As some of you may recall. Each year I participate in an annual competition against a friend. I am defending a title which goes back five years now so I don't want to relinquish the title this year! Last years advice on here proved useful and I'm going for six in a row!....

Competition rules are simple...
Each person selects 12 horses in their stable. (any grade of horse).

10 Points per win - 5 Points for second. 3 Points for third.

The only variant to the above scoring is a 30 point bonus for any Cheltenham Festival winner.

Three transfers allowed before the festival.

If you can find a horse who scores 35+-40 points a year that is good going and from experience we have both learnt not to take too many chances of 'iffy' horses as a couple of low scoring horses does you no favours.

So my question is name some horses who will rattle up a sequence and a sneak of winning at Cheltenham (although this part not as vital)as we can transfer in nearer the time!!!

Thanks Howdi.

Cue Card, Tizzard said he's going to run 3 times just before xmas!
Report kauto_kauto September 16, 2010 4:31 PM BST
Long run  looks he will be running in the paddy power the king george and ryanair.
Celestrial halo might go the same route as previous novice chasers of nicholls could pick up a few wins before festival.
Report BJG September 16, 2010 4:32 PM BST
The Real Article - Cue Card

Franklino - Captain Chris - Time for Rupert

Would be the younger ones id be lookin at anyway

Then u obviously have the likes of Big Bucks, Kauto Star, Binocular
Report Howdi September 16, 2010 6:06 PM BST
Cheers lads had my eye on those but Cue Card shout is interesting.
Report jetodd September 16, 2010 7:58 PM BST
Peddlers Cross should be on the short list.
If you can include Irish horses- then I would think about Pandorama.
Report CVByrne September 16, 2010 8:13 PM BST
You'd want irish novices then, horses like Dunguib and Quel Esprit were mopping up simple races over here last season.
Report Howdi September 16, 2010 8:35 PM BST
Yes CV and I had both Quel and Dunguib in my list last season but not sure its easy to locate novices this season. Mederemit was one I had in my mind as well as Get me Out of Here as I feel both should mop up some 2 mile chases.
Report Howdi September 16, 2010 8:36 PM BST
Pandorama was also inm y list last season but I dont think he will find it as easy in open company
Report BJG September 16, 2010 8:50 PM BST
543 could be a forgotten hoss too imo
Report CVByrne September 16, 2010 8:59 PM BST
Shhhh BJG.
Report CVByrne September 16, 2010 9:00 PM BST
Quel Esprit should mop up quote a few novice chases between 2m4f-3m over here. Goes on any ground too. Might be worth keeping this year.
Report RyanWe September 16, 2010 9:09 PM BST
No limit on how many novices you can right? I think my whole team would probably be full of them. Although obviously selecting which novices is another matter [:(]
Report abbott September 16, 2010 9:19 PM BST
One that not many will tip but I have very high hopes for is wymott. could go unbeaten till the RSA and hopefully beyond. gl
Report 3132 September 16, 2010 9:31 PM BST
Looked every inch a 3m+ chaser Abbott...maybe even further than that. Can see him mopping up few 3k races round Ayr/Hex/Newc etc.

Empire Levant for Nicholls in the Juvenile hurdles...seemed to talk it up fair bit last week.
Report Celtic Son September 16, 2010 10:10 PM BST
Can I suggest, much like last year, that you keep your gay little competition to yourself and stick it sideways up your backside. Seemingly you only win because you ask people here what to pick, so hardly makes you a winner.

Hope this helps.
Report CVByrne September 16, 2010 10:18 PM BST
That was a bit unnecessary Celtic Son
Report abbott September 17, 2010 11:05 AM BST
Agree with CV its only a bit of fun.

I've always wondered why betfair do not moderate these forums. It's probably the only forum on the internet that is unmoderated.

Anyone think Finigans Rainbow is worthy of inclusion? He is about to start embark on a chasing career and should rattle a few home.
Report Howdi September 19, 2010 9:21 PM BST
anyone think Tarla will mop up in ireland and worthy of consideration????
Report Howdi September 22, 2010 3:28 PM BST
Gents what would your thoughts be on the inclusion of the following horses for this competition:

Quel Espirit
Hidden Universe
Fionnegas
Hurricane Fly
Finnigans Rainbow
Al Feror (had picked him as one of my twelve but begiing to doubt it now)

Thoughts......
Report Desmond Orchard September 22, 2010 3:55 PM BST
Forpady will pick you up 40 points with 8 2nd placed finishes!
Oh and only a mug would leave out Washington Irving.
Report kauto_kauto September 22, 2010 4:01 PM BST
howdi, Celestrial halo is running in a novice race at exeter then paddy power meeting so you should get two wins there early on in the season before he faces anything of worth.

Tarla and Quevega will not have many runs this year from what mullins has said.
Report Howdi September 22, 2010 5:41 PM BST
Ive just read that myself Kauto although he is not my fave horsefor the sake of this competition he should pick up some easy hits - cheers pal.
Report R Carver September 22, 2010 6:12 PM BST
Big Bucks surely goes unbeaten this yr and wins at the festival surely.
Report Howdi September 22, 2010 6:21 PM BST
in as my number 1 carver any further thoughts mate?
Report R Carver September 22, 2010 6:46 PM BST
Sorry Howdi, only skim read the earlier parts of the thread! I think the front 2 in the festival bumper are very smart, Dare Me too looks above average... I suppose it might be easier with novices or G1 horses, since handicappers may be v well treated, but could easily blow their mark (and end their winning run) with 1 convincing win... I would be shocked if Arvika could not win 2 or 3 races next yr, Captain Chris, Quel Esprit, 543 (though i wonder if he is fragile), Royal Charm, i like Wishful Thinking loads and Finian's too, but no idea what happened at Cheltenham. I thought at Haydock Peddlars looked something exceptional, i would not be suprised if he could continue wining (though much harder this yr). GL with it, not sure i've been much help though!
Report logikal September 22, 2010 8:15 PM BST
Howdi Hurricane Fly would be a big no for me with his injury tendancies, though admittedly he would be a good addition if keeping sound, like someone said before I'd prefer BB.
Report Howdi September 22, 2010 8:33 PM BST
Cheers lads Im thinking alone your lines.
Report Howdi September 29, 2010 7:36 PM BST
ttt any last thoughts.
Report revedesivola September 29, 2010 9:27 PM BST
so yore looking for a horse thats good and just as importantly it must run frequently. Id say you should try using horses that compete at grade 1 level whereby their official rating tells a lot about their likelyhood of winning races (big bucks for example). Also good novice hurdlers and chases which are above average can pick up many races and are turned out to race quite regularly,(baily storm for example). The grade one horses are quite easy to find and you may try and find good second season novices for the other races or good juveniles from last season going novice chasing because obviously its very hard to pick a good horse if it hasnt even run  yet. Definately dont pick any low grade handicappers!
Report duffy September 30, 2010 12:13 AM BST
finians rainbow will be a cracking chaser at 2 -2 1/2...he travelled like the best horse for most of the way in the neptune before getting outstayed...his cruising speed will be a massive help over fences...my early season arkle horse.
Report revedesivola September 30, 2010 12:18 AM BST
i realise that if a horse is running at the wrong distance then form cant be read literally but i think that reve de sivola is better

My friend and I have now selected our horses for this years competition - amazingly we only picked a couple of each others horses. Please vote who you think has the best 'stable' - remember rules for competition. 10 Points for a win 5 for 2nd and 3 for 3rd in any national hunt race. 30 Point bonus for a festival winner:

Vote A OR B!!!!!!

Team A                         Team B

Big Bucks                      Pandorama
Cue Card                       Peddlers Cross
Medermit                       Soldatino
Get me out of here             Long Run
Binocular                      Hurricane Fly
Time for Rupert                Reve de Sivola
Al Ferof                       Hidden Universe
Big Zeb                        Arvika Legionaaire
Celestial Halo                 Paddy the plasterer
Mik de Hagunet                 Spirit River
Finigans Rainbow               What a Friend
Quel Espit                     Garde Champetre

Remember your not voting for your favourite horses but which stable can rack up most points based on above point scoring system!

A Or B..............

what a friend
even Peddlers in G1 & 2 company

They will be thrown in at deep end whilst my lot will go off very short in novice company.
Report revedesivola October 3, 2010 10:36 PM BST
i agree fully with you. All of those are really good horses but many may find a few too good. for instance what a friend in the gold cup, peddlers cross possibly in the champion hurdle. I think you not only have to think about the ability of the horse but the likelihood of the horse winning the races he is put in. Youre probablybetter off with what you have!
