Wymott RSA Chase 16/1

Absolutely in 100% agreement. His form over hurdles is very good... jumped efficiently , quickly and accurately lto. Staying is his game and he looks like fences could make a man outta him particularly the strenuous RSA chase which takes a hell of alot of stamina to win. He should hack up tomorrow with Adams Islands the only danger

Had vowed not to get involved ante post this season after some horror no shows last festival but I have backed Wymott too.

Hoping for a big performance tomorrow.

Big fan of the horse, but at this stage I think MdH and Time for Rupert look like being exceptionally good horses. This fella is going to have to do alot to put himself in their category imo

anyone of you think quickish ground may be his undoing? was entered at chelt on sat in the 3m novice chase won by time for rupert the only reason i can think of why they gone exeter instead wolud be the guickish ground at chelt saturday as why pass up the opportunity to get valuable chelt experience

He jumps great. Had to work hard for that today. But Exeter can be quite a test. It was not easy for Royal Charm earlier either.

Looks a great staying prospect and will definitely win plenty races but he looks already like he will be suited by some give and maybe more than 3m. Not sure he quite has the class for an RSA of MdH, TFR and a few others though.

Wymott and Wayward Prince are my 2 bets for the race. My only ante post bets for Chelt 2011. I know Time For Rupert has better form so far but Wymott has not been seriously tested yet.

Saw Wymott at Bangor for his chase debut. Much more impressive there than at Exeter, so my jury is out on whether he will need cut and an even greater test of stamina than might be the case in the RSA.

Liked the look of Jessies Dream the other day, on ground that wouldn't have been ideal. All the hype about MD, JD could be one to creep under the radar a bit. But Time for Rupert looks a more than worthy favourite.

I honestly dont think Jessie's Dream would, all jumping well, have any chance of beating Mikael in the RSA. Mikael was going so within himself before he knuckled it was unreal cant remember seeing a horse gallop so effortlessly and within himself for a long time as MDH.

Is he to classy to run in the 4m race ?  He looks like he could gallop all day long.

Wasnt as impressive at Exeter as he was at Bangor 1st time up.

Thought he showed his inexperience a lot whereas Rupert has looked thoroughly professional from his initial fencing debut and looks a worthy and formidable favourite.

I bottled making any early bets on this race because I couldn't split Wymott, TFR and Quel Esprit. I can't say I find splitting them much easier now, but this fellow has to be the pick of the prices. I'd just love to know for sure (like everyone else) exactly what Mullins' plan is for Mikael before I get involved. Come the start of March that could still be up in the air though!

I agree that Wymott seemed to waver a bit on the run in at Exeter but that is a very tiring finish and the second was getting a stone and could be quite good. Wymott probably blew up a bit and Jason would have been trying to give him an easy race. It was the effortless way he went clear 3 out that impressed me.

Looks like I spoke just too soon regarding Mikael. Apparently the Gold Cup is also an option. FFS. I'm fed up with talk of novices taking on the senior ranks.

That is why I have backed Wymott, I think the RSA will be his target. If he is not good enough to run in the race he wouldn't win it anyway.

agree sageform. 100% this is his target, he wasnt overly impressive the other day but he jumped well enough and I feel he will improve again.

I backed him e/w for the RTSA at 25/1 before his race at Bangor and was impressed with that and his Exeter run, think he'll only improve here on in.

In McCains Stable Tour of Wymott he said :- I’ve never had an RSA Chase horse but if ever I’m going to have one this could be it

So it turns out the form his last  run wasnt all that bad in the end.

It was such a shame about Pevril.... i did think that the Nick Williams horse was well in contention despite jumping badly...

Wymott is becoming more and more attractive by the day ...form of his wins have been rock solid

Adams Island (3rd in the Exeter race) won on Wednesday at Doncaster and Silver Kate (in 4th) won at Chepstow on Welsh National day. That now means 2nd, 3rd and 4th behind Wymott have all come out of the race and won and add to that Tarablaze who was 3rd behind him at Bangor. With Peveril very sadly leaving us today, this will be Hemmings' RSA horse and everyone knows McCain's horses somehow still go overpriced. With Kauto failing today and Long Run still a questionable Cheltenham horse, maybe Time For Rupert's connections will consider the Gold Cup this year. At the current prices he is a very attractive bet.

Even if TFR stays RSA this is still the e/w bet of the race.
Unlike most Novice Chasers this season he will def be going for the race and after his next run I think he may go clear 2nd fav.

His last hurdle race last season at Haydock, he beat Wayward Prince. Again the form stacks up. TFR worthy favourite, but at the prices Wymot's for me.

Wymott getting weight from everything tomorrow, has to win this to be a realistic RSA contender?

peddlers cross, wymott, glenwood knight and tornado bob all have chances though. well, peddlers should really walk it, and would expect at least 1 of the other 3 to go in, if not more

Think he will win and if he does it will show his class as 2m4f should be a bit short in my mind.

Should win this comfortably getting the weight not the greatest of oppo to him here.

Id take wishfull thinking over the nicholls horse in a match bet.

He looks the most likely winner, wishful thinking looks like a horse that is improving with racing. The 2m4f doesnt bother me at all, he travels so well.

Been a strange year for novices, they all seem to be running out of races before cheltenham.

Yes just 7 weeks to Cheltenham only a few weeks left to get a run in. The likes of Wymott and Mikael D'Haguenet need match practise badly.

Personally i think Wymott jumps well enough already, but lots of novices are lacking needed experience in the lead up to cheltenham.

Agree which is also dangerous, going from little practise on slow ground to hell for leather pace on quickish Festival ground on an undulating tiring track.

Donald McCain's exciting prospect Wymott will put his unbeaten record on the line in the £20 Punters Package 11th February Novices' Chase at Bangor on Friday.

The seven-year-old earned a rating of 148 over hurdles and there is every reason to believe he will be better still over the larger obstacles.

He has done little wrong in his two starts over fences at Bangor and Exeter and while he had engagements in Graded company this weekend, McCain feels tomorrow's race is an ideal opportunity for his charge.

"He had a couple of options this weekend but I know Bangor are going to produce ground I want to run on," said McCain.

"They make a fantastic job of the ground there and our job is to get him to Cheltenham in top form, so tomorrow looks a good opportunity to get a run into him.

"There's only three runners and it's a competitive little race, but we'll get him out and hopefully then get him home in one piece.

"I would imagine the RSA Chase will be the race for him at Cheltenham, but we'll see."

Wymott's rivals are Emma Lavelle's Bouggler, who was rated exactly the same over hurdles, and the Nicky Henderson-trained Rackham Lerouge, a facile winner at Towcester last time.

I'm on Wymott for the RSA but do not like the idea of thim in the race tomorrow.  With only 3 runners it could all go wrong with a falsely run race becoming a tactical affair....if they want to learn anything they will have to go a pace rather than plod round the first circuit and it turn into a sprint.

Will need to win this pretty impressively if Chelts is to remain an option imo. Looks a good shorty to me today though

Some weak trials this weekend including this one and also Wayward Prince in the Towton, connections not risking defeat unlike the novice chase at Sandown with Captain Chris, Medermit and co which is an absolute corker.

They seem to be sticking to 2.5 miles but he looks a stayer. The opposition today are no mugs so if he wins well giving them weight it will not harm his chance at Chelts.

Bring on the RSA.

Quite impressed again despite a couple of mistakes. Beating Bouggler by that far and giving 4lb is very good. Has tactical pace and should be much better over 3 miles.

He's beaten some good horses but only at the gaff tracks like they said on WH radio TFR has not beaten much better but he's done it at Cheltenham. This horse is not flashy but there is a lot more to come. McCain said in his stable tour the horse is still playing around. 3m round Cheltenham I am struggling to find three who'll stay better than him. 16/1 ew is very big after three wins against decent animals.

just seen the race,looked to make hard work of that to me,wont be having any of my hard earned on him.not impressed at all to be honest.

I was quite impressed. He seems to get the job done and definitely idles a bit when he's on his own.I'd be a bit worried about the possibility of fastish ground at the festival. He looks like a horse who might be best with some give.The price is tempting though.

I thought that it was a decent performance.Stamina looks Wymotts forte which as many before have said will play to his strengths in the rsa.As Hussard said "i am struggling to find three who'll stay better than him",that hits the nail perfectly for me too,decent ew value in my eyes

wont see where TFR went if ground has any good in it.

Don't underestimate Bouggler. He has better basic speed than Wymott, is flat bred, has much more race experience and was rated equal on Hurdle form. Despite that Wymott beat him by about 16lb.

I'd think the chances of the ground being heavy on rsa day would be slim

Giving the 148 rated Bouggler 4lbs and a 10L beating over a distance 4f to short for him this was a top class performance.

I'm on at 16's and was quite impressed today.IMO there is lots to like about this fellow....stamina,jumping ability,likable attitude and not so devoid of pace as some seem to feel.As far as I can see,the only negatives are the possibility of fast ground(although he did win a Bumper on officially good ground) and perhaps more importantly not having any previous experience of Cheltenham.

having watched TFR,i cannot have that yesterday as top class,each to their own.thought both horses were struggling a fair bit some way out to be honest

Horses that can win decent races over 2.5 miles on a tight track are not slow. I would be more worried about Wymott not staying in a fast run rsa but I hope he will. Because he has not turned up in a top class race, there will be doubters, and there is no doubt that Time For Rupert is the better horse on form but the prices reflect that. Wayward Prince is my other ante post bet for the rsa and we will find out today how good he is.

Wayward Prince made hard work of it but still won giving weight. Another compliment to Wymott from their hurdle days. I am very happy with these two at 18.5 and 19 against the favourite.

Wasnt impressed with Wayward Prince today he was niggled well out and will be meeting way better opponents in the RSA.

Wayward Prince is a really likeable type.He clearly is a tough old fashioned chasing type who jumps well,has stamina in abundence and is as game as the day is long.Added to this he has winning course form and was a grade one winner over hurdles as a novice ,i believe we have a seriously underestimated contender on our hands in the rsa.Lieutenant Bravo mentioned that he was of the opinion that he was idling today and having watched the replay i think he is bang on the money with his summary.His current odds look generous imo and along with Wymott i think he represents the best value for the rsa at this stage,if i were Sageform i would be pretty pleased with my bets!

Think Wayward Prince had a very hard race today trying to get on top and it took a long time for him to assert superiority, at a couple of stages he looked introuble. With the likes of Time For Rupert, Jessie's Dream, Wymott and maybe Mikael D'Haguenet to take on in 5 weeks time you wouldnt be rushing to back him the RSA.

an interesting stat if i remember correctly a good percentage of r.s.a winners had had at least 4 runs in chases , worked last season with weapons amnesty ,that must count as a positive for jessies dream any others in the field with 4 or more chase runs ?

Seems that Bouggler was found to have bled in his race with Wymott, trainer blames that for the horses loss?

I saw that Abbott and it would have explained why Wymott took 10 lengths out of hime in the last furlong but I always thought that Wymott was going best.

Dont get me wrong Im still all aboard the Wymott train just thought I would put it on for anybody that had missed it.
