Does an appearance at a sale qualify it for some sales races? I remember back in the early days of sales races that an Oppenheimer colt trained by Roger Charlton won a big pot (subsequently disappointing for Godolphin). It had been led out unsold at Tatts and it was fairly obvious that it only went to the sale to get qualified. I particularly remember because it won the race on debut against some fairly ordinary winners with inferior pedigrees and I lumped on at double figure odds.
