Think would be 50-50 in a rematch

I was impressed by both fighters. Ward really showed heart and his quality after the early setback and Kovalev showed fantastic discipline to stick to his game plan and he didn't gas as much as I expected. Quality fight.

gota watch round 4 again everyone gave it ward i only saw him land 1 jab
By:
I backed the draw and would have been shocked with that. Can't have Ward win at all.
By:
very good fight. had it level heading into round 12. lots of close rounds.
By:
7 of the 8 last rounds were given to Ward. If you started watching at the end of round 4 I don't think a 79-71 card would be seen as a legitimate scorecard.
By:
79-73*
By:
Kovalev landed and threw more. Landed the most effective shots and a 10-8. I dont know why people cant score a 10-10 when nothing much went n during a round. I was finding it difficult to give Ward rounds there
By:
I did NOT have Ward winning that at all. Draw at best for Ward
By:
Even the American crowd had Kovalev winning it. Paulie was speaking nonsense
By:
that was a robbery indeed
By:
I didn't stay up for it and haven't seen it yet, but from what I've read it sounds as though Kovalev has reason to feel aggrieved. Won't complain because I've won my bet, but if I'd been betting in-play I probably would've laid off at some point, and possibly lost money. So, I'm glad I didn't stay up for it. If it had gone off an hour earlier I might have watched it, sounds like it was a decent fight.

Cheers Des.No mate just been really busy with work

Kovalev really should have got it. I scored it 114-113 Kovalev, while this is close to the scorecards, I found it difficult to see where Ward won more than 6 rounds, as the rounds Kovalev won seemed pretty clear. Ward was just nicking a lot of rounds as Kovalev tired.
The scorecards seemed a little weird. No idea how they all had Ward winning Rd 10. |
By:
That's good, sj. It's good to have well-informed input from people who know what they are talking about.

Fancy anything coming up Des?

At least a rematch sounds like it will happen. Contractually obliged, and both sounded up for it.
More contests like this is exactly what boxing needs. The best fighting the best at close to their best. |
By:
Nah, haven't breally looked at much else, m8. I only bet and post when i have a really strong feeling about particular fights,so I'm quite selective, If I tried to predict bouts on a regular basis, I would probably lose.
Looking forward to Frampton rematch, though. |

Disgusting decision.
How on earth do most people have rounds 1 3 and 4 to ward wen he was shaken, defensive, heavily marked as well as badly watered eyes. In these rounds he never even tried to win just survive. From round 4 onwards the next 8 were at best even, if u didn't have kovalev winning them. What the f00k did ward do, run, spoil, hold. At one stage he ran away from kovalev all around the ring without throwing any punches yet the commentators said that was good boxing. Lol. 15 minutes earlier they were destroying hooker for exactly the same thing but for 1 thing; Hooker was electing to move. He was circling Perez, trying to get his inaccurate punches off. He was not f00king running. He was choosing to move. 2) ward was forced on the back foot throughout the fight. He ran, held, tried to head butt the guy in his back yard but still couldn't do jack. How many clean punches did he land. 10-15. Max. After the knockdown ward got realy dirty. Before the knockdown he was trying to referee the fight, put his hands down and instruct the referee on how do referee his fight. Bo locks decsion. By the way I backed ward so I'm realy happy with the verdict. Wat u realy can't understand is people saying this is a close fight. How the fu ck did u people score any of the first 4 rounds to ward. Please discuss. Paulie is usually excellent but he was drunk or on drugs |

Double standards at the best.
Only 15 mins ago hooker was running, holding, spoiling and throwing dnt hit me punches. Now how was ward better than hooker in that sence. Kovalev threw more, landed more, came forward through out. Kovalev was gona gas, 100% ward was more tired than him. Lol. Yet it's all a close fight because macklin and Pauli say so. How the fu ck did every somehow have ward up by 1 or 2 and no1 in the gb team had kovalev |
By:
Nelson, Pauline, macklin, old farts had ward up too
By:
not sure how people are saying kovalev was robbed, for me ward definitely won the fight by 1-2 rounds, kov couldnt land anything in the last 5 rounds
By:
How did ward win any if the 1st 4 rounds.
Give kovalev the 1st four rounds and it brings wards points down to 115 |
By:
So u telling me kovalev only won 1 round in next 8
By:
Give the 1st four to kovalev which he rightly won
Ward is now on 115 points after 4 rounds. So over the next 8 rounds all three judges gave ward on 7 out of 8 rounds for the 1 point deduction which brings wards tally to 114 and kovalev lost 7 out of the last 8 rounds to take his tally to 113. No judges scored any rounds even. Fu cling amazing Yet u people dnt find anything funny with that. |
By:
There is Noway ward won the 1st, 3 or the fourth.
And u just can't even any of them rounds just simply because he fighting popular ward |
By:
Rocking the nation
Mocking the world |
By:
Realy fancied ward for a shutout.
Thought he could circle him with the jab but couldn't Needed to run to go full 12 and spoil massively The dirty work from rounds 3-5 was awesome but should be allowed Kovalev huge, ward small. Almost like a Siberian tiger v mountain lion (puma) |
By:
Ward won the last 6 rounds on 2 of the 3 judges scorecards
And the other judge gave him 5 out if the last 6 |
By:
Kovalev won at least 2 of the last 6.
Ward won 2 clear rounds 5 and 7 Kovalev won 3 clear rounds 1. 3 and 4 plus a knockdown round Rounds 8, 11 were closish rounds possibly ward Rounds 10 and 12 were closish rounds possibly won by kovalev |
By:
the darleys perez fight was the funniest phix ive ever seen in boxing, did u see it?
By:
Yeh.
They just kept saying how hooker was running etch |
By:
Ward was doing exactly same if not worse
Hooker seemed like a good boxer puncher But I think he froze after round 1 For a tall fighter that was one of the worst jabs iv seen Hooker missed with about 50 jabs on the trot and landed 1 So missed 50 jabs and landed 1 during rounds 3 and 5 I think |
By:
Kovalev only landed 10 more punches than Ward according to Compubox.
How did you have Kovalev clearly winning round three - he landed four punches? I thought Round 9 was Ward's best of the fight by a country mile. Kovalev landed a few nice shots but Ward landed at will and actually schooled him for the large part in that round so I just burst out laughing when Ledderman awarded it to Kovalev. I thought the first round could have easily been a 10/10. I had Ward winning round three and then apart from easily winning round 8, shading six of the last seven rounds (Kovalev winning round 10) and Kovalev winning rounds 2, 4 and 10 including the 10-8 in round 2 which meant I had Ward shading the fight by a round even with the knockdown. You can ask ten people and they will all probably give you a different scorecard and they wouldn't all be for one person or the other so I don't understand why people thought it was fixed etc. It was a very close fight which could have gone either way and scoring points is subjective. Ward was effectively the guy stepping up to 175 pounds as he's a natural Super Middleweight so Kovalev was always more likely to be applying the pressure and I just thought the Russian was one dimensional in landing a nice heavy shot now and again whereas Ward put in the cleaner work for me, he mixed lovely body shots with jabs and one two combos whilst in the large part evading and making his opponent miss. For all that Ward's face was marked up, he won't be the one leaking blood when he goes to the toilet for the next 3 days! I thought it was a quality fight and they should definitely have a rematch. |
By:
* apart from easily winning round nine
By:
U clearly need lessons in scoring fights.
Yes I agree ward won round 9!!! Never said he didn't. Think 7th was his best Apart from that what are u |
By:
P is sing blood for 3 days??? Wtf
And you gave korelev rounds 2,4,10 only U don't think he won rounds 3 and 6 So basically u give ward 116 Do u actually know wat u gave korelev |
By:
So u basically scored the fight identical to malinagi
How on earth did ward easily win round 8 116-111 r u serious. U say ward won rounds 3,6 and 8 easily. Ur seriously not making sence Rounds 8, 9, 11 and 12 are debatable rounds If u asked 10 people .............. The other rounds are pretty clear for me If ur watching from A biased view then obviously different |
By:
ive watched the fight again, still have it the same way, ward by 1-2, kovalev couldnt land a glove on him, he shouldve gone for the kill after the knockdown
