I have been reading a lot on here that many think Cue Card will go for the Champion Hurdle. With this in mind I am considering backing a couple of fancied horses in the Supreme because if Cue Card goes the Champion route then the odds on Megastar et al will tumble.

Could then look to lay off a little and have a free bet on Cue Card in the Champion.

Does this look an attractive propostion?

Hello Jet

Cue Card has twice posted decent enough times over 2m at Cheltenham, so no reason why not.

The horse is still young though and there's no real need to be rushing things unless Tizzard has a future chasing career in mind.
Report ilikewavingatbuses December 5, 2010 5:05 PM GMT
im pretty sure theyre gonna go to the CH with him.

hes basically running in the bula to see if hes up to the test, think hes a good chance of winning that on what ive seen anyway, if he wins or goes v close(which he surely will) hes going to the champion.

why would connections want to run him against horses at the top of the CH market if they werent going to take him there? exactly, they wouldnt , so one has to assume the champion is the target!
Report JETCROWTS December 5, 2010 5:28 PM GMT
Thanks for the replies, so if you think he will go the Champion route will this have already been factored in to Megastar's price.

I want to get Megastar in the book but I don't think any novice can beat Cue Card.

i had this exact same thought earler should cue card win or run well the supreme will be blown wide open. ive backed zaidpour of wille mullins at 14s with the thinking that if he wins the rescheduled royal bond he could easily be the new supreme fav come sunday
Report Alvarado December 5, 2010 11:50 PM GMT
he,ll win neither most hyped horse ever he,ll get beaten out of sight  on saturday and he,ll be a 10-1 chance for the supreme

my prediction ZAIDPOUR fav for supreme sat night

ps if megastar wins the supreme i,ll give up gambling there is no chance in hell off garry moore winning the supreme novice hurdle hes a plumpton trainer
Report aka December 6, 2010 12:51 AM GMT
Might be a typical small field trial in the Bula on Saturday, with nothing particularly conclusive revealed about the three main runners as far as their CH chances are concerned. Menorah not the kind to win good races by wide margins, even assuming he is good enough to beat the other two. IF SC takes it on at a good clip from the front, that should help Menorah's chances of being in the mix at the end, so possibly setting up a close finish. As someone mentioned, Cue Card has already recorded some decent enough times over two miles at Cheltenham, so a sound pace in a small field shouldn't see him beaten far, if beaten he is. I wouldn't be surprised if there is not much to split the three at the end.

Now I have written that, one of them will probably come out and small the course record now and win by a country mile. It'll be testing the capacity of the new forum if we get that kind of a winner, especially if it were Cue Card.

Alvarado... i think you will find Dunguib was the most over hyped horse ever, there is nothing coming from Ireland to worry CUE CARD thats a fact...

Poor racing in Ireland on a daily basis, they always make an half decent horse look good, plodding round then when, the other donkeys get tired one stays on better.... and all of a sudden its a world beater.
Report cyclops December 6, 2010 10:02 AM GMT
In terms of Supreme betting, I can't see it likely that Cue Card will shorten in the betting for that race after Saturday. If he wins, or does enough to warrant Champion aspirations, he'll lengthen for the Supreme, while, if he's well beaten, the bubble will have burst and he would, again, probably lengthen. I think now's the time to back others if you fancy them.
Report Alvarado December 6, 2010 12:28 PM GMT
how can u say there is nothing coming from ireland its december mate and isint ZAIDPOUR trained there

you do not win the suprme novices in december there are so many horses who havent even ran yet ridiculous comment
Report Minger December 6, 2010 3:08 PM GMT
Zaidpour has not beaten anything worthwile as yet ...really like the look of the horse but can not see him beating Cue Card. The best Irish bumpers really struggled last year and I think they were a below par bunch although I did like Tavern Times.Agree with the comment that it is only December - alot of nice novices still to come and there are always one or two that will have stepped up on bumper form
Report scoop6winner. December 6, 2010 6:56 PM GMT
Move with the times Alvarado, IMO and many others, You will start to see the Champions earlier and earlier in the season i do not wear that you have to wait till the new year B4 we see one...
Report Alvarado December 7, 2010 12:25 AM GMT
im not saying that all im saying is how can you call cue card a certainty when u havent even seen the vast majority of the serious horses he will face come the supreme novice hurdle
Report ilikewavingatbuses December 7, 2010 1:11 AM GMT
cue card is the one outstanding novice that ive seen so far, you saw him blow away the bumper field in march and hes swept all before him sice, unlike dunguib, he is a VERY slick jumper and tanks along in all of his races, he has never been asked a question yet. it'll  be a tough test for him this weekend but i expect him to win. I think menorah had a hard race carrying that weight and as much as ive been so impressed with silviniacl conti, hes a great jumper too, i cant help feel zaynar didnt give his true running that day. hendersons tending to come on for it too!

look out for al ferof hacking up on friday to give an indication to cue cards chances on the sat.

cue card to win on sat and go for the champion imo- why else is he running against menorah and silvi?

cracking race to look forward to anyway.

gl with ur bets

its a cheltenham lay i'm afraid
Report Alvarado December 7, 2010 1:03 PM GMT
i just cannot have cue card at all and will lay him all day long imo he needs to improved 30lbsto get in the first 3 .terrible training he is running the risk of ruining cue card so early in his career he is only 4 whats the point
Report red and white December 7, 2010 4:37 PM GMT
What odds are you prepared to lay him at?
Report cyrusdailami December 7, 2010 5:55 PM GMT
although that is a slightly ridiculous comment that it has to improve 30lbs, i do agree that the trainer doesn't seem to know how to handle this horse. Its young, don't run it against hardened more experienced horses at such a young age. Tizzard has a great horse. He needs to take care of it more, and introduce it lightly into racing - it may have a good 7 years left in the tank.
Report Alvarado December 7, 2010 6:25 PM GMT
as big as 7-2 how is he ahead of silvianico conti in the betting is a joke.the horse is a novice so keep it against fellow novices you,ve got all the time in the world to go chasing or have crack at the champion or do both if the horse was with henderson hed look after him.it only takes 1 race to wreck a horse for life
Report red and white December 7, 2010 6:32 PM GMT
He's not done bad so far. Criticise him (and me) after the race by all means if he gets stuffed but all this armchair training beforehand is a joke. I mean, criticising Cue Card's jumping for example. If you want to see how not to jump a hurdle (ie. batter straight through it) watch Menorah at the third last in the Greatwood. If you rate horse who handed out a neck defeat of Bothy, seventh in the Fred Winter, as a 6/4 shot in this competitive race then good luck. I'd rate SC, who could be anything, higher though he's not sure to be suited by Cheltenham or coming back in trip.
Report Alvarado December 8, 2010 12:13 AM GMT
a few things you forget to mention menorah was giving bothy 27lb on ground he hated and after going round the wide outside for all of the race ohh and first time out how you can knock that perromance from menorah is ridiculous.philip hobbs trained the 2nd to cue card last time out and dunraven storm wouldnt get within 2 hurdles of menorah.
Report chief dan December 8, 2010 11:12 AM GMT
cue card hasnt had a race yet imo the horse has done everyhing u could ask for jumps well travels an quickens u cant ask for more than that, sat race looks like its going to cut up with not a guaranteed front runner which menorah deff needs a strong pace an had a very hard race lumping that weight last time an i could touch him with a barge pole,as for silvianico conti looks a more of a stayer to me an nicholls early in season said he didnt believe he was a horse for the champion hurdle so that clearly shows me hes biting at straws an just hopeing he has his first champion hurdler but i cant have it ,Cue card for me an fair play to tizzard an connections to take the big boys on got nothing to lose an these horses arent here for ever only takes a slight injury an could miss a season or two
Report red and white December 8, 2010 8:09 PM GMT
Good sense. If Nicholls didn't have Big Buck's, Silv(etc.) would surely be prepared for the stayers though I wouldn't knock the horse as he looks the part.
Hope you're still laying all day Alvarado what with Cue Card coming into favouritism and all, or were you just talking about your bed?
I just wonder if the ground will be a bit firm leading to some of the good horses being scratched this weekend. Cheltenham will be unable to water which is the only control they have of their over-zealous drainage system. I'm therefore not backing anything ante-post for Saturday.

Interesting to read your thoughts and I think on balance my mind is as clear as mud!!

I have decided to back Zaidpour and will rewatch the videos of Megastar before deciding whether to back this one.

Anyone else fancy Megastar? I know what the earlier poster means but I think he handled Numide very well and I reckon this one has more ability.
Report Minger December 9, 2010 8:26 PM GMT
Looking forward to Al Ferof tomorrow - Cue Card,Megastar  & Dare Me all hosed up over hurdles and this really should follow.
Report Alvarado December 9, 2010 11:58 PM GMT
i dont think it will be a walkover as PRINCE OF PIRATES is an extremely promising horse who will leave his bumper form behind and hes meant to be a better horse than Kid Cassidy intresting race
Report Minger December 10, 2010 9:15 AM GMT
I understand Prince of Pirates is well thought of and that he had no luck in running at the Curragh but on a line through Sheer Genius (who beat him by about 3 lengths at the Curragh) he would need to be finding about 12 lengths improvement on Al Ferof on the Champion Bumper form.Nicholls likes the horse and although he will ultimately go alot further he has a very high cruising speed - if Cue Card hadnt been running he would have been v impressive winner of the bumper in his own right.Interesting race though particularly as pre cursor to tommorrow.
Report downallstar December 10, 2010 9:34 AM GMT
Yes JETCROWTS, I have some 16s about Megastar.
1. Because i like him.
&
2. Becuase if Cue Card wins the Bula he must be odds on to go the CH route.
Report Minger December 10, 2010 4:37 PM GMT
Ifs and buts ....presume Al Ferof would have stayed on up the hill and won ....his pace was good but youve got to jump them. Inconclusive as a further clue to Cue Cards ability. Bring on the Bula.
Report red and white December 10, 2010 8:12 PM GMT
I think Prince of Pirates would have won anyway. AP always looked comfortable, the horse travelled well off the strong pace and quickened when asked to make up ground. I thought he was a very slick jumper too. Al Ferof looks a sun alliance horse to me. Glad he got up OK, it looked awful.
Report JETCROWTS December 10, 2010 9:26 PM GMT
Al Ferof seemed to have the race in the bag and has shown he gets up the hill okay, can't see why this was not a further franking of Cue Cards ability.
Report Alvarado December 11, 2010 12:51 AM GMT
who cares about form boosted your big day is tomoz wen we,ll find out just how good cue card really is
Report Minger December 11, 2010 8:44 PM GMT
Think they have to go for the Supreme now - will take all the beating on todays form particularly after having now had three races around Chelts..... although there is a cracking 2m novice hurdle on Friday at Ascot with the likes of Toubab,Owen Glendower,Kid Cassidy,Karasenir,Frascati Park,Megastar,Drill Serjeant and Iolith all entered- just need Zaidpour  to have another run and things will become alot clearer.
Report Alvarado December 12, 2010 12:04 AM GMT
there are loads of horses yet to come out still a long way off cheltenham .yes cue card sets the standard but now we know how good he is unlike so many of his rivals he will face
Report geoff m December 12, 2010 7:56 AM GMT
The performance he put up yesterday was good enough to win most Supreme Novice Hurdles.
Golden Cygnets would be an exception as that was the most impressive supreme winner you are ever likely to see.
Report red and white December 12, 2010 10:55 AM GMT
Where can you see it? Heard he was a great horse and was in the process of beating Sea Pigeon etc. as a novice when killed.
Well done to Menorah supporters. I underestimated his ability thinking he was a slugger. To be fair the turn of foot he showed yesterday surprised his trainer. I think yesterday's form will prove very strong. The only argument doubters could feasibly suggest is the way the race was run as the jockey on the pacemaker was an idiot and other than his time for the first mile the clock showed nothing special.

I don't think there's any footage of the fatal Scottish Champion.

There is footage of the Scottish Champion Hurdle, also on Youtube.

Thanks, probably don't want to watch the latter. Isn't the internet brilliant?
Report red and white December 12, 2010 1:04 PM GMT
Well, maybe not so brilliant. It's like looking through the bottom of a jam jar but you can't complain. As for Golden Cygnet I see what you mean. It's not often you see a horse sawing away on the bit coming down the hill in a top class 2 mile hurdle race at Cheltenham. The only other one that comes to mind is Alderbrook. Had to look at the other video to see how he compared to the older horses. Looked like he had the measure of Night Nurse who wasn't beaten far by the fast finishing Sea Pigeon so who knows? The last hurdle was tragic but it looked like it was over quickly. It made me wonder if something went wrong just before the hurdle eg. heart failure.
Report Augustine December 12, 2010 2:08 PM GMT
No, he actually survived the fall and was expected to pull through. He was sent to the Veterinary Unit at Edinburgh University for observation and suffered a brain haemorrhage a couple of days later as a result of which he was put down. It's on Wikipedia.
