Would have won today but for that fall. Massive beast of a horse.

Owner said before the race that he'll get a Gold Cup entry, Eric.

Just seen today re-run , travelled well and the RSA right up his street and a another run prior to Chelts will be perfect. Gold Cup horse nxt year!!!

I liked this horse before today and I like him even more today, this beast will go on to bigger things. He wasn't facing trees today and would have won, big threat choose which race he runs in.

Jumped well the whole race didnt hit any, the last he kind of tried to skip the fence with his front legs just getting over and his back end momentum caught him out as he went for his second stride on his front legs. Think the jockey needs to get him popping them instead of letting the horse decide.

TD_Gunner ... that would be unwise, as we saw Mikael needs his jumping education at novice level before mixing it with the experienced race hardened horses of a Gold Cup.

It was not a big mistake he just seemed to lose his front footing, he never hit a fence, they need to give the horse confidence at novice level to keep Mikael's confidence intact and improving all the time this season. You can ruin novices going for it too early at senior level we have seen it all before, the horses who try this rarely excel at senior level afterwards.

He looked an absolute beaut in the ring on wednesday. He's a big beast of a horse. Should go for the arkle, mullins has nothing for that race and has quel esprit for the rsa.

Also budd I've never backed a mullins horse for the wrong race. He mumbles but most of the time it's clear where a horse is best suited. RSA would be the most likely race for him, but he has bo arkle horse so....

He should do whats best to give the horse a good chance of winning,if he thinks RSA,then thats where he should go imo

With TFR looking the part he could do with a double hand!!
By:

Arkle for me looks the better option

He's not short of speed
Arkle looks a weak renewal to me at the moment and MDH would be a class apart based on hurdles form

The fact he's getting a GC entry would suggest otherwise though

Either way whichever novice event he turns up in he'll be carrying my cash

Arkle is full of gash horses, mikael would walk it. It's better to win an arkle than an rsa

Bit harsh mate, their could be a real good one or two amongst them, still early days.
And whats so special about Mik d ?? Far as i can see he won a neptune beating a load of stayers in which Mccoy road a stinker on Karabak, and he beat Cousin Vinny i believe in Ireland.
Just dont see these wonder horse type accolades i keep reading,i really dont.

He beat pandorama too. He is awesome, they know he is. He looks built for fences. He has speed to boot. I'd be shocked if he didn't win the arkle if he ran in it.

When: 17 Dec 10 15:52
why not just win the Gold Cup instead?
By:
eric_morris
When: 17 Dec 10 16:43
TheBowery ... how about he learns how to jump fences at pace first in novice company after his last run rather than kick 7 sh1ts out of his confidence by having him jumped into the ground against seasoned steeplechasers.

There's no way he will go for the Gold Cup and no point either. That will be next season after he hopefully tackles the RSA.
By:

Gold cup he needs experience and another season of chasing first. RSA

was not thinking that it would be 8/1 for a race in march at cheltenham.  to my eye it was not galloping properly and looked
like it was not at the races. may have needed the run but has a past
with problems and would be my big concern.  not for me.

rsa - all day long .
dont think they would even consider the arkle not if they are looking at the gold cup.never touched a twig the other day just knuckled on landing.an awesome beast.
By:

When: 18 Dec 10 12:25
My honest opinion, and dont mean to upset anyone, but i think he won a load of money for people in the Neptune, and people are talking as if so.
I see no form whatsoever that merits the sort of comments i keep reading about him, absolutely no evidence at all.
By:

When: 18 Dec 10 12:48
bud he hammered Pandorama & Diamond Harry over hurdles and was born to jump fences. He should still be unbeaten but for an unfortunate slip on landing when tanking along fto after a 600 day break. Mullins knows how good he is, noel meade knows how good he is. I know how good he is. You will soon know how good he is. You'll be made a believer.

Fair enough if he convices me mate, but so far i aint seen anything on a racecourse that does. His Neptune win was ok,but DH did not run much of a race(chelt factor?)and had Mccoy rode a proper race on Karabak that would have won imo,and he aint been that great since, till lto which was better.
He has had one race over fences which was ok before his unfortunate slip up,but nothing special imo.Certainly nothing i have seen that merits comments like beast, monster and wins what ever he runs in etc etc.
By:

When: 18 Dec 10 13:33
Mullins warned before the race that he was looking for a clear round of jumping. The horse has been off the track for so long, he'll improve significantly for that run. There is no reason to change my opinion, he's been the best horse in the race on every run so far.
By:

When: 18 Dec 10 13:40
Fair enough
by the way CV,have we agreed on anything yet mate??
By:

When: 18 Dec 10 13:45
He's obviously a great talent but it's way too early to say he'll 'walk' the Arkle if he goes for it. Yes, he beat Pandorama easily over hurdles, but remember in Feb 2008 a certain Cousin Vinny was cantering alongside Pandorama coming to the last before falling.
By:

When: 18 Dec 10 13:54
Jessies dream won in a time 7 seconds faster than Tranquil Sea did at fairyhouse. Miakel would have won it in a faster time but for the slip. That off a such a long break and first time over fences?
By:
CVByrne
When: 18 Dec 10 13:59
I don't think we have agreed on anything bud, but that's a good thing I think. We see things differently and that helps.
By:

When: 18 Dec 10 14:01
Also cousin vinny beside pandorama was over 2miles, mikael's win was over 2m5f. Pandorama is not a 2m hurdler.

Given Realt Dubh's proximity, I wouldn't read much into the times. Unless you think he would have stood a chance in the other race.
By:
CVByrne
When: 18 Dec 10 14:16
I think Realt Dubh is a very good horse actually. 1F1 was his chase record going into the race.
