They don't half write some tripe...its either fawning or plain dumb at times.  Today Casual Look story - who turns up with a 19yo top mare (that owes them nothing) to a sale.  The only story here was to call them out beforehand.

New flash....David Redvers had muesli for breakfast this morning.

Really hope I dont have to read another piece on Tweenhills, its getting rather boring. Please Racing Post, there are actually some other studs in the country you are allowed to write about. They don't have to be stallion studs either.

(Dont know what it is about the Tweenhills marketing / PR but it gets up my nose).

sorry for the rant
- anyone had a foal yet? I'm still waiting for my first.

It's been a coolmore advertorial for the last 6 months too.  Journos are a same sort of crowd and if you feed them a story with no effort needed by them then they say thank you very much and crack on with watching Homes under the Hammer.

Have you ever tried to read The Irish Field?
Not an opinion in it that might upset the people who pay for the big advertisements.
Group this, Group that, black type, and sales toppers.

There is very little objective comment in the racing media as a whole. Its a bit of a love in all over really.

The industry is worse off for the congratulatory and status quo guff they churn out.  I'd be embarrassed to put my name to it..Martin Stevens. Michelle Macdonald,   I look forward to the first 'Top 10 worst performing stallions over 20k' or 'How can 75% of stallions justify their fees based on sales returns' or 'UK Stallions numbers boost as breeders run scared of Brexit issues'.  A long wait

Talking of fee justification.....

How are you getting on yer ma?
And wily too.

Judging on shareholders/breeding right holders discounting, changing of terms , Dabarisiming, extensive advertising etc. I am hoping that the stallion market is reflecting the carnage at the business end of the market,

Expert Eye madness excepted of course.

Getting on ok with plans (but who knows in 2 years time!)

Best mare ~ Cracksman. fairly safe bet and she needs size
Old mare ~ Adaay. Didn’t want to spend much and thought value punt with a bit of a discount
Ok mare ~ trying to grab a foal share but havnt quite managed it yet

Anyone snagged a nice foal share? Not easy
Report potentialmillionaire January 27, 2019 9:37 AM GMT
Well done Wily, top decision making skills being shown. I wish I was half as decisive.

I had a first crop Adaay. Without doubt that one will be winning for you when you come to sell - hopefully at stakes level too!

I am not sure what to make of Cracksman so luckily the decision is taken out of my hands because I have nothing suitable for him. Obviously if all goes well and he cranks out good looking stock then the fee is at a good level.

I've an Adaay so we can all cross fingers there.  We've decided to batten down hatches so I'm probably undercovering with Tasleet (although I think its a solid choice).  I've a Time Test share to use.  I've convinced myself away from Jungle Cat who's a good match for one.  I think Brazen Beau could be a dark horse so it's him, Havana Grey, Twilight Son.  Plans are liquid based on what I have on the ground by March.   With the dozen or so 40k plus stallions producing 300+ foal sales horses to compete for less than that 80k+ sales I'm 'happy' to risk less to make less at the moment.  I'm probably wrong by I'll sleep better.

Well we're all spinning around the same theories and the same questions.
I actually outsold what I had in a way, in 2018 so I can take forward positives but I didn't really make much money either so I can remain fairly negative too.
Which to choose.
Never before has the go for broke/keep it cheap conundrum seemed harder to solve.
My nice Adaay was preceded by a nice Brazen Beau so he is up my sleeve too if necessary. I would like to get a proper handle on how well he is doing down under because what we are being told is encouraging.
I haven't seen Tasleet and I don't think I've much for him as he's a bit diddy and that doesn't suit me really but I will get to see him and I like him in principle.
Will probably do Havana Grey and maybe Gold too and my left field spot is currently being filled by Poets Word in the hope he can do a Mukhadram in the short term and he really suits one mare in the long term.
I like Sioux Nation and US Navy Flag even though I thought them overpriced initially but if they don't fit when the time comes it will be a long way to fall for sure.

There’s a national disease situation and the Racing Post could interview literally anyone for their opinion...

Naturally they choose to turn to the amazing Tweenhills. Zzzzzzzzz

Congratulations RP you are now more predictable than the Daily Mail

Tweenhills turn the death of Lady Lonsdale into a marketing exercise in their latest tweet / website news. Yawn
Report yer ma February 11, 2019 5:49 PM GMT
And the RP helped hysteria means I have to booster my mares to send them to studs that are far far more likely to have nasty bugs to give to MY mare!
Report yer ma February 13, 2019 10:40 AM GMT
And now I'm getting letters telling me I need to send each mare along with a twitch, chifney etc.  What a load of bullsht.  How about the stallion men wash themselves, change their clothes, disinfect the shed and wash the stallion down between every cover.  And the box the mare will stand in to wait.  The disconnect between the people dealing with horses and the people administrating horse activites is virtually total.

the "breeding on a budget" supplement is a decent read, if only to remind you what's out there (a lot!!)

Peter Ebdon = commercial suicide

70% winners to runners Shocked
Report Wilycayote February 16, 2019 1:39 PM GMT
if that's true then its very good.

would be genuinely interested to hear of any commercial successes though. never heard of any
Report workrider February 17, 2019 7:44 PM GMT
I have to say I found that Budget article worth reading, Ebdon a little off one would think, I mean 70% of anything is incredible never mind 70% winners...

I don't know much about jumping but I hear Lee Mottershead has something against Presenting Percy, so I hope he bolts up!

Mottershead is a complete ****. loves taking the ridiculous moral high ground whatever the consequence for our sport.
