ascot gold cup horse imo. he doesnt like fences
|
|
By:
How come he can get over fences quick enough when motoring at the end but looks a stuttering stiff during the rest of the race?
|
|
By:
i dont think hes a good jumper even when hes motoring

Grand national beckons. Has class and stamina in abundance and will thrive just being hunted along until they hit the Melling road and then picking them up 1 by 1 and winning with a bit left in the locker.

He'll win something and he'll win something big one day :(
|
|
By:
He may run on into a place but I don't give him a prayer of winning.
I never remember a horse who jumps as badly as he does winning a Gold Cup. |

everyone sed the same before the arkle in 2008

well said avarado, and i do agree with you too yaboya.
Well my fingers are crossed, i only need a place really as ive had enough on in big priced ew doubles that have won and placed. I just think that Tidal hasnt been put into his races yet , i do understand that the hose has a quirk , however , i thing the 3m21/2 f plus the stronger pace will see him at is best. I actually think Brian Hughes has got to the bottom of the horse and is understanding its quirks day by day. you can even see today in the last 100 metres its head actually strated to lower rather than being so high up....good sign. |

By:
What he needs in March is a low sun with the fences up the home straight dolled off and boggy ground down the back straight so the fences along there are dolled off too.

I think Tidal Bay is a decent 3-miler (he's only run the trip 4 times in chases; 2nd & 3rd in the Cotswold, 2nd in the Betfair, and 2nd in the Rowland Meyrick, his 1st attempt at the trip), probably rating around 165. Ten years ago, that rating would have been good enough to win him a Gold Cup, but not in recent years. There's no reason to suspect that last years 1st & 2nd are not 170+ horses; and it's likely Kauto Star is still capable of 170+. I don't rate Long Run a 170+ horse yet, but he's only a 6yo and improving.
What is interesting about this years Gold Cup is that it is very likely going to be run as an absolute stamina/speed test, with Denman, Midnight Chase and Neptune Collonges fighting for the lead from the off. We know Kauto does not like being bullied, but if Walsh can settle him behind those 3 then he may come down the hill with a rattle. The scene is being set for a long-odds 3rd placed horse - but which one will it be? We all know that the Gold Cup trip takes no prisoners, and once exhaustion steps in horses stop very quickly no matter how good they are. |

Not a chance in the GC surely?? The horse has real ability and will improve but,if the ground comes up soft/good to soft the pace the likes of Neptune/Denman and possibly Midnight chase could go will make this a brutal brutal test most especially down the back straight when Denman starts taking a length out of the field each jump. I just cannot see his jumping staying together when they are all "at it"
Slightly off topic but the ground will surely decide the race as if IC and Kauto can keep tabs and keep settled anything approaching good ground would surely set this up for the partially held up horse. |
