For decades,without really thinking about it,I fell for the old myth that all thoroughbreds are descended from just 3 Arabian stallions imported into GB in the early 18th century. This is true only if you are talking purely about SIRELINES ( although the signs are that will soon only be one ). A few years ago I discovered Thoroughbred Pedigree Query and found that any thoroughbred will be descended through a female line from at least one other Arab stallion. Has anybody ever counted up how many of these there are ?

The trouble with the old days was a horse could have several names.
It could be Lord Nelson's Firecracker, then Jones's Firecracker, then Sir Thornton's Fire Cracker, then Mr Watson's Kingfisher. The above are a list of horses without sires. I assume the sire was untraceable e.g. imported. |

The + at the end of a name is my surrender sign. I couldn't trace back beyond that.
