I will happily lay Forpaddy in any top class race. Any trip, any obstacles. Just doesn't put it in imo.

he puts in enough to beat most of the field,just seems to want some company,bless!!

Forpady did not look a happy horse imo during the race on Sunday. He looked marvellous in the paddock and certainly fit enough to win. During the race his jumping was generally poor and he was hanging and holding his head very awkwardly throughout the race. Granted it was his first run of the season and jumping will sharpen up but I just wonder if something is hurting him.

More likely to be an accurate summary by Quvega, imo.  The horse has never looked anything but honest to me - if you look back at his Arkle, he was never going to let KK get past him. Something might be ailing him or perhaps he's just one of those rare ones who needs exactly the right conditions to win - course/trip/ground; very frustrating for connections and supporters.

what i don't get with these instances though is this....let's say something was indeed hurting him....connections were very happy with him going into the race

now, from the minute they jumped off he had his head at an awkward angle which remained that way.....if he was hurting and it manifested itself at least in part in this way....then surely, as soon as the horse does any sort of galloping at home the same thing would happen....remember it was clear for all to see...not one of these niggly little things that is hard to put your finger on....and as i said....connections were happy with him

so if something is hurting him....it doesn't at home....and if it does....he doesn't show it!!

duffy, homework is completely different from raceday; his head carriage early on might simply have been due to restraint/the way he was being ridden

this is a contradiction though, because you think quvega was accurate...and part of that was the head carriage...but now you are saying that the head carriage isn't a manifestation of what's hurting him.

also, his head carriage was awkward for the entire race, if you watch it again it looked to me certainly late on as if geraghty was fighting against the horse to straighten him out.....in any case, if he is ailing with something, hopefully they will find it and let us all know.....i'm a fan of the horse too...but i wouldn't be reaching for the vet...i'd be reaching for the headgear.

Hi Duffy, it was the jumping and hanging more so than the head carriage that made me think he may be feeling something. As SC said early on that could well be through being restrained but you would normally expect him to straighten out as he settled and pace increased but he didn't and this is not something I have noticed in him before. Some of his jumping was skewed and deliberate and was losing ground at his fences. I think Forpady is thoroughly genuine, on the run in he was trying his heart out but couldn't peg back the winner rather than wouldn't I felt.

one of my favs too....it's ironic that it's these horses that capture our imagination often more so than the straight as a dye types...even if it costs us a few quid in the process!!!

Quvega he has one more chance in the King George I wouldn't put it past him to finish 2nd there too.

He looked very good in his novice season but he would not be the first to decide that going through the pain barrier more than once is not a good idea. 90% of horses make that decision after a really hard race.

I go through the pain barrier every race I back him.

duffy, sorry for the delayed reply - you make a fair point about my contradictory post.  I'd meant to try and convey that even though he might have a problem that, as you said, would be pretty obvious in a race, it's very diffuclt to replicate race conditions at home so there would be no clue there for connections.
