what because he beat a 107 rated horse by 3l makes him a good one dont think so dont get me wrong nice start but he needs to find another 40lb to even place in a supreme

you are right alvarado, a long way to go but at least the bubble hasn't yet burst.not suited by the slow early pace today and will improve in a better race.its nice to have a flat horse with some jumping ability.

Good call, but we are going to wait for the Elite Hurdle at wincanton on 6th Nov. we have won it twice before with Crow Wood and Kings Quay and les is going to have his chance if all goes well. Aintree will come too soon after his recent exertions.

wwe were very pleased but might have been flattered to get so close to the winner who is clearly useful. He had another gear to our horse but we would have preffered a stronger pace and might do better in a big handicap or even in the Supreme where they wont be hanging about.

8/1 for the supreme must be a joke if that wins it i,ll give up racing it certaintly makes dunraven storm look exceptional the way he ran over recession proof at ascot and what does that make cue card who did the same to DS and im against cue card big time too i do not see this as one of my runners stick it in the county hurdle

Thatnks CMIYC, I had some 25/1 with the books a few weeks ago for the totesport and buttons at 200 for the supreme.I don't bother having serious bets in £100,000 races. The form with dunraven is misleading. It was a slow run race and Dunraven got a soft lead.Anyway our has improved, John Quinn's horse weren't right last summer/autumn. It would be different in a fast run handicap as I've been saying all season.Hopefully the Supreme will also be fast run. He is a very slick jumper for a novice.

Congratulations pmt, i own the 2nd today and thought we had you as they went passed me 100 yards out - a great finish! The experience of a hcp like todays will be a good edge for him at cheltenham and he will improve if he settles a bit better as well. Good luck!

bad luck dan it could have gone either way. i thought you had us beat 100 yards out and you have finished close up 2nd now in the two hardest handicaps of the season. Hope you win one of the Cheltenham handicaps to compensate.

Congratulations to you both (pmt & dan) must be a hell of a thrill to be involved in horses fighting outa finish like that in a race such as the Totesport Trophy. good luck at Cheltenham if you both go there - I will certainly pay them closer attention then I did today!

You are right Oasis that's the 7th big handicap hurdle John has won for me over the last 5 years. crow wood ; john smiths at Musselbrugh, and elite at Wincanton, kings quay john smiths at aintree, summer hurdle at Market rasen,Elite hurdle at wincanton. leslingtaylor swinton at Haydock now recession proof.he only has two horse a year to work with so there must a method!! I gave him his first horse (lien de famille) which he trained to beat an otherwise unbeaten bumper horse Call Equiname first time out with half of Yorkshire in on the gamble.he hasn't looked back since. there is no substitute for a good horse and a good brain to plan his campaign.

Just looking at his stats and he's got a 17% strike rate over jumps these past 5 years - more than useful.
I expect you'd agree PMT he doesn't get the ammunition he deserves - apart from yourself that is!!
Blythe Knight being one he excelled with - i thought he may have been a cheap buy at the HIT sales but turns out he was 90k gns.

Just to report that Recession Proof has come out of the Totesport very well. he has put on all the weight he lost in the race. he will go for the Supreme now and will improve on his form at Newbury. He stays 2 1/2 miles so he should run all the way to the line.Good to soft would suit him fine but he handles anything except firm. he is in the County hurdle and only went up 3lbs for his Totesport win but probably wouldn't run there unless a good reason turns up.

Only just seen this thread so would like to add my congrats to you PMT.
If RP only been put up 3lbs, is that not a very good reason to go for the County? Would have beaten framed horses further on better ground imho. Cannot blame you for going for Supreme however.
Anyway all the very best for the future with the horse

Glad to hear he's come out of the race well PMT. I took some 90's on him before he won the Totesport Trophy. On his rating he's got a bit to find with the favourite but sometimes in this game - you just never know what's going to happen [;)]
All the best with him, hope he runs a great race for you and comes back safe & sound

SJ going 13 NRNB,think thats just about the best price around now.Worth taking imo. This looks to me a fast improving horse, and GMOOH improved a fair amount last year from Newbury to Cheltenham, think this one is another that will.

Totesport Trophy winner Recession Proof is set to swerve the Paddy Power Imperial Cup on Saturday week and head straight to Cheltenham.
Connections had been considering a tilt at the Sandown race before the Festival, with a £75,000 bonus up for grabs from the sponsors if the winner should go on to success at any race at Cheltenham.
Trainer John Quinn said: "I think we'll bypass the Imperial Cup and run in the Supreme and if he ran well without winning, he'd probably run in the County Hurdle as well." [:o]

interesting NRNB punt for the county then. Available at 10s. Think he could perform up to scratch after what is bound to be a hotly contested Supreme??

He would run in the county only if he was likely to win it.He might fall or get impeded early on for instance in the Supreme or he might finish beaten but close up to a highly rated winner. then we might think about it as he does recover quickly from his races. If you look at his flat form he has won with only 3 days between races but that is quite different to a Supreme Novices.I would imagine that if he came 2nd to Cue Card we would keep him to novice races at Aintree and Punchestown rather than finsh him for the season by running twice at Cheltenham. remember that he is very well handicapped on the flat for something like the Chester Cup.

The very best of luck to all RP's connections. Think you have tough streetwise horse who will be favoured if he gets into scrap up the hill. Shame about losing Dougie but may i recommend Paul Carberry as suitable sub. Good Luck

Sad news for Dougie though. Could have been a very big week for him imo. Quite a few very able replacements available for your hoss though.

I have very fond memories of Bellwood Cottages, once the home of Brian Connorton and was around when the late Tony Charlton first started training there. A young spiked haired slim JJ Quinn, used to ride for me and apart from putting on some well needed pounds (Sue's cooking) what a fantastic job, in more ways than one, he's made of building it into a top class yard.
Sorry to hear Dougie was injured and hope he recovers soon.
Well done on a great day at Newbury hope you can pull off the double, you're in great hands. The very best of luck.

Thanks to everyone on here. Just got back from the course. Choc thought he should have been 4th but still not good enough.Probably needs further on that ground. Hope he is ok for Aintree or Punchestown.Desperate bad luck for Dougie who keeps the ride when he is better.

Unlucky PMT. Not a bad run though. Bit unlucky imo seemed to get shuffled back at a vital time and then was staying on again (although I haven't seen a replay maybe he was just a little short of pace). Choc's a great rider but maybe Dougie knowing the horse so well could have got him closer.
Not a little inclined to go for the County now?

yes benjy, actually choc said he took a pull after pinging a hurdle on the far side and then lived to regret it.We wont be going for the County after such a hard race. Recession Proof ran the same time as Hurricane Fly !! The first four are all going chasing so we may have some opportunities at Aintree and Punchestown.

Thanks CMIYC, he is on track for a return in February and will likely need his first run back.I think the Coral cup is more likely than the world hurdle but we gave him an entry in case it cuts up.Its possible we might run him on the polytrack instead of ascot and he wont be ready in time to defend his title in the totesport. He has only had 5 runs over hurdles and there is another handicap left in him , maybe Aintree if not the Coral.
We have a new horse called massini lotto who won a point to point in ireland last year hacking up from Hold Court who has won his two bumpers since then.he will be out in April and should win a decent bumper.

RoyalAcademy 22 Jan 12 12:15 Catch Me: Massini Lotto holds high rank on my list of unraced 4yo maiden winners from spring 2011. Although the dam has yet to throw anything of note she is an unraced half-sister to four hurdle winners. Massini Lotto beat Hold Court (Philip Fenton for John Power and now with Evan Williams) by 2L at Athlacca in May and Hold Court has won two bumpers impressively since-only starts. Massini Lotto’s handler was (and may still be?) Kieran Purcell and he rates well up there in my book. He spoke of the horse as bumper material after his victory and it's worth noting his two runs in points have been on good ground; Dr Massini's seem to be adaptable ground-wise. If you are looking for further evidence to follow this horse it might come from the 2009 winner of this race being Al Ferof!
I've replied that he's now in good hands with (that lad from Tipp) JQ

thanks cmiyc. Massini Lotto needs a fast surface and didn't like the winter heavy ground. He is rated 121 now and can probably win a small handicap before going summer chasing. He won't get into Aintree unless he goes up at least 7lbs.He would go to Punchestown if he improves sufficienctly.

Mr Q's stable is in GREAT FORM atm !!!...presume Countrywide F. has a chance (on soft) Tuesday to make the frame. He was fitter than Cinders&A. in Newcastle (from 2 previous runs) compared to C&A (first time out) and over heavy going too which doesn't suit C&A.
