Hi all,

Thought it would be good to have a thread for all our festival bets, we can see how we all get on and come march hopefully some of us will have some good ones!

Mine are as follows, I've been a lot more active then normal at this stage of the year, not sure if that's good or bad lol

Captain Chris - 20/1 - Arkle
Peddlers Cross - 25/1 - Champion Hurdle
French Opera - 25/1 - Champion Chase
Wayward Prince - 25/1 - RSA
Sizing Europe - 20/1 - Gold Cup

The sizing bet I have already written off! But all of them are small and speculative at this stage for obvious reasons.

Too early to write off Sizing imo.

Nah, sizing had to have beat China rock yesterday, who is rated what in the 140s putting sizing run in the 130s, meaning he needs to improve 40lb, not going to happen. I'm hopeful he goes the queen mother route, because he was a big fancy for me before they stated they were going to go over 3miles

to be fair to henry (trainer of sizing europe) he stated early last season that he thought he would be a gold cup horse. and that would be the plan for this season

yup agree trainer was up front from an early stage, although im not optimistic at this stage :(

I have added two more selections to my portfolio following Celestial Halo's fall and Dare Me's stroll to victory

Dare Me - 25/1 - Supreme Novices
Avrika Legionaire - 25/1 - Arkle

To be added to

Captain Chris - 20/1 - Arkle
Peddlers Cross - 25/1 - Champion Hurdle
French Opera - 25/1 - Champion Chase
Wayward Prince - 25/1 - RSA
Sizing Europe - 20/1 - Gold Cup

not meaning to sound rude lieutenant, but will you be having antepost bets on any novice that strolls in at 4/9 against poor opposition???
Report Lieutenant Bravado October 19, 2010 5:26 PM BST
Lol a valid question chap, and in short no I am not. I have a short list of 8 novice hurdlers I have picked out as potentially special, dare me being the first of which has run this season, I backed him at 8/11 this morning and having been satisfied with what I saw, was happy to speculate with an ante post bet.

^ Thought he would need to sharpen up his jumping tbh to be a contender for supreme

Afraid of my life on ante post punting for Cheltenham given the balls Gillespie is making of the races there but............  I am taking a punt that Arvika goes for the Arkle, and as such anything above 20's at this stage I perceive to be value
Report Joist October 20, 2010 11:48 AM BST
So the summer after hacking up in an Arkle, making him a 160ish+ animal, in the process of one summer, has declined 20+lbs? All on the basis of one run, his first of the season, at a new trip, in a race he is hardly going to be plum ripe for- I should imagine the Daily Star Chase is not the season's main aim!

So in summary, LOL
Report Joist October 20, 2010 11:51 AM BST
Personally though, I've no idea why they're stepping Sizing up in trip given how he was always cantering in the Arkle and they couldn't go fast enough for him. Would be a huge Champion Chase force imo.
Report Lieutenant Bravado October 20, 2010 2:07 PM BST
That was my point joist I feel sizing is 20lb inferior over 3 miles at least. if he ran within 10lb of his rating accounting for a below par run for his first performance of the season he should have still beat China rock. if sizing is going to be a player in the gold cup he needs to run 170+ and on the only performance we have to judge him so far, he has no chance of providing the necessary improvement. next run will hopefully confirm this and then I can tear up my ticket for the gold cup and have a proper bet on him for the queen mum
Report Brooksielad October 20, 2010 3:23 PM BST
Just to point out china rock is a much better horse than 140.
Report Lieutenant Bravado October 20, 2010 4:01 PM BST
Maybe, but he isn't gold cup standard is he
Report Brooksielad October 20, 2010 5:42 PM BST
you might be surprised he was always going to be a better chaser over longer distances and took part in good novice hurdle races, 4th behind MKD in the ballymore novice hurdle, taken a while to progress over fences but i think he's one that can improve to take part in grade ones over the distance in the next few years, will line up gold cup day im sure. Underrated horse for sure.
Report Joist October 20, 2010 6:45 PM BST
Fair enough points LB I suppose, but I still feel you're being a little too gung-ho about it, and as Brooksielad said, China Rock is better than a 140 horse.
Report Lieutenant Bravado October 20, 2010 11:08 PM BST
Well il happily be proved wrong after all I have backed him at 20/1 but I'm not optimistic
Report enjbenjy October 21, 2010 1:49 AM BST
Someone tipped me China Rock  at the festival. Was probably expected to do a bit better although he did run well.
