Sure its meant in jest.

But how people come on here and say they have a good 'un for the Arkle in September before we have seen anything jump is beyond me.
Report buddeliea September 10, 2010 8:13 PM BST
FFT,dont go too mad till you seen him jump a fence mate.
Report toon4eva September 10, 2010 10:01 PM BST
Looked a bit out of love with the game last year to, me the way he is ridden so aggresively looked to have sickened him. Not for me.
Report Far From Trouble September 10, 2010 11:53 PM BST
I'm not going mad tbh. Just think that he has the right sort of profile tbh. Stays further than 2 miles, still pretty young, top rated hurdler

As far as class horses go i'm not overly convinced there'll be too many this year for the Arkle. Get Me Out Of Here if going chasing, Mikael D'Haguenet if over his problems, Medermit the three that spring to mind immediately along with CH

Feet are firmly on the ground at the moment
Report dananders September 11, 2010 1:58 AM BST
if you gave ruby the choice of riding either celestial halo or sang bleu in the arkle and the race was in a months time i promise you he would choose sang bleu
Report Ibrahima Sonko September 11, 2010 5:02 AM BST
If punjabi takes to fences then it is all over, a bull of a horse.
Report Bobby Dazzler September 11, 2010 10:34 AM BST
Dananders - Ruby wouldn't be on either he is excited about two from the Mullins camp.

How many times do front runners win the Arkle?
Report Mr Eboue September 11, 2010 1:02 PM BST
Spirit river wins. Hard held.

Happy

Your 2nd post spot on FFT - it's early days and you do need to see them jump but Get Me Out Of Here looked a chaser last season and already looked like he was jumping fences anyway and agree with MD'H if he's recovered could be anything.  You are right concentrating on the better class hurdlers although not sure Medermit has the guts to win this.  Can't wait for the Sunday of the Cheltenham November meeting though and we get the first ones out!

I reckon the Arkle winner could be in the stable of Mrs Jessica Harrington.
Report dananders September 14, 2010 10:54 AM BST
nicholls believes sang bleu is the best prospect hes ever had
Report Wayward Lad September 14, 2010 11:55 AM BST
Interesting comment to assign to Nicholls.
He's either got a complete freak of a horse in his stables (to be better than Kauto Star, Denman, Master Minded etc) or he's not wearing his correct spectacles, and he's got them mixed up.
I've never believed rumour when it comes to race-horses and I've still got money in my wallet.
Report Desmond Orchard September 14, 2010 12:46 PM BST
You'll get used to dananders Wayward, hyperbole masquerading as FACT is his stock-in-trade. I read that Nicholls selected Sang Bleu as his prospect that he was most looking forward to campaigning this season.
Report McK30wn September 14, 2010 1:50 PM BST
Intresting Wayward with your view from jessies stable... she has a 3 good novices from last year if i can remember, i seen one battle on bravely to beat QE at leaporstown in January but there is also the one that finished 4th in the neptune

PMSL @ dananders as per usualLaughLaughLaughLaugh

Obviously, the Arkle contenders have yet to jump a fence in public, but yes Big Bucks, SUMMIT MEETING (4th in the Neptune) was the subject of a market move from 33’s into 10’s in the week before the Festival and ran admirably considering preparation had been interrupted. The full brother of a Group 2 winner at 13f in France (and bought for just £17,000 in Oct08) there could be a huge amount of improvement in him to come.
And, I believe, Mrs Harrington knows how to prepare a 2-mile chaser for the Festival.
Report flyingbolt September 14, 2010 2:42 PM BST
Not too many flat breds win the Arkle. Contraband is the only recent one I can think of. Both Celestial Halo and Summit Meeting are flat bred.

fancy this for the arkle myself, stayed on really well in the neptune when looked to be outpaced need a horse to stay 2 miles 4 furlongs for the Arkle.could run a similar race to somersby this year getting out paced three out but then staying on.
Report McK30wn September 14, 2010 3:39 PM BST
I was thinking of Coole River aswell as he is a half brother to Dempsey who wasnt a bad sort, won his last 2 races well and seem to be put away for a novice chase campaign this year.

My friend has a horse with jessie il be sure to ask him next time I see him about the 2.

Any Captain Chris fans? From what I've seen of him jump over hurdles, I hope he is going to make in to an amazing chaser - such an explosive jumper.
Report downallstar September 14, 2010 3:45 PM BST
Captain Chris is my early fancy.
Report SidTheSexist September 14, 2010 3:50 PM BST
I think Captain Chris could make a hell of a chaser, but I'd want to see him handle a left-handed course a bit better than he did last time before i'd think about backing him for an Arkle
Report RyanWe September 14, 2010 3:54 PM BST
Yeah I hope it was just inexperience last time out at Cheltenham when he appeared to hang right quite violently. I think I heard he was going for a listed hurdle race at Kempton before going over fences.
Report starspangledbanner September 14, 2010 5:32 PM BST
i can see him going backwards over fences, rather reminds me of straw bear and franchoek
Report Far From Trouble September 14, 2010 6:38 PM BST
10/1 doesn't seem too appealing at the moment Plain

Is Mikael to be aimed at this or the RSA? 25/1 would seem too big. Let's hope for some better communication from Willie this year Plain

^^^^^Fat chance of that FTT. Celestial Halo is truly shocking value for this race. I wouldnt be tempted at 50-1.

Have Snap Tie and Walkon recovered from injury ok?
Report deadloss September 15, 2010 11:35 AM BST
Walkon is fine but I wouldnt be backing him for the Arkle yet if I were you.
Report CVByrne September 15, 2010 12:03 PM BST
I remember you saying you'd see if he's good enough for the champion before sending him chasing
Report kirkdale kid September 19, 2010 11:57 AM BST
I like Captain Chris, always going to be a chaser and didn't have a hard time over hurdles but still acheived a hurdles rating that arkle winners usually have to reach. Same trainer and owner as Menorah, the supreme novices winner, so hopefully they should have an idea where they stand ability wise!
Report 3132 September 19, 2010 12:12 PM BST
Only September and we already have 10+ live chances for the Arkle on the thread .  Grin

It looks like it will be an incredibly strong division this season.
