Contracts being signed right now apparently.

If Conner makes the third round, he would have done very very well

and should consider that a victory in itself

What a great pay day though, both played a blinder in the hype build up til this point.

What Conor is asking for is unrealistic really. It's how you get serious injury in the boxing ring. He wasn't protecting himself and was taking power punches at will, let pummelling's like that go on too long is what leads to serious damage being done in the ring.

Those 2 mugs (Bunce & Costello) are simply trying to save their reputation after jumping so heavily on the hype bandwagon.

They deserve a split of the PPV.

Was Floyd the greatest 1.49 shot in the history of 1.49 shots?
Report Whisperingdeath August 27, 2017 6:19 AM BST
Yes, you had to be weary of lumping on because of the fix aspect. Easy to get greedy and take 1.7+ but what if they were contracted to go the distance?

I took some 1.29 on Pretty Boy Floyd before the fight to cover the eventuality but it seemed clear from the go that he was just effectively rope a doping him so I then went for 1.75 inside the distance, tried for 2.04 but missed it.

All very easy after the event but you just don't know with boxing. I genuinely thought McGergor would get disqualified and there would be a rematch or rather I feared that was the script.

He was taking unprotected shots. These are shots that will do damage if you take too many.

We've seen enough issues in the ring even very recently for me to really buy the ref should have let this go on for any longer. The let me go out knocked out cold isn't realistic in a sport that has to consider its safety aspect.

Report n88uk August 27, 2017 6:20 AM BST
What fix aspect, there was never any fix aspect. Floyd was never going to give away his perfect record. And the judges and referee were not going to screw the boxer vs an MMA fighter who would never benefit their sport again.

The fix aspect was just a figment of people's imaginations.

You don't think Mayweather carried this for 10 rounds?
Report n88uk August 27, 2017 6:42 AM BST
No more than I'd expect him to, and that's not Floyd carrying it for the event in my eyes, it's Floyd's style. Floyd does the see what my opponent's got for a few rounds before timing them and taking over vs a lot of his opponents in his career.

Now in Conor's case yer you could say it was not a lot and he could have gone for it much earlier, but Floyd is just such a safety first fighter, it's not his style.

Costello and Bunce have previous for this. They are either absolutely clueless about boxing, or they are at it. If you listen to Costello's commentary on the Calzhage vs Kessler fight you will see what I mean. Or listen to the Eubank Jnr vs Saunders commentary, where Costello had to be told what the bookies odds were before he realised how the fight was panning out.

Thanks Tobe. I'm glad I didn't stay up, as it wouldn't have been worth getting a little bit more. Happy with the 1.26- 1.3 that I did get. And happy I didn't have to suffer the Radio 5Live commentary.
Report Whisperingdeath August 27, 2017 9:12 AM BST
The inside the distance money went up to 2.1, maybe more which I was really surprised about.

I have to say I was really shocked by Bunce and the other guy. Watching it on TV and listening to the Radio 5 commentary was really interesting.

As n88uk said. Floyd was clearly having a look at McGregor in the first 4 rounds ( I call it carrying the fight ). McGregor ashley looked pretty good. Mayweather did not make any dynamic movements. He plodded around like a fighter that father Time caught up with. Bunce was plugging the fact that Mayweather didn't train properly and was eating cheeseburgers. If I was purely listening on the radio I might have been inclined to put a shekel on McGregor.

The commentary was so wrong I just wondered if they were on the PPV payroll. Shirley they would not be paid by bookies to generate mug money? I see that as a stretch.

In my view the match was enough of an experiment to see something similar happen again. They are talking Paulie on St Pats in New York!

I'll give McGregor his due. I would not have him arrested for impersonating a fighter. He played his part beautifully.

It was however a con as far as I am concerned and I am glad to say I had my part in it both in the gambliing and commercial side of it. I am also glad I didn't have to pay to watch it! Well I wouldn't! The only real sour note was not knowing if there was anything untoward going to happen with the result otherwise I would have banged in 4 figures plus on this!

The commentators are just a bit clueless and scared to call it as it is. It's not that there is any impropriety, it's just that they know on which side their bread is buttered. If they were to denounce the spectacle for the farce that it was and criticise the promoters and officials that let it happen, they know they wouldn't be invited back. They also know that it's their job to make it sound exciting and go along with the narrative that everyone is having the time of their lives. This is not exactly unusual in sports and entertainments. What annoys me is that these two are praised to the heavens by their 5 Live colleagues at every opportunity, and often described as the "best in the business", which they certainly are not. Buncey is a likeable, larger than life guy with a gift for the gab. Costello is just a smooth talker with a pleasant voice. Neither are experts, they are just hacks who got lucky. They both have a lot of fans boxing in this country, but they have little or no real insight. Compared to the the late Reg Gutteridge, these guys just don't cut it for me.
