Desert Orchid (who ran in dawn runs champion hurdle I think) won gold cup. Danoli ran in both.

Hi Jimnast.
I think night nurse tried his hand to no avail in the Gold Cup

Too many good horse go chasing after their novice hurdle days so few actually take their chance in the champion hurdle. Peddlers cross could be one though. you never know

Marvellous horse. So game - can't think of a tougher mare. Abiity wise we have only really seen Azian Maze come close since (and she wasnt that close) or perhaps Lady Rebecca?

Dawn Run in a league of her own.

CV - Peddlers might indeed be the one. Given that there has only been one it makes it unlikely there will be another, and like you say its probably less tried now than ever.

A really unique achievement you have to say only added to by the fact that Dawn run was a mare. Will never, ever forget the run from the last to the line. She beat some real good ones as well.

Night Nurse came close. Highest ever Timeform rated hurdler and second in 1981 Gold Cup to his stablemate Little Owl: Silver Buck (the following years winner) in third.
Report jimnast December 22, 2010 2:12 PM GMT
dessie doent really count to qualify you have to have won the champion hurdle,as night nurse and celtic shot did.

Report Panto Prince December 22, 2010 9:57 PM GMT

Report saxon farm December 23, 2010 12:06 AM GMT
Bula and Lanzarote both tried in the '70s.
Report zilzal1 December 23, 2010 1:33 AM GMT
Was Captain Christy the only one to do it the other way round. ie get placed in the champion hurdle and then win a gold cup??

Its remarkable that he did it one year after his Champion hurdle place
Report thefly10 December 23, 2010 1:40 AM GMT
Peddlers Cross could very well match this feat.
Report downallstar December 24, 2010 5:15 PM GMT
Sizing Europe should've been gearing up for that double this year. Cry
Report CVByrne December 24, 2010 5:39 PM GMT
Never would've beat Katchit that day. Best day ever by about 600,000,000 miles. Never to be topped ever.
Report downallstar December 24, 2010 9:07 PM GMT
Katchit must rate as one of thee worst ever CH winners.
