Interesting to see if Pipe's GRANDS CRUS goes Novice Chasing after today.  Looks well in at Haydock with big rise due after likely to deter a handicap hurdling campaign.  Brush hurdles often used as a tester for chasing and the horse looks to be well suited by a trip.  Anyone know if Pipe has any plans to go chasing as no mention on his website.

Very interesting to where the Pipe team go now with this one.  No clues what-so-ever from the trainer after cruising to victory again yesterday and they might be tempted to keep him over hurdles to see how far he can go despite a big hike in mark.  Quoted as low as 50 for the RSA mind so there must be some who think he might go chasing.  One to keep an eye on.

20Nov10 Haydock   ( 24 GS )

I was pretty much just a passenger today. Tom Scudamore, jockey The plan was to go chasing after this, but after seeing that I think he could be a top-class hurdler. We thought he would win, but the soft ground suited him and I'd be worried conditions could be a bit quick for him at Cheltenham in March. He's a very nice prospect, though - a rising star.- Roger Stanley, owner

Been very impressed with the jumping of GC. Jumped beautifully at Chelt last week and again yesterday. He is really quick and slick over his obstacles.

Along with Sam Winner this is the 2nd horse I take out of my 3 days at cheltenham. The horses remembers me on Iris's Gift and time will tell if he turns out to be that good. I was surprised he was running so soon after Cheltenham but that is the Pipe way run them into the ground. I just hope they don't race the horse too much too soon. I actually thought Scu gave him a poor ride on Saturday. He made too much use of him and as a result his jumping over the last couple was a bit iffy. Looks a chaser and the RSA could be a possible but the ground may be too quick come March. The going at cheltenham was much softer than it was quoted at the Open meeting and quite a few horses struggled to get home. I was of the opinion at this meeting a horse was travelling another 2f than advertised.

They were the 2 i took from Chelt too, dee cee.....the plan was always to run at Hayd cos of the prize-money (43k), i'd imagine Chelt was just to make sure he got in the weights at Hayd. For me, GC is the biggest danger to Big Buck's, if there is a danger!

Wow - Great decision not to go chasing by the looks of it as that was mighty impressive.  Don't mind losing a few quid AP on my RSA voucher to see a new star born.  A very very credible danger to BB I'd say and we still ahve to see this horse off the bridle.  Has totally rekindled interest in the World Hurdle for me and anyone who thinks this horse is not a danger to BB knows nothing about racing.

I think Grand Crus will beat Big Bucks. I  take the view that Big Bucks has had a modest bunch in the staying hurdle division to beat for the last 2 years. All the promising sorts like Time For Rupert just go chasing. if you look at Big Bucks speed figures, he has never yet done a decent time.

Big Bucks does not travel quite as well as Grand Crus, who jumps just as well and who is the up and coming improver.

Just watched a replay of Saturday's race again and I'm convinced that if Grand Crus turns up in the same form as he did on Saturday he will beat Big Bucks.  Purely on racing style alone, if BB hits one of his usual flat spots I reckon GC will be gone and given his cruising speed it will be mighty hard for BB to make up the ground never mind try to pass GC.  Should make for a fascinating tactical race as surely connections of BB will realise this too.
