As a Kauto lover, it's a sad day when I think of retirement day. When it does come, I hope he bows out with 100% of the grace and loveliness which he deserves. It's well reported and even Harry has said Paul apparently loves the horse like no other, before or since, so I hope everyone will do everything right by him at the relevant time.

Wins in Ireland by a short head
No where near in King George as Long Run dominates the field. Retirement. |

Win in down royal
Romps the king george Finishes 2nd in the gold cup Retires a legend. I reckon Denman will win the Hennessy again with Ruby on board. |

Nothing will get him off the bridle till the new year IMHO

Struggles as usual on seasonal debut either winning in a poor field or in a hussle against better opposition. Nicholls then gets him home and does the real work that sets Kauto on fire for the King George each year where he normally has his course, ground and trip all ideal as can be. Victory in the King George to set his season up.

It's strange because he's a great horse but I've never ever warmed to him like I have with Denman. I won't miss him on the racecourse (am quite eager to see a new generation of stayers emerge now), but I hope like with all horses he gets the chance to enjoy a long and happy retirement in the field when the time comes.

win lose or draw next year he has been some star.he is the only horse i can ever remember getting the word "magnificient" at the end of the comments of the analysis of his race in last years King George. Usually its easily, comfortably , impressive or , the odd time, very impressive. That says it all

i happen to think well get bthwe fairytale ending. wind in ireland by 10 . wins king george by ten ( long run my aas) wins gold cup on good ground by 4 lenght . ruby parades him to rapturous applause. in reality guys hendersons horses arent good enough long run cant beat him and has no hope of staying 3 miles round chelters from wat weve seen . punchestowns cant beat kauto on all known form and struggles to c out a proper 3 miles round chelters. the irish have nowt . nicholls knows what a fiornd not in same class as denman or kauto . denman the danger but kauto better horse and nicholls knows this

age will catch up with him in the Gold Cup where a younger horse and new winner will be crowned
CV,thats already happened mate, this year. he should win in Ireland i would think, and i also think he will win the KG,As he is far better than any other horse round there, and even IF he has regressed a bit will still be good enough. should then run in GC where i feel he wont beat IC or Denman to name 2,who i feel are better horses for that race. |

age will catch up with him in the Gold Cup where a younger horse and new winner will be crowned CV,thats already happened mate, this year. Absolute nonsense mate, he made that horrendous mistake and then fell. We've no idea what would have happened had that not happened. Also Denman imo was well below his best in all 3 races this year, nowhere near the epic greatness of last years Hennessy. |
|
By:
* I mean he'll be beaten on merit by a younger horse next year, not beaten by a mistake.

this thread is full of sad morons who would be the type to laugh there heads off were he to fall,fs,grow up! he falls in the gold cup and all of a sudden everyone wants/thinks hes gonna fall again, ruby knows this horse more than anyone and will let connections know when its time to call it a day, ruby is a proper horse man and if kauto does not give him the sparkle he always gives him then thats when retirement will beckon, most of his knockers on here wouldnt know a champion if it smacked them in the face,we should appreciate what a great champion he is because we wont see another one like him in our lifetime

good comment star horse is amazing

Kauto has to win the King George to have any decent season at all. The race gives him his ideal conditions and proven preparation in every sense.

i wonder y we never get soft ground that time of year

here we go again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bridle job in IRE
Extended 5 length win in KG Get headed on the run in but fights back to win by short head in GC in the greatest GC for many a year. All over. The best horse in modern times goes out on the top. |
|
By:
great horse!remember is first chase win over hear at newbury, you could just see he was going to be a star.
think its worth the risk he still holds on to most of is ability, and 2-1 for the king george is a decent price myself,if he wins at down royal he will be evs at best. just cant see there being manny runners myself, the second fav(long run)is going to be ridden by a amateur who hardly ever rides, imperial commander dont like going r/h and might not even run and sizing europe would be a doughtful stayer. the horse only runs 3/4 races a season, and 2-1 might look a big price come boxing day! |

The thing about Kauto Star is that this is no ordinary horse. There have been countless times over his career when he has rewrote the history books and when the end of his glittering career has been foretold. He is one of the modern day greats of horseracing nobody should forget this whatever the outcome this season
|
|
By:
CV,he did get beat by a younger horse and a new winner was indeed crowned. Jumping is the name of the game and Kauto failed to do that.We have no idea why that happened, and he aint run since,so as you say we dont know what would have happened had he jumped well.
So to say its nonsense is your opinion, yes, but maybe not everyones. |

Privileged to have seen his like, especially around Kempton last Christmas. Just awesome.
Not privileged to have witnessed the load of one-eyed, rose tinted (to mix metaphors)wish-fulfilment masquerading as informed comment about the horse, nor the unedifying marketing campaigns built around him and to a lesser extent, Denman. |

FWIW I hope it doesn't go the way of the three horses that have stirred my soul in my time watching racing - One Man, Best Mate and Persian Punch.

Sorry bud, you can't edit posts on here and I misread what you'd posted. I meant he'll be beaten by a better horse in the Gold Cup next year, I thought you'd said he was already beaten by a better horse this year.
But clearly we don't know who would have been the better horse when he fell. Horses make mistakes like any other athlete, even the greatest athletes have an off day and off days and isolated mistakes should be forgiven. The day Kauto runs to the best of his ability and is beaten by a younger horse is the season he'll be retired. I've a feeling when he crosses the finish line at Cheltenham next year that will be the case and it'll be the last time we see him on a racecourse. |
|
By:
Fair enough CV,would have been interesting had he jumped well.his Kempton performance certainly suggested he was still bl00dy good last season.Lets see how he shapes up this season mate.

Yeah, really felt robbed by that mishap in the Gold Cup. I wish we could have seen what he'd have done, he was in the form of his life and I think a truly magic performance could have been on the cards. The fact we'll never know what he was physically capable of doing that day given the going is something rather depressing.
Ah well, I remember wishing he'd get the chance to avenge his 08 defeat and that 2009 performance was special in itself. The fact the horse took Ruby there rather than it being the plan. It's like he wanted to prove a point, as if "Can't Stay? Can't Stay?, I could stay the National you hacks" :D Anyway, time to accept the inevitable decline is going to happen. The horse who turns up in the Gold Cup next year won't be physically as good as the one from last year and this year. |

does anyone know why on youtube you can see most gold cups but cant see 2007 or 2009
|
|
By:
You can see the 2009 Gold Cup on Racing UK, free of charge.
Not sure why 2007 isn't about. Although I'm fairly certain you'd be able to find it to buy on that very famous online auction site. |
