also an all you can eat chinese called ' the real china' in the brewery. I've yet to visit but from what i've heard its pretty standard stuff.

from what i hear the poster ftm is always a fan of the appletree inn in woodmancote.

I've eaten there many times tweedle, though not last yr, and its not bad. Big car park too. Nice pub with decent beer.
from what im told its good craic in there so il def try it this year..
what an interesting thread this could well end up
been to the appletree once nice pub but was to busy for us to get any food.
Got a fantastic breakfast roll about 4 years ago in that green halfway up the road towards the racecourse coming from the town. Cured the hangover 
Which is the best Chinese restaurant and also is there somewhere to get a nice fillet steak in Cheltenham, not outside.
abbott,if your going there ftm will get you sorted for food...the lardarse loves the place!
We always book a table at the Mayflower(chinese) on gold cup day.Bit pricey but never been dissapointed

There is a place at the lower end of the High Street called Bar & Wok. I have never been there but every time I walk past it is full of Chinese eating. They have a website I think - worth a look.
As for a steak in town, you might struggle for a decent one. Just on the outskirts, only 10-15 minute walk from centre, a pub/restaurant called The Hewlett is good: been there plenty of times myself, but you will need to book.

Good places for a fry up - the old restoration at the top of the high st. 2 quid for a bacon roll and a cuppa or just 3.50 for a full english. Also the best pub in town if you like real ale. They do a dozen real ales and the place has been redecorated under the new management. Its very comfortable.

Disappointed Curry Corner hasnt had a mention yet 
For a decent steak, its always rammed over the Festival, but normally had a good steak in Petit Blanc on the side of the Queens. The best meal we had last year was probably in Vanilla.

Cheers lads, is that Bar & Wok quite new? Never seen it before. Looks from the map like it's between the Burger King and Hogs Head area?
Its on the lower high st rhinestone.... a few hundred yards from burger king and hogs head.
