Had high hopes for this one last year but disappointed after a nice debut.  Certainly building himself a fair yard of animals over past 2 years is McCain...quality is steadily improving year on year.

Second best NH trainer in the country these days imo.

Followed this one last year, could be a real tool if he can learn to settle. Ruby & Mullins always seemed keen on him too.
Report 3132 December 14, 2010 5:56 PM GMT
I remember Mullins actually pulling him out of some races until Ruby was available for its debut as you say because the horse pulled quite hard and Ruby knew the horse well.

Presume Jason Maguire will have been doing most of the work with the horse at McCain's.

Graduation Chases do give horses like Sports Line a chance for some more experience before entering Handicaps.

yep needs to learn, did exactly what he did in the arkle.

Wonder if he'll go for something like The Grand Annual.

Bury him away in a big field, where theres plenty of pace on. Give him another couple of spins in small field affairs to give him experience and get his mark down to something manageable.

id say when donald got him he wasnt thinkin about getting hs handicap rating competitive! maybe they should drop him out the back..... would be easier to settle him than up front anyhow

If and when they get him to settle better, I think he might be interesting over a bit further than the minimum trip.

RDS

I'd have thought so too, since I was all over him from early on last season for the Arkle.

Unfortunately I can't see him as a Championship 2 mile chaser - maybe over further but who knows and not until he learns to settle - hence my thought about The Grand Annual.

Just hope he's not a 'twilight' horse already though.

yeah harder to place horses like him when their novice tag is lost
Report sintonian December 19, 2010 5:36 PM GMT
I'd like to see how he is on his next start. McCain did not sound to confident pre-race .. fwiw .. testing the waters
