For those of you interested-a busy year coming up.  First our maiden mares.

Marseille (Excelebration x Marlinka) and half sister to MARSHA and JUDICIAL will be covered by MASTERCRAFTSMAN
Madison (Mastercraftsman x Kalinova) Unraced, will visit ZOFFANY
Harmonica (Pivotal x Affinity) listed placed, will visit TAMAYUZ
Tribute Act (Exceed and Excel x Sister Act) Group placed half sister to RIBBONS, out of a full sister to SOVIET SONG will visit LOPE de VEGA

Now the rest

Marlinka (Marju x Baralinka) dam of MARSHA/JUDICIAL and in foal to FRANKEL will visit SHOWCASING
Affinity (Sadler's Wells x Kalinka) dam of ZEST and HARMONICA will visit FARHH
Kind of Hush (Marju x Affinity) in foal to OASIS DREAM will visit SEA THE MOON
Zest (Duke of Marmalade x Affinity) in foal to OASIS DREAM, will visit CAMELOT
Roubles (Speightstown x Soviet Song) slipped to DAWN APPROACH will visit MAYSON (TBC)

Some nice coverings, and frankly some a bit MEH! I'm a bit underwhelmed by MARLINKA visiting SHOWCASING to be honest.  He's a very able stallion, but for the money a trip back to ACCLAMATION was a bit of a no brainer for me.  Or a visit to the SCAT DADDY line would seem to be good on paper at least.  She's already produced two group winners, and is out flagship mare after all.  I wasn't expecting FRANKEL again, but.....

Like that we are using CAMELOT-I think he has a massive future and will see his fee rise.
Excited about the LOPE de VEGA x TRIBUTE ACT progeny too.

Would be happy to hear your thoughts as always. Happy New Year all.

Based on my data I would cover old ground for the flagship mare but with Iffraaj, or upgrade the Excelebration to an Exceed and Excel.
Report Big Black Cat January 3, 2019 10:20 PM GMT
proxygene I cant see why they are not going back to Acclimation with Marlinka.  Before they upgraded to Frankel last year, that was the plan.  A full sibling to a record breaking mare at the sales can't be a bad thing.  And 15 grand cheaper cover too!

I'll be surprised if some of these don't get sold in foal-especially Marseille.

Farhh-Affinity could be interesting. Not at 2yo probably so a long time to wait but despite being by S Wells, Affinity progeny seem best at around 8-10 furlongs. If this is a nice foal, it could get a bit farther.
Report Big Black Cat January 10, 2019 7:49 PM GMT
Thanks for the figure proxygene-interesting-the club already has a 3yo filly full sister to Judicial.

Farhh is an interesting stallion because apparently he only performs when he feels like it, I'm told.  Don't know if there's any truth in that though!
Report sageform January 11, 2019 2:10 PM GMT
Farhh obviously knows that if he only produces 30 foals a year they might have rarity valueHappy
Report cacique January 13, 2019 9:10 PM GMT
blackcat do you guys get any choice where they go?
Report Big Black Cat January 18, 2019 9:27 PM GMT
No cacique we don't.  Which is just as well cos they'd want us to pay for the nominations then!

One that I feel they should consider in the future is

Ulysses x Harmonica

Galileo blood crosses well with Pivotal mares, and prior to this year 14 sons of Galileo have sired G1 winners themselves

Ulysses has fantastic lines himself. and his performances on the track back up his pedigree. First foals are due this year, and his first season had a full book of mares. At £17,500 he looks value to me , in a couple of years time that may look very cheap indeed. Any fillies from such a mating would have Brood potential on paper straight away , before ever setting foot on the track.

Thanks The Unforgiven.

I actually think that Decorated Knight is absolutely outstanding value for an animal with one of the best distaff lines in the business.  Given that Elite would consider themselves 'owner/breeders' then precocity would not be paramount for them.
Report Big Black Cat April 27, 2019 3:45 PM BST
Decorated Knight also a son of Galileo of course-was what I meant to say.

BREEDING UPDATE

SISTINE was covered by DANDY MAN last week.
Report The Unforgiven April 28, 2019 7:52 PM BST
Decorated Knight appeared to improve with age, he was tough and genuine and as you point out has very nice female lines - on the track Ulysses had his measure but it will be very interesting to see how they both fare as sires. If only I had a few hundred £m myself and a few nicely bred fillies, what a hobby I would have.

Hermosa - Galileo from a Pivotal mare wins the 1000 Guineas yesterday,, hopefully Galileo can pass on plenty to his sons Ulysses & Decorated Knight
Report sageform May 8, 2019 3:20 PM BST
Dandy Man continues to impress as well. Now a clear third in my 2019 table of GB flat sires.
