Yes.
Report Steamship October 30, 2010 9:36 AM BST
Really fancy this horse for some big prizes this year. Did you see the documentary on the stable earlier this year?
Report Temlett October 30, 2010 9:53 AM BST
Does not stay.
Report buddeliea October 30, 2010 9:58 AM BST
He might come over, but he aint good enough imo.
Report JOCI Club October 30, 2010 10:25 AM BST
Unlikely to get ground, so I'd bet against him coming over. Ideal for those soft ground 2 1/2m to 3m chases in Ireland though.
Report Lee_SHA October 30, 2010 10:53 AM BST
I'm firmly in the 'I think Joncol will win a big prize this year' camp, and if the ground comes up in his favour, I think he's good enough to win a Gold Cup.

I thought the documentary on the Nolan yard made brilliant viewing. He came across as a genuinely good egg as well.
Report downallstar October 30, 2010 12:04 PM BST
Does not need it very soft, its been a safety issue to date. The horse is 18hands high, and has been given time to fill out that massive frame. Horses this big can do a leg very easily. Given how talented he is, no one can blame the Nolan's for keeping him at home until he has matured physically.

Pt2Pt winner as a 4yo, G1 winner over 3miles, 3rd on other two starts over 3miles, both G1's and excuses for defeat both times - stood on nail at Punchestown; they went to the front too soon in the Lexus. Screams non stayer to me Laugh
Report CVByrne October 30, 2010 12:19 PM BST
Should have run and won the punchestown gold cup. I had a packet on then he was a non runner. I have him backed for the gold cup, him or pando will win it for us. I'll be backing joncol in every run this year. To horse imo.
Report resner not lesnar October 30, 2010 3:17 PM BST
I just have the feeling he may be this seasons Notre Pere. I think Cooldine will better this year add to that Pandorama and possibly Sizing Europe amongst others and he may find things more difficult. As far as the Gold Cup is concerned you would think its unlikely he'll get his ground or be good enough
Report sageform October 30, 2010 6:46 PM BST
I am still mortified about my 70/1 a/p bet on Joncol for the Sun Alliance a few years ago when he didn't turn up for the race. History shows that he must have gone very close. I now content myself with backing him in Ireland.
Report penzance October 30, 2010 10:39 PM BST
hope he comes over, even if they run him in shorter grade 1 CHSE.
Big old fashioned jumper, think he'll be a major force this season.
Report Distant View October 30, 2010 11:37 PM BST
Regarding the staying point, I think you will find that the Gold Cup is run over in excess of 3m2f.

Wayward Lad won 3 King Georges over 3mile yet did not stay the trip.
One Man won King Georges at Sandown and Kempton. He also won a Hennessy over 3m2f at Newbury. He did not stay the Gold cup trip.

His stamina is unproven. He has looked to be coming to the end of his stamina limited in the 3 mile races that I have watched him in, although he did pass a not quite right Cooldine. His sire also has not got many stayers if any, at the distance.

It might be worth doing a little bit of thinking before ridiculing a poster's comments.
Report Distant View October 30, 2010 11:39 PM BST
Florida Pearl another prime example of a horse that did not stay the Gold Cup trip, despite having numerous successes at 3miles and even proving him over further than 3miles in the Sun Alliance Chase.
Report buddeliea October 31, 2010 9:22 AM GMT
Think cooldine is the best Irish GC contender.Did not settle at all in race this year,so would excuse that run.
All about opinions, just dont think Joncol will be good enough over 3m2f at Cheltenham.
Report DukeofMarmalade October 31, 2010 10:51 AM GMT
Distant View- There's nothing about his breeding that suggests he won't stay. Bob's Return has had horses that have stayed and occasionally excelled in excess of the Gold Cup trip don't confuse not being a top class horse with not staying. Plus with the stamina influence from the Dam side (Montelimar Dam Sire)I'd have no concern from a breeding perspective.
Report onehundredK October 31, 2010 11:16 AM GMT
you simply wont know til he tries. think nolan has done everything right with him so far and this season will tell all.
Report downallstar October 31, 2010 12:50 PM GMT
Florida Pearl stayed the GC trip well enough in 2000! Just because he didn't win doesnt mean he didn't stay!
Report buddeliea October 31, 2010 1:28 PM GMT
Think if Florida Pearl truly stayed he would have won at least 1 GC,better horse than Best Mate IMO,certainly classier anyway.
Report downallstar October 31, 2010 3:18 PM GMT
Think 2001 couldve been his year. Cry
Just because a horse gets beat doesn't mean he didn't stay.Plain
Report Swinia October 31, 2010 5:22 PM GMT
Down in love with Joncol (nap Laugh)....Marmite Nick Mordin did a brilliant piece on him... hope he doesn't go for the durkan again[:p]
Report downallstar October 31, 2010 5:37 PM GMT

Report Swinia October 31, 2010 5:45 PM GMT

Report the jigger October 31, 2010 6:34 PM GMT
I heard that he is entering him in the Fortria at Navan next Sunday.
Report Shotgun Willy October 31, 2010 6:39 PM GMT
Fortria followed by Durkan, Lexus, Hennessy then the weather decides id say
Report downallstar October 31, 2010 8:48 PM GMT
Good luck on Saturday SwiniaCool
I'll be on Sizing & TraffDevil
Report Shotgun Willy November 1, 2010 10:37 PM GMT
imagine Joncol would have 10 stone if he turned up in Newbury For the Hennessy against Kauto and co!! Never would one so big have carried so little!!!Pity it wont happen!
Report Shotgun Willy December 2, 2010 10:23 PM GMT
Not entered in the John Durkan
Report revedesivola December 3, 2010 1:51 AM GMT
id say the biggest race hes goin to win are the irish g1s, of which hes won one already. cant see him being a gold cup horse and will never get heavy ground anyhow
Report SatelliteFlight December 3, 2010 10:19 AM GMT
He won't go to Cheltenham in my opinion. Paul has already said it is not really part of the plan this season. He will go for the Lexus, Irish Hennessy and i'd say for the Punchestown Gold Cup
Report buddeliea December 3, 2010 12:16 PM GMT
probably knows he cant win
Report Meat Loaf December 3, 2010 1:39 PM GMT
Why is Nolan being so cautious with this horse? He looks like being the best of the Irish horses to me this season.
Report Bobby Dazzler December 3, 2010 2:27 PM GMT
He is a huge horse who finds co-ordination difficult when he gets tired. I suspect he is always going to be better on a flatter track, and IMHO wouldn't get the trip at Gold Cup pace.
Report revedesivola December 3, 2010 2:28 PM GMT
only goes on soft and heavy really and never going to get that in chelters for the festival prob
Report penzance December 3, 2010 3:58 PM GMT
should run him at Kempton,KG,track and trip
could suit him there.
Report Shotgun Willy January 19, 2011 10:09 PM GMT
Goes for the Irish Hennessy again
