Is this some sort of joke ? 5 French qualifiers and 2 Irish ? Half the field could be French trained horses we know nothing about........and nor will the handicapper. How is this going to create interest and increase turnover ?
You couldn't make it up.

What is the point in the qualifiers anyway when all you need to do to qualify for a potential run at the festival (H'Cap depndant obviously) is run in 1 qualifier. You could finish 50l plum last but if still qualifies you to run at Cheltenham. Pointless !
Would be more beneficial under these qualifying rules to stage all the qualifiers at small provintial tracks. Give more chance of good horses running at the smaller tracks.

If the Haydock one is doubtful because of weather, expect hundreds of entries from potential runners. I do agree that the whole concept is flawed. You should need to be placed in the first 4 in a qualifier to run so eliminating the ones that have a trot round.

2012 Pertemps Final Handicap Hurdle Trends Thursday 15th March - 14:05 - Pertemps Final (Handicap Hurdle) - Listed - 3m
•Nine of the last sixteen winners won last time out. •There has only been one winning five-year-old in thirty-seven runnings. •Only one winner has ran out from the handicap since 1974. •Horses rated 150 or more have traditionally struggled in this race. •Horses aged between seven and nine have won half of the runnings in the last sixteen years. •Irish trained horses have won five of the last nineteen runnings.
There are sixteen Pertemps qualifiers for horses to gain entry into this race so it is useful to check out the results of these. Although they are all key in getting the horses to the Festival in the first place, the Cheltenham Qualifier in October was the route last year's winner Buena Vista took last year and he qualified again this year by placing in that race. Although not a qualifier, The totescoop6 Heroes Handicap Hurdle at Sandown in February is also a good pointer and has highlighted three winners in the last eleven years.
ANYone have a list of the qualifiers handy ?

I hate this race. The qualifying series is a licence for non tryers. They don't even need a run to qualify for the "final" if they are balloted out or a qualifier is abandoned after declarations.

THERE was a silver lining for some owners and trainers from the abandonment of Carlisle's Wednesday meeting.
The track was to have hosted the latest qualifier for the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival and the abandonment of the 3m1f race left all 54 entries qualified under the race's rules without having to expose their handicap marks.
Chief beneficiary was the west country powerhouse David Pipe, who just happens to be eyeing a hat-trick in the Cheltenham final after Buena Vista's back-to-back wins.
Pipe had 11 of the 54 entries, including John Smith's Grand National favourite Junior, in the qualifier won last year by Cheltenham fourth Knockara Beau, who went up for his Carlisle win.
There were other multiple entries from the likes of Jonjo O'Neill and Venetia Williams, who have trained past Pertemps Final winners, and Donald McCain.

My bet of the meeting is Sivola de Sivola - he better nt fkin run this weekend
George experienced better fortune with Module on Saturday, who won his first British start by three and three-quarter lengths and although no plans have been made for him yet, stablemate Sivola De Sivola who finished fourth behind him has a festival target in place.
The trainer added: "The highlight was Module providing owner Simon Clarke with his first ever Cheltenham winner in the class 2 handicap hurdle. No future plans have been made for him at this stage.
"Sivola De Sivola also ran well in this race, finishing a staying-on fourth. His target will be the Pertemps Final at the festival back over his preferred trip of three miles."

Does anyone have a list of which races these used to qualify?
Similarly, how many come from the French qualifiers? - it looks like it might be none which raises the question why 5 qualifies were run there.

Yes need to know how many above Sivola, baring in mind irish trained horses have no rating over here yet. He was above about approx 30 UK based trained horses.

I agree with the above, if like myself you have backed Sivola De Sivola looking at the entries you will be fortunate to get a run - 43 entries rated higher and several others on same mark - if they don't get in they have messed up badly losing over the wrong trip rather than going up for winning over a longer one.

So will sivola get a run or not? i am waiting quite eagerly for this and i have no idea one way or the other. It still seems quite solid on betfair, but any info will be appreciated. will be devastated if it doesnt get in.

In the last 2 seasons numbers 30 and 32 were the lowest to get a run, so it would be a surprise at this stage.
However, if it's expeted to be declared, that would explain the price holding up as you get your money back if it's in the final decs but doesn't get a run because of the safety limit. (It's seocndary target, the Bartlett, declares later).

There are approx 20 above him Sivola that is, could be long wait entered in Coral, also in Martin Pipe couldnt be bothered to go thru that crap race as only 191 entries! Barwell Bridge will be find imo.

With fancied runners Our Father and his number 1 Buena Vista, I wouldn't think he would be keen to pull his others out to give those lower down a chance.

Yard was held up badly by the cold snap and Webber didn't care where he went once he got a race into him. Trip too short as well, thought he ran well to a point before fitness and maybe just a lack of pace told over that trip. Will be a different proposition on the day granted good ground

Backed from 9/2 to 3s someone fancied it. I backed it at Cheltenham November meeting on back of decent run, no show then. Also entered in Coral like many others, good luck if you are on.

Paul Nicholls - I will run Sonofvic who qualified courtesy of bad weather at Carlisle. Paul Nicholls was keen on Sonofvic, 20-1 seems a decent price. PN- Son Of Vic. Aimed at this race since jumping moderately. Got a chance.
David Pipe - Buena Vista will be going for a third win. I was worried after his Kempton run but he showed a lot more spark last time and that run coincided with better ground. He has won this race off 133 and 138 and is 140 this year so it is not impossible and we will probably put a 10lbs claimer on. Whoever rides he will give them a fantastic spin. David Pipe expected Buena Vista to run well again, he had been concerned from two races ago, when he seemed to lose form, but last run was pretty good. Buena Vista still has a chance on official rating DP- Buena Vista better on good ground not impossible but getting older. Probs last festival. Didn't think he would win last year. Going well at home. Our Father would be his best chance if he runs.
Philip Hobbs - Voladaor is a proper stayer with a squeak but nothing stronger than that.
Willie Mullins - likes sweet my lord in the pertemps
Tanya Stephenson – Sonovic
Jessica Harrington - Jetson has an each way chance in the Pertemps.
PERTEMPS FINAL comments.....Paul Nicholls - I will run Sonofvic who qualified courtesy of bad weather at Carlisle. Paul Nicholls was keen on Sonofvic, 20-1 seems a decent price. PN- Son Of Vic. Aimed at this race since jumping moderately. Got a chanc
