I may have missed it (apologies if being stupid!) but it looks like Cracksman's next run (in either the Arc or Champion Stakes) will be his last before being retired - presumably to stud. Anyone know where he will stand?

Lightning Spear £8500 I hear Truehonch which seems a bit high to me but he has appeal. So far we have him, Tasleet Massaat and Saxon Warrior I think as new sires.Darley retirees could be interesting this time, and personally I hope Blue Point is among them as his pedigree is a change from the usual sprinter. Idon't know where Cracksman will end up but the gloss has gone for him this year and he needs a wet Ascot. No doubt there will be plenty more in the pipeline...

Yes 2.5k too much. Last year I suggested him at £3k. He will be got for that in his 3/4th season. 90% of his yearlings will lose money at 8.5k. He will be lucky to get 30 mares in his second season.

Havana Grey to Whitsbury and Rajasinghe to National Stud. Don't laugh, but it wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world to see Cracksman follow the latter there.

Phew, I can stop refreshing the RP Bloodstock page Johnny-M. Your definition of imminent and mine differed a little, though I'd guessed the Whitsbury one right having trawled the statistics. They'd have hoped for a bit better run on Sunday of course. Any more in the pipeline that you can hint to?

You were right Johnny. Lancaster Bomber to INS. Bit of a strange one for me. Does anyone get excited about a Tatts Gold cup winner? Also his half bro was a better racehorse and has already been canned commercially.

All in all, the potential stallions for 2019 seem a tad underwhelming. Cracksman would be the only one I would look twice at. Masar hasn't been seen since the Derby and the other classic winners of 2018 are inconsistent. There is no sprinter that can truly be called a champion, unless Harry Angel comes sensationally back next week.

Well. a proper good one in Poet's Word to a stud that prices them very fairly too. Looking forward to the fees for him and Tasleet. With you Wily on the NS recruits but no doubt others will see opportunities in them. Occurs to me that after Lancaster Bomber there are a number of other second division Ballydoyle inmates looking for studs away from Coolmore - apart from a plethora of War Fronts wonder if Gustav Klimt might be among them, maybe Washington DC too. Some studs might need some new stallions to keep the interest going - is Highclere happily pinning everything on Cable Bay or is another heading there? Lanwades has unfortunate vacancies and I always hope for a pedigree surprise from Miss Rausing. Anyone know anything more?

They will be desperate for a Cracksman win at Ascot, to get him off to stud with another group 1. You can see the tsglines now.

Perhaps BBC, and whatever the outcome of the match if it happens I'll not be affording either of them, but I'd far rather send a mare to Roaring Lion than to Cracksman. By my assessment he has the better temperament, was earlier maturing, has more speed, seems more durable and more versatile.

I agree Formtwist. A very revealing interview with the trainer on RPTV, where he says he'd use blinkers on Cracksman at Ascot to help him concentrate, as he's interested in the fillies when he walks around the yard. As he was at RA.
I remember James Fanshawe describing SOVIET DREAM (OASIS DREAM-SOVIET SONG) as a horse who wanted to be a stallion without having to run on the racecourse. Interesting that Roaring Lion has the QEII option as well. I wonder if a deal is in the offing??? Cos if I was RL's owners I'd be running in the Champion unless it came up like a bog! |

Now Wily, a trip to Specsavers is clearly needed as Chris Richardson describes him as "a gorgeous-looking individual with a quality outlook". I haven't seen him myself yet, and his yearling price might possibly support your comment but would you send a mare to a stallion with that name however stunning he is? I couldn't.
