roadie, the Claxon to whom you refer is a granddaughter of the mare Galaxie Dust who is also the third dam (great grandmother) of Zoffany. I don't know where you have seen her referred to in connection to Zoffany, but she is quite well know and has had a useful career on the track and as a broodmare so I suppose she is being used as something to trigger people's consciousness.
Usually the 'so and so' family is used as a reference to where it sort of all began. Therefore if your Granny was the mother or grandmother of a bunch of Nobel prizewinners/Olympic athletes (you may delete which doesn't refer to you!) and not much talent had appeared prior to her, then your family would be referred to as the Granny Runner family while it was still potent.
In this case the family is more correctly referred to as the Galaxie Dust family as she was very modestly bred, albeit by a top sire Blushing Groom, and from her has come a recent rich vein of form, Zoffany being the most current.
Incidentally it is a family developed by Peter Goulandris of Hesmonds Stud who operated quite unconventionally at times with less than obvious mares, but more than average success. He is either Uncle or cousin, I forget which, of Lady O'Reilly in Ireland. another successful 'family"!
Hope that's a help but please forgive me if I was barking up the wrong tree and have been impossibly patronising (I know, again!)

thanks for that, ive seen claxon on the pedigree page now, zoffany is considered to be from one of the good families then, so was a decent punt for breeders. looks like there could be some group 1 winners from that first crop next year.
